Addresses Canadian Doctors
presenting a paper in Montreal
at the 38th annual meeting and
Congress of the Canadian Physio
therapy association recently was
an O Neill girl, r>r. Nadeno
Coyne-, daughter of Mr and Mrs
Hugh E. Coyne. She is director
of the department of Physical
Medicine and Rehabilitation for
Cleveland s City hospital.
My mothers family was full
of doctors and it just seemed nat
ural to me to want to be one, too",
Or. Coyne stated. After a three
year pre-mod course, she entered
physiotherapy. After serving for
four years as a therapist in mili
tary hospitals m the army, she
went back to medical school at
the University of Illinois ami In
terned at Philadelphia General
hospital. Anil now she is a spe
cialist in physical medicine or a
"physiatnst".
Physical medicine is used es
pecially in the treatment of dis
abled persons. It tends to keep
the functional level high of pa
tients sulfering from any illness
or accident involving unpaired
ability. This type of treating pa
tents by physical means has only
been admitted as a specialty of
study in the United States since
194b.
When being interviewed by the
Montreal Star and Herald, IXictor
Coyne said that the future for a
physiatrist is a bright one. "Since

service representative of the Ne
braska Slate Educational Associ
ation and a panel discussion.
Participants of the panel were
Viola Garwood, moderator; Gene
vieve O'Neill, Feme Livingston,
I kms Spann, Doris Marcellus and
Jane Grubb.
The discussion centered chiefly
around the value of the NSEA
and teachers’ clubs.
Viola Garwood was appointed
as delegate to the NSEA confer
ence to be held at Chadron in
August, according to Christine
Krysl, rejiorter.

VFW Parley
District II meeting of the ladies
auxiliary of the Veterans of For
eign Wars was held at Valentine
Sunday, May 4, with President
Mary Boham presiding.
District officers were elected
for the coming year. Those hold
ing office from Post 926 are Lila
Kngdahl, senior vice-president;
Barbara Sprague, junior vice
president; and Goldie Tucker
conductress.
Twenty-two members were
present from Bassett, Long Pine,
Ainsworth, Valentine, and O'Neill
auxiliaries.

bers present. Project reports
were given by Kenny Peacock,
Dianne Gillespie, Lynn McCarthy,
Larry Dawes, Sally Herley, Sher

al of the bride’s life, Betty and
Carolyn, small daughters of Mr.
and Mrs. A1 Rockford and nieces
of the bride, sting "Jesus Loves
Me.”. Other songs were by a trio
composed of Bonnie Peterson, La
vonne Schmidt and Joyce Mik
kelson. A skit telling of Miss
Scott’s birth was given by Mrs.
Nels Mikkelson. A reading dealing
with things one should know
about a husband was given by
Mrs. Clarence Fry. Karen Kruse
was the pianist. Lunch was ser
ved.
Other Chambers News
The county eye testing of grade
school children, sponsored by the
extension clubs was done in
Chambers on Thursday and Fri
day, May 15-16. Approximately
136 children were tested. Mrs.
Frank Tracy, group chairman,
was in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Harold Bonath, Mrs. Harlan
Dierking, Mrs. Vern Sageser and
Mrs. Merle Fagan ran the ma
chine. The clerical work was
done by Mrs. Lloyd deed and
Mrs. E. R. Carpenter on Thurs
day and Mrs. G. H. Grimes and
Mrs. Lloyd Hilligas on Friday.

Hopkins. Rain Tuesday evening
curtailed the attendance but those
present reported the affair as one
of the best of its kind ever pre
sented at Chambers.
The grade school closed with
a picnic at the school house, Wed
nesday, May 21.
Mr. and Mrs. James Grimes
returned Monday, May 12 from
Vancouver, Wash., where they
have spent several weeks with his
brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and
Mrs. Bob Brittell.
Mr. and Mrs. A. L. Goddard of
Gresham, Ore., came Friday,
May 16 for a visit with her bro
ther and sister-in-law, Mr. and
Mrs. Art Miller and Glen. Mr.
and Mrs. Robert Grey and Ver
nie Hunter of Page, visited the
Millers and Goddards Saturday.

Dannebrog were visiting friends
at Chambers Tuesday, May 13.

Walter Whiting of Omaha, and
Marian Lindsey Stronger, son of
Mr. and Mrs. P. L. Strenger of
Omaha, were married Sunday,
i April 27. at a candlelight cere
mony at Trinity Methodist church
in Omaha.
Rev. Merton Wyatt officiated
at the double-ring ceremony.
The altar was decorated with
Ixxjquets of snapdragons, painted
daisies and mums flanked with
palm leaves.
Russell DeVoe, cousin of the
bride, was vocal soloist. He was
accompanied on the organ by
Mrs. Sam Weaver.
The bride, given in marriage by
her step-father, wore a floor
length gown of chantily lace and
tulle. It was designed with a fit
ted lace bodice, lace stand-up
collar and long sleeves. The bou
ffant skirt of tulle featured a
panel of lace. The fingertip veil
of imported illusion w'as caught
by a tiara of seed pearls and
iridescent sequins.
She carried a bouquet of white
roses and streamers centered
with a white orchid on a w'hite
Bible.
Miss Sylvia James of Des
Moines, la., was maid-of-honor.
She wore a formal gown of green
net over taffeta which featured
a bolero jacket. She carried a
crescent bouquet of yellow carna
tions. Her hat of matching ma
terial w'as fashioned with a cir
cular veil.
Mrs. Bernard O’Dell of Coun
cil Bluffs, la., Miss Caryl Ober
nilman of Lyons, and Miss Di
ane McDaniel were bridesmaids.
They wore long gowns of lace and
net over taffeta in shades of blue,
pink and yellow. The dresses
were fashioned with a draped em
pire Ixxlire. scoop neckline and
cap sleeves. They wore matching
half hats of iridescent braid with
circular veils and carried cres
cent bouquets of lavender and
blue carnations.

cousin of the bride, was flower- j

for his brother.

10-months-old, departed early Sat
urday for Ayr, Scotland, where
they will visit until August with
Mrs. Maly’s parents, Mr. and
Mrs. Andrew' Morrison, 6 Mt. Oli
phant Place, Ayr.
Mrs. Maly, wife of a technician
at the Pinkerman T-V store,
came to the United States in Oc
tober, 1956, with her husband,
who had been stationed in the
United Kingdom 43 months.
The trio made the trip by air
and reached Scotland Sunday af
ternoon (O’Neill time).
Mr. and Mrs. Clayton Johnson
and son had Sunday dinner with
Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Johnson in
O’Neill.
