Joint Meeting—
ATKINSON The March meet
ing of the Holt county Ameriear
Legion and auxiliary was held
Monday evening in the Legior
hall at Atkinson with Farley
Tushla as host and hostess. Meet
ing in a joint session, the groups
were entertained by Jim Gilg,
son of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence
Gilg of Atkinson, who presented
his oration "I Hear America
Singing", which won him second
place in the district American
Legion oratorical contest. Harold
Rice, district commander of Ne
light, also addressed the group.
Following the joint session, the
lagion and auxiliary held separ
ate meetings with Mrs. Laurence
Hamik of Stuart, county vice
president, presiding in the ab
sence of Mrs. Robert Lowery of
O Neill, who is county president.

Mr. and Mrs. William O'Con
nor visited Sunday in Royal with
their son-in-law and daughter,
Mr. and Mrs. Bud Van Fleet, and
daughter, Veronica.
Mr. and Mrs. Woodrow Grimm
and Mrs. Cora Wilkenson of Oma
ha spent the weekend at the Ray
mond Wilkenson home and visi
ted other relatives.
Mr. and Mrs. Duane Miller
were Sunday guests of Mr. and
Mrs. Frank Diehl of Bassett.
A crippled children’s clinic
will be held Saturday, March 29,
at Ainsworth. Registration starts
at 7 a.m.
Airman Durre
Accorded Honor
EWING Three highly coveted
awards were earned by airmen
of the 432d tactical reconnais
s;ince wing last month at Shaw
air force base in South Carolina.
One of the recipients was A/lc
Donald A. Durre, son of Mr. and
Mrs. Ernest Durre of Twing.
He is shown in the accompany

tificate as an honor graduate of
the non - commissioned officers’
preparatory academy. The pre
sentation is txang made by Col.
Harold F. Wilson, base com
mander.
Colonel Wilson said: "The air
force is in need of men of Air
man Durre's calibre.”
W. E. Shrader is
Guest of Honor—
W. E. Shrader, who lives near
Ewing, was honored Sunday at
a dinner to celebrate his birthday
anniversary. The affair was held
at the home of his daughter and
husband, Mr. and Mrs. Gerald
Wetlaufer of O’Neill.
Others present were Mrs. E.
W. Shrader, Mr. and Mrs. Willie
Shrader and family, Mr. and
Mrs. Archie Johnson and family
and Alice and Eddy Shrader, all
of Ewing.
Mr. and Mrs. Carl Christon of
Denver, Colo., were Saturday
callers of Mr. and Mrs. Harrison
Bridge.
