Loaded Truck Fails
to Make Corner
John L. Hohbs, 18 of Omaha
was driver of a 1947 Reo truck
loaded with crated army surplus
vehicle parts. At 10:20 am.,
Thursday at the O'Neill Drive-In
theater corner, the Hobbs ve
hicle failed to make the corner
and overturned.
Hobbs told authorities he W’as
traveling at about 45 mph when
he came upon the warning sign.
He stated that he shifted into a
lower gear and applied the
brakes. The load shifted. Hohbs
said, and caused the upset.
The warning sign advises mo
torists the maximum speed of the
curve is 30 mph.
A one-car accident occurred
Monday at the intersection of
Madison and Williams sts., in
which Gary Elsberry, driver,
failed to make the turn. The front
spring of his vehicle broke. No
one was injured.
A collision between a car and
truck took place Monday on East
Douglas street in front of the
Shelhamer Equipment building.
The car was driven by Clarence
Ross of O'Neill and the truck by
Claude Walter Smith of Kremlin,
Okla. Smith was charged with
reckless driving and was fined
$24 and $5 costs in justice court
The accident happened about 8:40
p.m.
Hurts Neck In
Auto Mishap—
PAGE Alvin Heese, Holt coun
ty service officer, is wearing a
partial neck cast. He was hurt
about 1:20 p.m., Saturday while I
driving eastbound at a point lMt
miles north of Page and IV4 miles
east. His machine struck a calf
in the road and the calf had to
be killed, having sustained a brok
en leg.
Riding with Heese were his
daughter, Karen, 11. whose head
cracked the windshield, and Da
vid Beickler, 6, Ileese’s nephew.
The boy hurt his nose.
