PAGE Holt ACP Funds Less Than in ’57 More Conservation Foreseen The 1958 cost-sharing agricult u r a 1 conservation program i ACP) will place special emphas is on practices which provide long-term benefits and tie in with production adjustment, according to Harry E. Ressel, chairman of the Holt county ASC committee He said that the county pro gram has now been announced -- and that a letter has been sent to every farmer in the county an nouncing the program for 1958 the same as in past years This program includes 19 pract ices capable of meeting all of the most common conservation pro blems found in Holt county. All but one of the 19 practices are the kind which give returns over a period of years. This single exception is a seeding practice to estabish a temporary' cover on and which is to be planted. Holt county's allocation of ACP funds for making cost-shar ing conservation payments for 1958 is $96,081. which is $6,978 less than was received last year. Chairman R e s s e 1 expain ed that plans are b e i ng still greater amount of conservat ion in this county than was ac complished last year even though the amount of funds available toi share costs is less that was avail able last year. Major accomplish ments under the 1957 program were the construction of 8.586 linear feet of terraces. 143 acres of blowout control. 887 acres of stripcropping, 19 erosion control and livestock water dams cons tructed 15 acres of cropland level ed, 84 wells developed for live stock water, 379 acres were plant ed in a permanent cover, 199 acres of. trees were planted, and legumes and grasses in crop rot ation system were increased by 8859 acres “Your request for federal cost sharing must be filled with the Holt county ASC committee on or before March 21 if you desire as sistance in carrying out practices numbered 17, 18, 20, 22. 26 and | 31," Ressel said.
