Mr and Mrs. Martin Van Conet and George returned home July 31 from a trip which took them tc Seattle. On their way west, they trucked the household goods ul Clifford Hahlbeck and family tc Parma, Ida., and on their retun home, they brought the househoic goods of Mr. and Mrs. Marcus Pierson from Seattle. Mr. and Mrs. Aidrich Thomser left last week to make their homi in Fremont. Mrs. Edna Ixifquist and Mrs. A1 fred Doud attended the graveside rites for a relative. Jack Hodge at Elgin, Wednesday afternoon July 29. Funeral services for Mr Hodge were held at Albion. Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Doud w'ere Friday evening guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Tony Rothleut ncr and family. Mrs. Clarence Doud has beer making regular trips to O’Neil] for treatments and care for hei 6 year old daughter, Delores, whc is suffering from an ear infec tion. Miss Haze Rudy, Mrs. Andrey Olson and Mrs Harry Van Horn. Mr and Mrs. L.‘ J. Rotherham left to return to Colorado Springs last week They recently purchased a home in Ewing and the Greer Lantern Cafe. Due to the ill health of Mr. Rotherham, they found it necessary to give up their busi ness here. His mother, Mrs. Roy Rotherham is back in the cafe again. The Junior Youth Fellowship group of the United Presbyterian church went to Niobrara on Tues day to spend the day. picnicking, swimming and hiking. Mrs. Ralph Shrader is the sponsor of the group Bob Pruden, who was injured while repairing a hay stacker damaged in last week’s wind storm, is a patient at St. Anthony's hospital in O'Neill. He was visit ed Sunday by his parents, Mr, ami Mrs. J L. Pruden, Mr. and i Mrs. Sam Burtwistie and Mr and Mrs. Ben I-arsen. Mrs. Doris Sanders has purchas ed the property recently vacated by the Sam Reinke family, owned by A. J Sanders at Laurel. Mrs. Sanders is doing considerable re modeling and redecorating at the present time. Mr. ami Mrs. Lyle Dierks plan to go to Omaha on Thursday where they will attend the gradua tion exercises at St. Joseph's school of Nursing, when their neice. Miss Mary Catherine Carr will graduate. Miss Carr is a grar dua'e of the Ewing high school. Mr and Mrs. Arthur Kropp and family spent Sunday at Stanton visiting at the home of his hro ther-in-law and sister. Mr. and Mrs. Mason Mortiz. Sunday evening guests at the Arthur Kropp home were Mr. ami Mrs. Max Jeffers and family of | O'Neill and Mrs. Charles Young of Inman. Mr and Mrs. Elmer Bergstrom and Kay were supper guests at the Ralph Munn home Sunday, when they enjoyed a barbecue on the lawn. Mr. and Mrs. Sis Ebbengaard at tended the races at Columbus on July 29. Mr. and Mrs. Sis Ebbengaard were Sunday evening guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs Roy Stevens at Clearwater. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Roberts and family of Atkinson were guests Tuesday evening, July 28, at the home of their daughter and hus band, Mr. and Mrs. Floyd But terfield and family. Mr and Mrs. Ray Funk and family accompanied by her mother, Mrs. Laura Spittler, were Sunday guests at the home of Dr. and Mrs. Loo Spittler and family at Norfolk. Mary Karen and Shir ley Funk remained for a week’s visit at the Spittler home. Mrs. Laura Spittler spent the weekend of July 25 at the home of her son and daughter-in-law,! Mr. and Mrs Richard Spittler and family of Valentine. One of Ewing's most forward-looking citizens is (Util Boies, who ' I has had a new service station constructed. He had been in the service station business for several years before building the new building. He plans a grand o|M‘iiing soon. His station is now the newest business addition to the community. Mr. and Mrs Valgene Kreiter and children left Friday to return to California after spending about ten days with her mother, Mrs Martha Hill and other relatives. Mr. Kreiter is in the U. S. Navy. Douglas and Suz anne from Georgia, were entertain ed at dinner Thursday evening at t.ie home of Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Hill at Royal. Six-thirty dinner and evening guests on Friday at the Ray Butler home were Mr. and Mrs. H. R. Hams and Bertha Mr. and Mrs. William Hobbs were Norfolk visitors on Sunday Their daughters, Jeanie and Tina, who had been guests of their grand parents. Mr. and Mrs. John Sehiff bauer for a few days, returned home with them. Patty Hobbs returned home Fri day from Norfolk where she had spent a few days of her vacation with her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs John Schiffhauer. Monday evening guests at the G. D. Ryan home were Mr. and Mrs. Marks of Tilden, Mr. and Mrs. O. Engelson of Oakdale and Mr and Mrs. R. Scott of Niobra ra. Richard Roberts, who has ■ecently undergone lung surgery it Ft. Sam Houston hospital in rexas, arrived Saturday evening, accompanied by his brother, who is with the Navy at Kingsville, rex. The boys each are on a 30 Jay furlough and Richard will spend his time convalescing at the home of his parents. Mrs. Hazel Ash and daughter Nancy and son, Jim, arrived Fri day to spend a few' days visiting her mother, Mrs. Herman McDan iels. Mrs. Ash had not seen her mother for nine years. The Ash family live at San Jose, Calif., They plan to go to Des Moines enroute home to visit relatives and friends there. Miss Nancy Ash was guest so loist at the Methodist church ser vice Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Johnson and family of O’Neill spent Sun day evening at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Roth. Mrs. Hazel Ash, Nancy and Jim, San Jose, Calif., and Mr. and Mrs. Herman McDaniels were Sunday evening guests of Mr. and Mrs. Mike Bonenberger and girls. Mrs. Ash brought film strips taken over the last couple of years of their family and a trip, through the Yosemite National Park in Calif ornia, which were shown on the screen by Mike Bonenberger. They came to help with some painting in the new home of Mr. and Mrs. Loo Kramer which is nearing comple tion in west Atkinson. Mrs. Thomp son and Mrs. Kramer are sisters. The Baker's Dozen Extension club met Sunday evening at the home of Mrs. Elizabeth Richeson for a pot luck picnic supper. About 22 attended the picnic. The next regular meeting will be in September with Mrs. Bill Ziska. Mr. and Mrs, Frances D. Plans were discussed to make and enter a float in the coming Hay Days parade A special meet ing was held on Wednesday eve ning at the home of Mr. anil Mrs Fred Roberts to work out a plan and get started on the float. Last Saturday evening was the last chance to nominate candidates for the coming Hay Days queer., one of the ladies nominated will reign as queen for the coming year. Last years quern and still reigning is Clara Thurlow, daugh ter of Mr. and Mrs. Norton Thur low. She will turn over the crown to the new queen at the Coronation ceremony at Hay Days celebration on August 27 and 2$. Those nominated to compote for tho queen are Miss Mary Ann Stra ka. From there Mrs. Anson and Mrs. Sehorn will drive to Madison where they will meet Mrs. Anson’s aunt, Mrs. Violet Dickerson, who will return to Atkinson with the ladies for a visit in the Anson home.
