Ewing News By Mm. Harold Harr in Recent weekend guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. James Rotherham were their son and daughter, Ronald ami Beverly, both of Lincoln. The Misses Kay Rotherham and Peggy Sullivan, both students of St. Mary's Acade my at O’Neill, who were in Lin coln on business returned to Ewing with Ron and Beverly and remain ed for the weekend at the Rother ham home. The heavy snowstorm of April first did not prevent the nominat ing committee of the Women's Society of Christian Service from holding their meeting as scheduled at the home of Mrs. L. A. Hobbs. Others present were Mrs. Albert Larsen, Mrs. Willis Rockey ami Miss Hazel Ruby. Mrs. W. W Elliott, who attend ed the annual meeting of the Wo men’s Society of Christian Service held at Fremont last week, reports that is was necessary to do much detouring due to flood waters, on her return to Ewing on April first The heavy snowfall accompanied by dense fog, as they neared home, made driving hazardous. Guests at the home of Mr and Mrs. Ben Larsen this wek are his brother and wife of Wood, S. D. They plan on going to Rochester, Minn-, as soon as highways are opened to travel after the flood waters recede. Melvin Prudon, U. S. Army, who has hwen home on a thirty day leave left Saturday to go to Oak land, Calif., where he will soon be sent to Korea for service. His brother, Donald and Dick Wright took him to Grand Island to con tinue on his way by train. Mrs. Edna Lofquest transacted business in Neligh on Wednesday, also called at. the home of her daughter, Mrs. Reuben Meyers and family there and her aunt, Mrs. -71 .... —■ ■1 I i . The teachers and officers of the Ewing Methodist church and the I United Presbyterian church met I Saturday evening at the United Presbyterian annex to make plans for the vacation Bible school. Due to the dates for youth sum mer camps for both churches and conference week for the Methodist church, June 20th was set as the day for classes. Mrs Mabel Boies celebrated her 81st birthday anniversary on Sun day, April 3. On Saturday after noon Mrs. Minnie Larson enter tained at her home a group of neighbors honoring Mrs. Boies, for an informal coffee hour. On Sunday she was the honored guest at a family dinner at the home of her son and daughter-in-law. Mr. and Mrs James Boies in north Ewing. During the afternoon other rela tives and friends called to offer their congratulations. Mrs, Boies, who lives in southeast Ewing, makes daily trips down town after her mail and it is not unusual for her to ‘‘run” errands for her neighbors. She attends the Ewing Methodist church regularly each Sunday for the worship hour and remains for the Sunday school session where she is a member of the adult Bible class She is a member of the Women’s Society ol Christian Service also tJie Ameri | can Legion Auxiliary and seldom misses attending the monthly ses sions of each. The Methodist Youth Fellowship had as their guest speaker Monday evening, Ezekiel Roberts, a mis sionary from India. The meeting opened with a devotional period. I During Mr. Roberts stay in Ewing he was the guest of Rev. and Mrs. W'. W. Elliott. Mrs. Minnie Larson accompani ed her daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Cressel Anderson and family of Bloomfield, to Butte on Sunday where they visited relatives and friends. The seniors of tne r.wing mgn school presented their class play “Me and My Shadow” a three-act comedy Thursday evening, March 31, under the direction of Mrs. Amber Sehlotman. The crowd was not as large as usual due to the bad road conditions in the country and the intermittent showers which began early in the evening. In the cast were: Jerry Jefferies, Charlotte Wright, Coralee Schmiser, Catherine Woslager, Bill Bauer, Evelyn Scholl, Lois Kaczor, Gary Eacker and Tim Koenig. The evening’s entertainment opened with a band concert under the direction of Supt. G. 1>. Ryan. Between acts the triple trio: Patty Hobbs, Kay Bergstrom, Bonnie Kaczor. Linda l .arson, Lois Kac 1 zor and Ardis Parks sang, “It’s Me”; solo, “Green Cathedral” by Kay Bergstrom; song, "Every time I Feel the Spirit" by the mixed dauble: Lois Kaczor, Linda [.arson, Ardis Parks. Kay Bergstrom. Ron Cloyd, Jerry Jefferies, Douglas Shrader and Bill Bauer: song, “Great is Thy Love” by sextet: Coralee Schmiser, Betty Wright, Kay Bergstrom. Linda I .arson, Bon nie Kaczor, Lois Kaczor, Ardis Parks and Patty Hobbs. Pianists were Sharon Johnston and Mrs. Wilbur Spangler. Student directors were Tom Koenig and James Mil ler. Mrs. Sehlotman was presented a gift by the class. Mr. and Mrs. Gene Zimmerman were guests on Sunday at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Zimmerman at Battle Creek. Other members of the family pre sent were Mr. and Mrs. Carl Zim merman and family of Sioux City, la. Mrs. Catherine Indra, Home Ex tension agent, was in Ewing Mon day afternoon to give a demonstra tion lesson on "Color In The Home ’ to leaders for the home extension clubs in the Ewing area. The meet ing was held at the home of Mrs. Gene Zimmerman. Mr. and Mrs. Willis Rockey left Sunday for Omaha where they will 1 spend a few days on business. Robert, I-eonard and Mary Miller of Omaha were unable to visit their mother over I the weekend because of the road conditions. Mrs Henry Reimer spent the weekend with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Larson in Ewing. Ralph Tomjack celebrated his birthday anniversary on Saturday. Nature played an April fool’s trick 09i us Thursday night and Friday. We received rain followed by 7 or 8 inches of wet snow, mak ing the roads impassible. Boats were in evidence on Sun day afternoon, Mar. 27 on the main street in Inman. Only 2 days of school were held becasue of road and weather con ' ditions in that community. Earl Schindler was a Saturday visitor at the Ralph Tomjaek home. The mail carriers were unable to make their routes on Saturday. ! Travel was impossible except by tractor or horseback. They are as follows: general science, Bob Pribil ranked 26 out of 102 entering contest; American history. Keith Kivett ranked 63 out of 105 entered; world history*. Sharon Michaelis ranked 79 out of 101 entered; English usage. Gary Fick ranked 31 out of 124 entered. In orginal public speaking, Gary Fick ranked excellent, Ruth Ann Hansen, beginning typing, rankl'd 36 out of 119 entered . In geometry Roger Thompkins ranked 27 out of 90 that entered the contest.
