Little green aphids in vetch, clover, alfalfa, peas, tomatoes and lettuce; red aphids in roses; other aphids on cornroots and even strawberry roots. Aphids can become a serious [H>st and cause total damage. The reason they can become so de structive is their ability to re produce in such large numbers i so quickly. In some aphid clans, the ex perts say, every one is a female and these females lay from five 1 to 20 young in a single day. The young, in turn, are capable of I reproducing in another five to iu days. The result of such a buildup in population that control becomes difficult and sometimes impract ical. For control the state extension ' service recommends the use of malathion. When used on veget ables such as beans, one should wait seven days before eating the vegetables. By following direc tions on the container, one can be safe. The number one question being fired at county extension people and others who are supposed to know is this: What will the green lor i>ea) aphid do to the alfalfa and vetch? Hot weather, which moved in to the area Friday and Saturday, will help stop the cycle and also aid those using chemicals to con trol the pesky youngin’s. METHODIST (Page Inman) Rev. Lisle E.
