Miss Barbara Hoffman was hon or guest at a bridal shower Thurs day evening at the American Leg ion hall Mrs George Courtney and Mrs. Velma McDonald were pro gram chairmen. The guests mod eled wedding gowns for entertain ment. The oldest wedding gown, modeled by Mrs. Edward Heiser, belonged to the late Mrs. Jess Davy. About 15 gowns were mod eled. Mrs. Wallace Moffet, as Grandma, read its history as if reminiscing. Miss Hoffman and Carl Weeder plan to be married Saturday, January 31. 3,748 Books Are Circulated, Ewing Readership Upped, Librarian Says EWING — Exactly 3,748 books were checked out to readers at the public library during the year of 1958. Over two thousand of this number were to juvenile readers of the community. Rural teachers checked out approximately 250 books to be used as supplemen tary reading in their schools. Mrs. H. R. Harris, librarian, also reports an increase of read ers from the grades of the Ewing public school. Seventy-five new books were purchased for the library the past year. Three hundred books, plus an additional vacation loan of 75 books, were available to this com munity through the Nebraska Pu bic Library Commission Other books requested by readers were also secured from the commis sion. The Ewing News and Clearwa ter Record, a gift to the library by the publishers, and magazines donated to the library, have pro vided other reading material. The board of the Ewing public library met Friday evening at the home of Miss Ina Bennett, secretary. All members were pre sent. Waldo Davis, president, pre sided. The financial report was given by Mrs. H. R. Harris, treasurer.. This was followed by a general discussion of the library work the past year and for the future in the community.t Polio Benefit at Ewing Is Planned EWING — A polio benefit for the Ewing community is in the making with Mrs. Loyd West as program chairman. A meeting was held at the West home Monday afternoon, January 26, to start proceedings. Plans were made for a ladies’ cage game. Twenty-eight candidates were listed for the basketball teams. Names are pending for the teams participating. The cheerlead ers will be Mrs. Waldo Davis and Mrs. J. L. Pruden for one side and Mrs. Allen Pollock and Mrs. Dck Brion for the other. Mrs. William Hobbs was elected “water boy’’. Supt. G. D. Ryan and Coach Tom Hutton will be the referees. Watch The Frontier for further announcements. After the adjournment of the business meeting, Mrs. Dick Bri on, a newcomer to Ewing, was welcomed by her neighbors and Mrs. Willis Rockey, who was cele brating a birthday was pleasantly reminded of the event by her friends. A beautiful birthday cake was presented to her. Lunch was served by Mrs. West. Circle Six Party Is Well-Attended EWING—A card party, sponsored by circle six of the Christian Moth ers of St. Peter’s church, had a good attendance at Sunday eve ning’s entertainment. The score winners for pitch were Mrs. August Thiele and John Bauer, who received high and Mrs. Ivan Wright and Eddie Ro therham, low. For pinochle, high score winners were Mrs. Tony Pruss of Orchard and Mr. Melvin Roach of Page and low went to Leo Hawk and Mrs. Leonard Knapp, both of Ewing. Mrs. Thiele was also the winner of the special prize presented by the circle. Mrs. Charles Rotherham, chair man. and Mrs. Ralph Munn, co chairman, were assisted by the members of circle one, Mrs. John Archer, chairman. Lunch was served.
