club will sponsor a benefit piano
and dance recital tonight at the
Atkinson high school auditorium
at 8 p.m The public is invited to
hear a very talented pianist, Miss
Marlene Brooke present several
excellent num’oers. Also an extra
feature of the evenings entertain
ment will be a group of student
dancers under the supervision of
Mrs. Joe Brewster of Stuart. The
proceeds of this entertainment will
be used to improve some1 civic pro
ject in Atkinson
Several from the Atkinson com
munity attended he annual flower
show in Ainsworth sponsored by
the Garden club there on Friday.
It was reported there were many
very beautiful arrangements and
a good attendance. Judges for the
•how were Mrs. Mabel Robertson
of Chambers. Mrs. Frank Skrdla
and Mrs. Fred Mack of Atkinson.

show was opened to the public at

The Utile Dulci Society held
their first meeting at the Park
House Last Friday evening by en
tertaining their husbands and the
faculty members of the Atkinson
public school and their husbands
and wives at a picnic supper. Mrs.
E. R. Brinkman gave the welcome
and entertainment was furnished
by the society.

which was to meet at the home of
Mrs. Lloyd Fusselman on Wednes
dey was postponed due to the death
ot Marlene Schneider. Mrs. Schnei
der's mother, Mrs. Harold Kelly
is a member of the club.
R. N. A. Kensington which was
to be held at the Alta Finch home
was postponed until the 23rd of
I September due to the death of Mrs.
Marlene Schneider.
Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Kelly took
their daughter, Ruth to Wayne
September 8 where she started
classes.

Mr. and Mrs. Otto Matschullat
w'ent to Osmond Sunday to visit
Mr. and Mrs. Fred Horstman as
the are moving to Santa Ana,
Calif., to make their home. Mr.
and Mrs. Charles Horstman of
Sioux City and Mr. and Mrs. Hen
ry Horstman of Wayne were also
there.
Mr. and Mrs. John Gray received
word that their son-in-law, John
Sukuji, age 60, of Lafayette, Cal
if., died on Thursday.
Lt. Richard L. Buxton of Camp
Campbell, Ky., accompanied Cap
tain Wooley as copilot to Omaha
and Lincoln Saturday and went on
to O’Neill where they and Gene
Braddock of Omaha met Richard's
parents, Mr. and Mrs. William
Buxton, for a short visit which
included a luncheon in O’Neill.
They made a short call at the
home of Arnott Buxton and fam
ily. Lt. Buxton’s wife, Audrey and
1 children will come to Nebraska
for a couple of months while her
husband goes to Georgia for fur
ther training.
Faye Irene Ballantyne will re
turn to her nurses training at In
dependence Sanitarium and hospi
tal school of Nursing at Indepen
dence, Mo. Faye Irene has had a
year’s leave of absence due to her

being injured severely in a ear
accident last fall.
Miss Harriet Simmons met her
sister. Miss Jane Simmons at
New York and saw her ofr to Fran
ce on the ship General Simon S.
Buckner. The ship docked at Bre
merhaven, Germany. From there
she went by train to Paris, Fran
ce. She will teach the 4th grade
at the army dependant school at
Orleans, France.
Mre. Robert Asher and children
of Miuth Sioux City were here for
a few days visiting friends and
relatives. Mr, Asher who is the
son of Mrs. Frieda Asher of Page
had gone ahead to Alliance where
he will manage a store for Phil
Cohn. Mrs. Asher and children
willl follow in a few days.

sident Charles DoGaulle at "Paris,

Sgt. Ernest E. Graves, in the act
of saluting, in the background.
His picture was recognized by
his mother, Mrs. Ben Johnson of
Fremont.
Sgt. Graves has completed near
ly 8 years of service in the air
force. For the past four years he
has been assigned to a special
air force guard for the presiden
tial plane.
Sgt. Graves, who is married and
has two children, is 27. He gra
duated from Page high school
in 1950 and left for the service
right after graduation.

The teachers reception was held
on Thursday night with the WSCS
and King s Daughters as co-hos
tesses. Mrs. Merwyn French, jr.
welcomed the group. Each guest
was given a piece of paper with
questions on it. The answers had
to be found with or on the teach
ers and the guests had to figure
them out. After the basket supper
Carl Max introduced the teachers
and then Mrs. Norman Trovv
I bridge led the group in singing.
