Dennis’ essay will Ik* eligible to compete with the other towns in Holt county for the 125.00 tiond. The County WCTU institute was held last Tuesday at the home of Mrs. Merwyn French, sr. Mrs. D. N. Lay of O’Neill was in charge of the program. Mrs. Caroline Bates gave the devotions at both the morning and afternoon ses sions. Mrs Kdgar Stauffer gave plans for Christianship and legi slation; Mrs Nora Summers of O'Neill presented the plans for temprance and mission; Mrs. Hazel Boatman, O’Neill gave plans for temperance education and Church schools and visual edu cation. Mrs. Stauffer reported on the National WCTU convent; n which she attended at San An tonio, Tex. WCTU memljcrs were present from Kwing, O'Neill and Page units. The morning and af ternoon sessions were broken by a covered dish dinner at noon. Band mothers met on Monday af ternoon to make plans to sell pie, coffee and kooi-aid after the senior play on Friday night. Kach member is to bring a pie. The members of the King's Daughters society met at the home of Mrs. Robert Van Horn Tuesday evening completing plans for the bazaar. Mr. and Mrs. Edd Stewart and Mickie were Nov 3 evening visi tors at the H. O. Hull's in Orchard. Mrs. Harold Freemeyer re ceived a badly sprained ankle while chasing cattle when she stepped in a hole and fell. X-Rays showed no broken bones. Mr. and Mrs. Earl Park brought their son. Loren home on Tuesday to recuperate from his car ac cident. Loren received a badly smashed leg. Mrs. Hester Edminstein re ceived word that her daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Jess Bo lin of Lincoln were in a car ac cident. Mrs. Bolin required six stitches in her head and though Mr. Bolin had no hones broken he seemed to be in great pain. HOA club met Nov. 3 with Mrs. L. F. Knudsen the afternoon was spent in the ladies doing their own fancy work. Two members, Mrs. Homer Rutherford and Mrs. Harry Van Horn were absent. Mrs. Paul Hartington and Mis. Harry Lamport, jr. were guests. The 4 G’s met on Friday with Mrs. Ethel Park. The afternoon was spent in playing cards with Mrs. Clarence Stevens winning high score, Mrs. Soren Sorensen, sr, low and Mrs. Friela Asher traveling award. Two of tne Asher’ children, Churc and lairene, stayed with the Calvin Harveys while Linda and Vonda stayed with their grandmother, Mrs. Frieda Asher. Mrs. Prudence Albright drove Mr. and Mrs. Curtiss Roberts to Sioux City to bring the little Curtiss boy home. He had been hospitalized for the past two weeks. Commercial club met on the evening of Nov. 3 with 16 mem befrs present. There were election of officiers with Melvin Smith being reelected as president and Clarence Stevens and Mrs. Gerald Lamason being reelected as sec 1 rotary and treasurer. Mrs. Anton Nissen, Mrs. Milo Landreth and Mrs. Melvin Smith served. Mrs. Ethel ParK left Saturday morning to spend a few weeks with her son and his family, Mr. and Mrs. Dale Asher of Logan la. Mrs. Asher underwent major surg ery last week and Mrs. Park will stay until Mrs. Asher is able to do her own work . Tuesday night, Nov. 3 the soph more class and their sponsers, Mr. and Mrs. Ron Park had a wiener roast at the A. H. Crumly home. They played games and there was some dancing. Ronnie Asher I spent the night with Alvin Crumly. Mr. and Mrs. Ray Harmon and family, Mr. and Mrs. Keith Ken ! nedy were Sunday night supper guests of Mr. and Mrs. Duane Sukup. The Chases then went on to Plainview to visit with Mr. and Mrs. Arthur John son and other relatives. Willis Waring and Marlin Frahm left Wednesday for Nucla, Colo., where they will seek employment. Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Rablrass of Neligh where here Friday night to see their riece, Marlene Frahm in the senior play. Mr. and Mrs. Merlin Meyers and family of Ewing and Mr. and Mrs. Sid Frahm of O'Neill were Sunday supper guests of the Floyd Frahms. Aviation electronic technician 3rd class Larry Roach, son of Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Roach arrived home Saturday night for a 30 day leave. Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Roach and LaiTy, Joan, Leeann and Lavonne Cronk spent Sunday at Osmond visiting with Mrs. Roach’s mother and sister, Mrs. Grosse Rhode and Catharine. The American Legion Auxiliary met on Monday night with 26 members and one guest, Brenda Mudkrff present. A note was read from Diane Cork, who is a student nurse in Sioux City on the nurses scholarship sponsored by the auxi liary. It was voted to send 10 pair of knitted bed slippers to “Yanks Who Gave” and also send $5 to Norfolk Opportunity Center. The three top winners in the essay con test were announced and their essays were read by the secre tary Plans for the Christmas parly were made and everyone is to bring a 59c gift for exchange. It will be held on Dec 14th with a covered dish supper at 6:30 p.m. Mrs. Floyd Cork won file fund and Mrs. Milo Landreth won the door prize. Buckendahl-Brookhouser Wed in Grand Island Miss Janice Buekendahl and Ray Brookhouser, both of Norfolk were united in marriage Monday morning, Nov. 2 at tho Trinity’ Lutheran church at Grand Island The bride is the granddaughter of Mrs. Martha Buckendahl of Norfolk. Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Brook houser of Orchard are the bride groom's parents. Attending the couple were Miss Jeanette Buckendahl of Omaha, aunt of the bride, and Larry L. Brookhouser of Cotesfield. the bridegroom’s brother. The bride and her attendant appeared in medium blue and turquoise street length dress, re spectively. They wore corsages of white carnations with silver bows Following the ceremony a din ner was served honoring the wed ding party at Niemanos Steak house in Grand Island. Mrs. Larry Brookhouser acted as hostess. Mrs. Brookhouser was gradu ated from the Norfolk high school and has been employed the past two years in Norfolk Mr. Brookbouser was a gradu ate of Verdigre high school, lie served three years with the armed forces as parts specialist. Eighteen months was spent in Korea.
