placement cattle continued to
demand favorable bids with the
least demand for weightier
yearling steers. Spring calves
topped at $40.50 with their heav
ier heifer mates sold at $35.00.
Other calves at $35.00 to $38.00
on steers and $31.50 to $34.00 on
heifers Yearling steers topped
at $30.00 to $31.50 while others
sold from $27.00 to $30.00 cwt.

$26.00; yearling heifers largely

Vehicle Fires—
O’Neill firemen were called twice
Tuesday, September 23. At 2:30 p.
m , they were summoned to the
Hometown Motor company where
a truck being worked on leaked gas, I
caught afire. Damage was slight.
Owner of the truck was Charles i
Kohler of Page.
Shortly after 3 p m., the firemen
j were summoned to the bus depot.
A car tielonging to an Orchard
motorist had caught afire. Dam
age was slight although front and
! rear cushions were burned.

O’NEILL Mrs. John Carr was
transferred from St. Anthony’s
hospital last Thursday to a hos
pital in Sioux City. . . Mr. and
Mrs. C. W, Porter went to Hast
ings Monday for his father, Edwin
F. Porter, who had submitted to
eye surgery. He is getting along
fine. . Edgar Allan, who was

AMELIA — Mrs. Arthur Hiatt
and son, Paul, and Mr. and Mrs.
Frank Pierce went to Hastings
Thursday to consult an eye spe
cialist. . . Mr. and Mrs. William
Fryrear were in Norfolk Thursday
for medical attention in behalf of
Mrs. Fryrear, who entered a hos
pital there early this week for sur
gery. . . Mrs. Blosson Butler was
a patient in the Atkinson hospital
last week suffering with bursitis.
She returned home Saturday
evening.
CELIA Mrs. Charles Phipps of
Scottsbluff came Friday, Septem
ber 19, to help care for her father,
"Grandpa" Blow, who is ill. He
was moved to the Mark Hendricks
home a week ago and Mrs. Phipps
is staying there to help with his
care. Her husband, Reverend
(Phipps, was pastor of Wesleyan
Methodist church at Atkinson for
several years.
ATKINSON John Silverstrand,
who lives southeast of Atkinson,
was hurt early Thursday while re
pairing a cornpicker. He suffered
facial cuts when two iron rods un
i derneath the machine slipped and
fell across his face. Five stitches
were taken in a lower lip cut. The
rods weighed about 50 pounds.
LYNCH—Mr .and Mrs. Harlan
Holtz were in Sioux City Tuesday,
: September 23, where Harlan had
■ his regular checkup on his arm
I from which he had a tumor re
' moved recently. While still un
able to use his arm, he is getting
along satisfactorily.
EMMET — Mrs. Grace Alder of
Redbird is at St. Anthony's hospi
tal where her casts have been re
moved. She will be wearing bra
ces on her injured back from now
on instead. She had been convales
cing at the home of her son here.
DORSEY Mrs. Vernon Oleson
returned home Thursday from Sa
cred Heart hospital. . . Miss
Helen Halstead was absent from
high school Monday due to sick
ness. . . Mrs. Grace Alder entered
the hospital again.
DELOIT- Mrs. John Tagel has
been hospitalized in Neligh. . .
Mrs. Ralph Tomack visited Anna
VanZandt in Ewing Monday. Miss
VanZandt is recovering from a fall
at her home.

received a broken collarbone
while playing Sunday, September
7. He is wearing a brace on the
shoulder.

patient in the Atkinson hospital.

Miss Marcella Dendinger re
turned from Wisconsin to live with
her parents. Mr. and Mrs. Ray
Dendinger. Mrs. Dendinger went ,

and they returned home Monday

Lutheran Pastors
to Convene Here
The north central regional past
oral conference of the northern
Nebraska district of the Lutheran
church- -Missouri synod will he
held Tuesday. October 7. at Christ
Lutheran church. Seventh and
Clay Sts.
The conference will begin at 9
a m. with holy communion. Rev.
B. Meschke of Norfolk will deliver
the sermon, and the O'Neill past
or, Rev. A. S. Gedwillo, will he
the liturgist administering the sac
rament.
More than 50 pastors from the
region will hear presentations on
eexegetical , doctrinal, historical
and practical theology. Rev. F.
Neidner of West Point, president
of the northern Nebraska district
of the church, will present reports
on district and synodical matters
The women of Christ Lutheran
church will prepare and serv e the
noon and evening meals.
This conference, one of four reg
ional conferences in the district, is
held annually. Plans ate slated for
a spring pastoral Conference of the
entire district to he held here next
year.
