ceived two citations. One was for
their outstanding work in child

Mr. and Mrs. Harry Oxley of
Pleasantdale visited with Mr. and
Mrs. Neven Ickes, sr., on Sep
tember 22 enroute to the Black
Hills.
The Neighborhood club met
with Mrs. Roy Hansen on Wed
nesday with nine members and
one guest, Mrs. Mary ippolt. The
afternoon was spent in playing
pitch. Mrs. George Wettlaufer
won high score and the door
rize. Mis. Lippolt won low. Mrs.

Mr. and Mrs. Irvie Bruce of
Colorado are staying a few days
with Mrs. Ethel Waring.
Carl Sojka just returned from
a trip to Fort Bragg, N. C.,
where he visited with his brother,
Nick, who is stationed there.
On Monday the pupils of Mrs.
Harold Blain of district 128
brought their pets to school and
had a pet show. They had to write
an essay on their pet.
Women's Weslayan Missionary
Society of Venus met on Wednes
day with Ethel Wellman as the
work director.
Mr. and Mrs. William Durkee,
formerly of Page but now of I’uly
allup, Wash., left Friday for Min
nesota and Iowa. They plan to
spend the winter in Arizona.
The Bid or Bye club met with
Mrs. Dan Troshynski on Wednes
day. Mrs. Jerry La mason won
high prize. Mrs. Carl Max was a
guest and Mrs. Harold Heiss be
came a member. Mrs. Cordes Wal

Mrs. Alta Finch on Wednesday
with ten members present. The

magazines was $221.40 which will
be distributed among the high
school classes.
Ray Nissen was general mana
ger. Connie Nissen was captain of
the senior class, Denny Ickes of
the junior class, Alvin Crumly for
the sophomores and Charles Fus
selman for.the freshmen. Pat O'
Brien was top salesman and Char
lene Fusselman second. The so
phomore class sold the most sub
scription and the freshmen were
second. As the seniors and juniors
lost, they will entertain the win
ners at a party.

22 of Mrs. Frieda Asher. The mo

Mr. and Mrs. Tom Farewell of
Pico Riveria, Calif, were calling
on friends in Amelia Friday after
noon. They called on the Lind
seys, Mrs. Delia Ernst, Art W aid
man and the Floyd Adams . They
spent the evening with Mr. and
Mrs. Frank Pierce.
Mr. and Mrs. Paul Briggs and
sons left Wednesday to visit rela
tives in Texas.

Grand Island Friday to attend a
Gideon meeting.

Sunday for a picnic dinner and
sight-seeing trip.
Mr. and Mrs. Charles Bligh of
Omaha visited Mrs. Bligh’s par
ents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Pierce
over Saturday night and Sunday.
Mr Pierce observed his 81st
birthday Wednesday, Sept. 30 and
a dinner was enjoyed Sunday in
honor of the occasion.
Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Rees are
building an addition on their
house. It includes bath and a bed
room.
Mr. and Mrs. Lew Backhaus at
tended the open-house at the home
of Lew’s brother, Roy, Sunday
afternoon in honor of their 25th
wedding anniversary.

Mrs. Edith Andersen.
Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Doolittle,
Jack, Bill and Terry went to Al
bion Sunday to visit the Darrel
Slaymaker family. Mrs. Amy
Slaymaker, Mrs. Doolittle’s moth
er, who had been visiting in her
son’s home at Albion returned
home with the Doolittles.
There were about fifty persons
gathered at the home of Mr. and
Mrs. Roy Backhaus Sunday after
noon to help them observe their
25th w'edding anniversary. Friends
and relatives were present from
Atkinson, O’Neill, Omaha, Cham
bers and Amelia.

at a birthday party in honor of

Norfolk September 22 where they
visited Wayne Boelter, a patient
at the Lutheran hospital. On their
way home they visited her mother,
Mrs. Hattie Boelter at Brunswick.
Mr. Boelter was released form the
hospital Wednesday and returned
to his home in Verdigre.
Mr. and Mrs. Ben Miller spent
the weekend in Omaha with their
son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and
