‘Beef State’ Unit
Is Being Recruited
Again this year, as in the past
three years, a special all-Nehraskn
"Beef State company” will he re
cruited in February. The men of
this s|x>cial company will receive
final processing in Omaha, Feb
ruary 23 and 24 and will attend
swearing-in ceremonies at the
State Capitol Iniilding in Lincoln,
February 25. They will be flown
to San Diego, Calif., later that
same day where they will com
mence nine weeks of training as a
unit at the U S. naval training cen
ter.
The principal reason for mak
ing this special yearly effort to
acquire an all-Nebraska special
company of Navy recruits is the
outstanding records attained by
previous "Beef State companies"
while at the naval training center.
The "Beef State company ’58" for
example, won the Brigade award
at San Diego for outstanding per
formance in sports competition,
personnel inspection, precision drill
and other phases of training. They
triumphed over 14 similar all-state
companies in training at that
time. •_
