COUNTY WIDE CANAL PROJECT
IRRIGATION MEETING

SPONSORED BY THE ATKINSON CHAMBER
OF COMMERCE
Mr. Gordon Wendler, supervisor, Ainsworth Reclamation
District of Northwest Nebraska, with his assistants will be in
Atkinson to discuss and explain in detail the canal irrigation
project which has been under study and planning for this area.
He will explain the past history of the project, the present
status and what the prospect of the project is under the govern
ment plan, and the future possibilities and purposes of the pro
ject.
The Loup Valley Karwell irrigation unit broke ground for the
gigantic Sherman Dam and the contract was let last week.
This is a meeting of all who are interested in irrigation for
Holt County under a canal project. Everyone is welcome. You
are urged to come and get first hand information from our
supervisor of the O’Neill Canal Information.

A one car accident early Sunday
morning resulted in considerable
damage to a car owned by Ronnie
Shaw of Verdel. Driver of the car
was Dick Steinback. Other occu
pants were Dale Eiler, Margene
Weeder, Marlene Streit, Teddy
Zack and Norman Stiefvater. The
two girls were hospitalized but no
serious injuries were reported. The
boys received only minor bruises.
Mrs. Peter Mulhair visited her
mother, Mrs. Roy Lowry in O’Neill
August 25.
Mr. and Mrs. Leo Jorgensen re
turned this week from a trip
through the Black Hills. While

from the Atkinson hospital the,
early part of the week.
Mr. and Mrs. Marian Strenger (
of Omaha brought his grandmoth
er, Mrs. Emma Lindsey, to her
home in Amelia after visiting her
daughter, Mrs. P. L. Strenger;
in Omaha the past three weeks. J
P. L. Strenger has been ill in
the veterans hospital for three j
months and expects to be there
another two or three months.
Craig Fullerton fell from a gate
Saturday evening and broke his
collar bone. He is the son of Mr.
and Mrs. Roy Fullerton.
Harold Kennedy and Michael
Pospichal are attending school
in Amelia this year. They are from
the Berry district.
Mr. and Mrs. Marian Strenger,
Mrs. Lindsey and Florence were
sight seeing at Fort Randall, S.
D. Sunday.
Mrs. Julia White of Atkinson
spent the early part of the week
with Mrs. Edith Andersen. She
plans to leave Saturday to visit
with her daughter, Mrs. Frank
Braddock. Several ladies gather
ed at the home of Mrs. Edith An
dersen to celebrate her birthday
which falls on September 6.
Mrs. Harold Fullerton began her
school term at Valley Center
school Monday.
