Criss Dies Unexpectedly I SPENCER—Glenn J. Criss, 61, an army veteran of World War I, j died Friday, October 17, at the | home of his mother, Mrs. E. M. j Couch, at Spencer. Funeral services were conduct ed at 2 p.m., Monday, October 20, at the United Lutheran church in Spencer with Rev. Hugh O. Dow lor, church pastor, officiating. Burial was in Union cemetery here under direction of the Jones | funeral home. Members of Luther Whidden j post of the American Legion con ducted military graveside rites. Pallbearers were Leonard Kinney, Robert Hickey, Albert Schmaltz. John Havranek, C. H. Fisher and Russell Angus. Survivors include: Mother — Mrs. E. M. Drive-Up’ Mail Box Installed Helmut Arnold a Nebraska state highway department employee, tries the new “drive-up” mailing facility installed at the postoffice comer (Fourth and Clay sts.) Spencer in Narrow Win Over Verdigre— VERDIGRE The Spencer high Pirates defeated the Verdigre Hawks in an exciting football game here Friday, 18-13. Spencer got the first touchdown in the opening quarter, but the Hawks went ahead in the same period when Jimmie Boelter crossed the goal-line and also add ed the conversion point. Spencer took a 12-7 half-time lead with a second quarter TD. The third quarter was scoreless, The Pirates made it 18-7 in the early part of the final period, but Arlie Nelson ran 65 yards for a Verdigre counter to make it 18-13.
