Chosen to Study
1 German in Sehool—
Jeannie Simmons, daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Simmons of
Hastings, is one of 12 students
at Longfellow elementary school
in Hastings who has been chosen
to learn conversational German
in a pilot project designed for
first second and third grades.
This intergration of a foreign
language into the Hastings
schools at the elementary level is
part of the school's administrat
ion plans for an enriched pro
gram.
This is strictly at the experi
mental level to see what kind of
program can be set up in the
future. Little Jeannie, a third
grader, was the only student
chosen from her class. Her older
I sister wrote a composition to the
World Herald several years ago
and won a pony. They are the
granddaughters of Mr. and Mrs.
Joe Sobotka, sr., of O'Neill.

Italloon Falls
in Hay Meadow—
While visitng her parents, Mr.
and Mrs Lous Demaray of Elgin
last week, Mr. and Mrs. William
Fritz of O’Neill had quite an ex
perience.
While out feeding the cattle
Saturday, the men spotted a
large while balloon about 40 feet
in diameter, coming down in the
meadow. As it reached the
ground, an explosion occurred
and frightened the cattle.
A cable was attached to the
bottom, but there was no identi
fication. It looked as if something
had been servered from the bal
loon.
