Ewing News Retires After 40 Years i Teaching; 31 at Ewing By Mrn. Harold Harris Miss Elsie Chase, a teacher in the Ewing high school for the past 31 years is retiring this year. Dur ing tills time she has taught com mercial subjects, typing, short hand, general business, bookkeep ing and office practice. These sub jects were on the schedule of the Students in their junior year. Many of her students have secured good positions on graduation from high school. Others have attended a business college for a career along commercial lines. In preparation for her 40 years as an instructor. Miss Chase at tended Kearney State Teachers college, the Nebraska School of j Business and the University of Ne braska. She received her A. B. Degree fmm the Kearney State Teachers College. During the past year she was sponsor of the sophomore class The Ewing public school closed May 27 for the summer vacation. Mr. and Mrs. Roger Wunner came Saturdey for a weekend vis it with relatives. They left Mon day to return to their home at Chi cago. Ill. accompanied by both their mothers, Mrs. John Wunner, Ewing and Mrs. Bertha Wegner of Orchard. Mr. and Mrs. Roland Horde of Ewing and their son, Duane of Syarcuse were guests on Sunday at the Dewitt Gunter home. Mr. and Mrs. Richard Edwards and family were entertained Sun da y at the home of Mr. .and Mrs Archie Tuttle and daughter, Leon ora. Coach and Mrs. Thomas Hutton and family plan to leave Thursday for Glacier Park, Mont., where Coach Hutton is empolyed as park ranger at the many Glacier En trance. Coach Hutton will return to Ewing for the fall term of school. Mr. and Mrs. L. A. Hobbs were very much surprised on Sunday a bout noon when the members of their family liegan to arrive with well filled baskets for a picnic din ner, honoring the birthday anni versary of their mother which is May 27 and their father's on June 1. Bob Eppenbach is a patient at the Veterans hospital at Grand Is land. Mr. Eppenbach, a veteran of World War II severely wounded in battle at the time, and after many months of hospitaliztion was discharged. Now after several , years trouble again has resulted ■ from the affects of battle. Mr. Eppenbach is commander | of the American Legion Sanders < Post No. 214 Ewing.
