Mrs. Mlnarik Notes Itirtlulay— A family get-together was held Sunday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. James Mlnarik to cele brate the birthday anniversary of her mother, Mrs. Fred Serr. The birthday cake was made and decorated by Mrs- Dwight Sch roeder, a granddaughter of Mrs. Serr. A 1 o'clock dinner was ser ved and the altemoon hours were spent visiting. Present were: Mr. and Mrs. Fred Serr of Clearwa ter,. Don Mackey of Elgin, Miss Donna Mlnarik of Neligh, Mr. and Mrs Dwight Schioeder and fam ily of Ewing. Two Families Move of Chambers— Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Adams and Larry moved last week into the home they recently purchased in the north part of town. They sold their trailer house, where they had been living. Mr. and Mrs. William Craw ford and family moved the first of this week into the home they purchased in the east part of town. Mr. and Mrs. Tom Lambert and children who have occupied the house moved to the Ed Por ter property. Essay Wins James Gilg (above), son of Mr and Mrs Clarence Gilg of Atkinson, was named state winner in an Americanism contest sponsored by the Nebras ka department of the Veterans I of Foreign Wars. Gilg, a St. I Joseph hall senior at Atkinson, has been a consistent winner in essay writing and oratory.- O’ Neill Photo Co. ’ Engagement Told Mr. and Mrs. Frank Cronk have announced the engage ment of their daughter, Miss Linda (above), to Larry Heiss, j son of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Heiss of Page. Miss Cronk at tends Wayne State Teachers college. Mr. Heiss attended Nebraska Wesleyan university in Lincoln. No date has been set for the wedding. Four Are Reelected REA Directors The annual meeting of the members of the Niobrara Valley Electric Membership corporation was held last Thursday at the American Legion hall. Over 200 members and guests were pres sent. The following directors were re-elected for a three-year term: William Blakkolb of Naper, A1 Schindler of Monowi, George Rowse of Chambers, and John Flannery of Atkinson. In the reports, it was stated that $102,893.37 was paid during 1957 in interest and principal on the loan from REA. Ed Wilson, manager, stressed that electric heating of houses is one of the developments in elec trical use. Stan Matzke, assistant to the manager of the Central Nebraska Public Power and Irrigtion dis trict, was featured speaker. Mr. Matzke reviewed progress of the water development in the south l>ortion of the state of Nebraska. He stressed that many valuable improvements have been made for the benefit of the entire state. Refreshments were served by the Holt County Extension Worker’s club. KEDllIKI) NEWS Mrs. Joe Sylvester of Chicago, 111., came Sunday, April 27, to spend a week with her brother, Clay Mashino, and family. She departed Monday. Mr. and Mrs. Clay Mashino, Mrs. Beryl Bessert and daugh ter and Mrs. Joe Sylvester visited at Burke, S.D., Wednesday, April 30, at the home of their nephew, Mr. and Mrs. Clifford King, and family. Mr. and Mrs. Clay Mashino and sister, Mrs. Joe Sylvester, drove to Pickstown, S.D., Saturday to spend Sunday with their sister, Mrs. Earl Hoy, and to visit old friends. Itebekah Meeting— Eden Rebekah lodge No. 41 met Friday, May 2nd with 19 mem bers present. Lunch hostesses were Mrs. Richard Hovey and Mre. Clay Johnson, r. Seasonal Run on Cattle, Hogs There will be between 150 and 250 cattle on the market to day (Thursday) at the regular weekly sale at the O’Neill Live stock Market—where buyers and sellers meet every Thursday. The offering will include the normal seasonal run of all kinds, but most of the offering will be replacement cattle. Hog sale will start at 1 p. m., with about 100 head of feed er pigs. On Monday Donald took his sister, Mrs. Snyder, and his mother to Omaha where the latter was ad mitted to the Universry hospital for a medical checkup and pos sible major surgery. The Kor nocks were supper guests Sunday of. his uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Otto Kloth. at Wisner on their return trip to Page. . . Frank Crank contracted the mumps the latter part of last week. The older victims seem to entertain the malady longer and be more miserable than those of school age. . . Herman Dimmitt, 68, submitted to intestine surgery this week at St. Anthony's. His condition is “serious *. . . Pat ricia, daughter of Mr. and Mrs Pete Sojka, had the misfortune to fall from a fence and break her right arm Saturday. Tenn., broke her right leg in a bicycle mishap Apnl 23 The twins, Jo Marie and Jan Melanie were victims of the red measles epidemic at the same time. . . George Clasey and son, LeRoy, left Tuesday for Car roll, la-, where his mother, Mi's. Anna Clasey, is reported to be seriously ill in a hospital there. Mrs. Clasey has made her home for some time with her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. G. B Godsey. LYNCH-Mr. and Mrs Peter Chvala and family visited Pete's mother a t Verdigre Monday, April 27. “Grandma” Chvala, who is 96-years-old, was moved to the Creighton hospital and is now "feeling much better”. . . Mr, and Mrs. Leonard Havranek and family went to Niobrara Sunday. April 26, to visit Elmer Hull on his 82d birthday anniversary. . Mr. and Mrs. Veldon Lee and sons spent Saturday at the Bill Stouffer home VENUS — Mrs. Harry Caskey was admitted to St. Anthony's Monday, April 28, and the follow ing day submitted to major sur gery. . . Mrs Donald Kinnisson last week stepped on a nail which penetrated the sole of her shoe. The injury is healing nicely. . . Members of the Donald Caskey family have been having a seige of flu, Mr. Caskey and Sharlyn were "quite ill” Wednesday, April 30. CELIA — Mrs. Victor Frickel came home last week from an Omaha hospital where she had been a patient . Mrs. Ralph Armold was a surgical patient Wednesday morning. April 30, in the Atkinson hospital. Her daugh ter, Peggy, was an overnight guest that day at the LeRoy Hoffman home. O'NEILLr Sandy Paulsen has measles. Gary Paulsen had them , last week.
