Grimes presented the lesson on
•‘Your Christmas Tree." Mrs.
Shirley Svatoa told of the origin
of Christmas. The program m
charge of Mrs. Bell and Shirley
Svatos consisted of the song
"Jingle Bells," by several children;
a Christmas recitation by Patsy
Grimes, Com Milter and Diane
Miller and a dialogue. "What is
My Line," presented by a group
of ladies. Tins was followed by
some guessing games, Christmas
carols and an exchange of gifts.
Names of mystery sisters were
draw'n for another year. Lunch
was served by the hostess.
Mr and Mrs. James Grimes
left by tram from Grand Island
Sunday night, Dec. 20 for Mount
Hose. (i»io., to spend Christmas
with Mrs. Grimes’ daughter and
son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Hi Con
ley and sons, Hobble and Stevie.
After visiting at Mount Hose the
Grimes’ plan to go on to California
to visit her son and daughter-in
law, Mr. and Mrs. Edward Grimes
and family,

Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Adams
departed Saturday, Dec. 19 for
Phoenix, Ariz., to spend the
Christmas holiday with their son
and daughter-in-law, Mr and Mrs.

Friday, Dec. 18 from Ft. Carson,
Colo , for a two week visit with
his parents, Mr. and Mrs. C. E.
Wintermote and sons and brother

state university, Lincoln; Connie
Werner, student at Lincoln School
of Commerce and Carol Tracy
came Friday night, Dec. 18 to
spend the holidays with their

report that Robert Gartner, a
patient at St. Joseph's hospital in
Sioux City will l>e permitted to

Tlie Woman's Society of Christ
ian Service met Thursday after
noon, December 17th at the Metho
dist church with 23 members pre
sent. Mrs. E. R. Carpenter led the
devotionals. Mrs. James Grimes
presented the first part of the new
study "The Way in Africa" by
George Way land Carpenter. She
discussed the economic, political,
and religious aspects of the
country. Mrs. Louis Neilson told
about David Livingstone and Mrs.
John Wintermote read an article
about Dr. Albert Switzer.
At a short business meeting con
ducted by the president, Mrs. T.
E. Newhouse, it was voted to
give $34.45 to the Omaha City Mis
sion. The president told the group
alxiut Miss Doyle, a missionary,
who is to be in the North East
District in February. Mrs. Ray
mond Shoemaker reported that
she bad sent 100 pounds of used
clothing. The meeting closed with
a praper.
Lunch was served by the hos
tesses, Mrs. Steve Shavlik and
Mrs. Edwin Hubbard.
The Keller club met Wednes
day. Dec. 16 at the home of Mrs
E A Farrier with Mrs Ray Hoff

ber* and one guest were present.
Roll was answered by telling of a
Christmas gift most wanted. Door
prizes went to Mrs. Raymond
Beed, Mrs. Howard Heed ; Mrs, j
Charles Coolidge and Mrs Alfred i
Mass. These prizes having ac- j
cumulated from times members
were not present.
Mrs. Ray Beed and Mrs. Al
fred Mass were appointed to make
out the 1960 year book. The pro
gram consisted of several game*
planned by Mrs. Charles Coolidge
and Mrs. Ed Eisenhauer with
Shirley Svatos in charge. Mrs. E.
A Earner played a piano solo.
Following an exchange of gifts
lunch was served by the hostess.
The next meeting is January' 6 at
the home of Mrs. Louis Harley.
S/Sgt. and Mrs. Fred Cearns
and four children of Columbus,
Miss . are spending Christmas with
his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Bob
Ceams. Sgt Cearns will return
after Christmas to his station at
Columbus. Miss. His family will
remain for about four months with
his parents,

Monday, Dec. 21 to visit their
grandmother, Mrs Ina Turner and

hospital in Omaha came Monday,
Dec. 21 to spend the Christmas

A Christmas cantata was pre
sented by the senior choir at the
Memorial Baptist church Sunday
evening, Dec. 20.
A film ‘‘The Greatest Gift'' was
shown at the Methodist church
Sunday evening, Dec. 20.
The Methodist Youth Fellowship
held a bake stile at the Harley
Hardware Saturday, Dec. 19. The
proceeds amounted to about $20.
Santa Claus made his annual trip
to town Saturday afternoon, Dec.
19 and handed out treats to all
the children. The Chambers volun
teer fire department show at 2:00
in the afternoon and another at
7:30 in the evening at the Golden
Gate Theatre.
Gary and Gail Holcomb, stu
dents at the State university at
Lincoln are spending their Christ
mas vacation with their parents,
Mr. and Mrs LeRoy Holcomb.
Darlene Harle, student at Con
cordia college at Seward came
Friday, Dec. 18 to spend until
