    Post-Rodeo Meeting
Members of the O'Neill Rodeo
Association met at a post-rodeo
meeting Tuesday night and an
nounced that this year's show was
profitable.
A spokesman for the association
said enough money was made to
pay for improvements on the
rounds.
Plans were discussed to have
a cutting horse and calf roping
contest in August or September of
this year.
Funeral Is Held For
Phoenix Homesteader
ATKINSON Funeral services
for John Damero, 80, who lived
in the Phoenix community, were
held Monday at the St. Johns
Lutheran church in Atkinson with
the Rev. Emil Kuehn officiating.
Mr Damero died in the Atkin
son Memorial hospital after being
hospitalized seven days.
He was bom in 1879 at East
Troy, Wise., the son of John and
Frednka Voss Damero. In April
1882 he came to Holt county with
his parents and settled on a home
stead in the Phoenix community
and lived there until his death.
He was preceded in death by
his parents, three sisters and four
brothers. Survivors are: Widow—
Iouise: sons-Carl and Lyle;
daughter—Mrs. Jack i Virginia!
Pratt of Cheyenne. Wyo.; sister—
Mrs. Edith Syfie; five grandchil
dren
Pallbearers were Alex Frickel,
Rex Coburn. Harold Kirkland,
Fritz Naber, Alfred Kazda and Al
l>ert Kenkel of Bridge Water, la
Honorary pallbearers were Vic
Faust, Henry Woidneck, Ben Reis
er. Romaine Rohde. Howard Gree
ley and Walter O'Malley.
Funeral It Friday
For G. A. Reel
SPENCER Funeral services
will be conducted Friday at 10
a m at the Methodist Church for
George A. Reel, 87, who died Tues
day at the home of his daughter in
Dixon where he was visiting.
Rev. Harold Jansen will officiate
and burial will be in the National
cemetery at Spencer.
Mr Reel, a retired farmer, was
born Dec. 7, 1871. He farmed near
here for 45 years l>efore retiring.
He was united in marriage to
Mary Simpson on November 21,
1894 and five children were bom
to them.
Survivors: Sons Ray of Salem,
Ore . Paul of Spencer and Claude
of Phoenix, Ariz.; daughters
Mrs R. L. Sparks of Dixon and
Mrs Leo Adams of Spencer and
11 grandchildren.
Pallbearers chosen are James
Klasna, Carl Nelson, Louis Adams,
Arden Berg, Carl Andersen and
Mandus Olin.
GOLF AT STUART
STUART Plans are heing made
in Stuart to construct a 9-hole
sand greens golf course According
to reliable sources, if the present
layout is found suitable^ the course
will be constructed in the near
future.
ARSON SUSPECTED
Holt county sheriff Leo Tomjack
reported no new developments on
the $3,000 fire at the Mrs. Vera
Paddock home in Atkinson Arson
was suspected by state fire mar

COMMANDER RE-ELECTED
Mike A. Coday of Atkinson will
he installed as post commander of
the Atkinson American Legion
Post tonight (Thursday). Coday
was re-elected to the position.
DESTRUCTIVE HAIL
Burwell received a very destruc
ti\e hail storm Sunday 'at 6 a.m.
Although the hail was small, it
came with such force that many
gardens and crops were destroyed.

UU ISA MARY LOWERY
Louisa Mary Durand Lowery
was born in Lucerne, Switzerland,
August 5, 1871, the daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Mark Durand. She
died July 5. 1959. at 3 a.m. at
the hospital in O’Neill at the age
of 87 years. 11 months and one
day.
She came to the United States
with her parents before she was
one The family lived in South
Carolina and North Carolina un
til moving to Doniphan when she
was approximately 15. She later
moved to tiie Chambers area
where she lived the rest of her
life .
She was united in marriage tc
Abraham Lincoln Lowery in 189C
at Chambers. Four sons and 2
daughters were born to them: 1
son died in infancy: another. Paul
and one daughter. Lydia, preceded
her in death, as did her husband,
who died January 23. 1944. Surviv
ing her are 2 sons. Fred of O'Neill
and Ernest of Hallsville, Tex.: 2
daughters—Arelie Jarman of Boul
ber. Colo., and Cecile Smith of
Chambers: 9 grandchildren; and
a number of great-grandchildren,
nieces and nephews and many oth
er relatives and friends.
She was a member of the Bap
tist church of Chambers.
Pallbearers were Jarold Me
Clanhan. Edwin Hubbard, William
Keninger, Kenneth Weller George
Bowse and Ralph Garwood
Ernest Farrier. Gfcen Taylor,
Mrs. Leo Adams. Mrs. Marie Sch
wenk sang at the funeral.
Vernon Smith acted as usher
for the services.
Francis Lyle Kiser
Francis Lyle Riser, son of Frank
and Letha Riser was bom May 31, !
1923 on a farm northeast of Friend,
where he spent his entire life He
died on Wednesday evening June
24, 1959 following a severe heart
attack,
He graduated from Friend high
school with the class of 1940. He
j entered military service in 1942
and was discharged in 1945. He
was united in marriage to Miss
Betty Johnson of Dorchester on
June 9, 1950. Three children were
born to this union.
Mr. Riser is survived by his wi
dow, Betty and the three children,
Barbara Jean, Eugene Lyle and
Carol Ann Also by his father and
mother, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Riser
and three sisters, Mrs. Veronica
Huber of Lincoln, Mrs. Lois George
of Phoenix, Ariz., and Mrs. Cleta
Spadt of Roca.
Funeral services were held Mon
day at the Methodist Church in
Friend with Rev. R. W. Sandsted
officiating. Mrs Murray Dilley
and Mrs. Oris Williams accompan
ied by Mrs. Longin Prokop at the
organ sang "Beyond the Sunset"
and "The Old Rugged Cross."
Pallbearers were Russ Spadt,
John Koznek, Joe Ladman. Ben En
gel, Curtis Barling and Clarence
Engel Burial was in the Andrew
Cemetery. Among those from a di
stance who attended the services
