Atkinson, died Wednesday, No
vember 27 at Brookhaven, Pa.

Survivors include: Widow —
Fi ances L. McGrane Milner of
Atkinson; sisters Miss Barbara
Milner of Atkinson and Mrs. De
waine Ulrich of Stuart.
The late Mr Milner was a son
of the late Fred and Mary Ziska
Milner. He was bom June 20,
1895, and was graduated from At
kinson high school in 1914.
Ho served in the balloon ob
servation corps during World
W at I and spent most of his life
in Atkinson.
Seek Inclusion of
Holt in Great
Plains Program
The Holt soil conservation dis
trict Ixmrd of supervisors will
meet today (Thursday) in the
courthouse annex to conduct reg
ular business.
In cooperation with the exten
sion agent and unit conservation
ist, the !x>ard will make plans for
their 1958 educational program.
On Tuesday, December 17, the
entire hoard will go to Broken
Bow to participate in an area
meeting of the State Association
of Soil Conservation districts
A soil conservation district
board members, FHA supervisors,
county chairmen of ASC com
mittee, extension agent and unit
conservationist have sent a letter
to the state conservationist re
questing that Holt be included in
the great plains program.
According to word received
from H. G. Bobst, state conserva

viewed by the state program1 |
committee and forwarded to
Washington for approval. Wash- |
ington approvals are made quart- "
erly and Holt county will be |
considered shortly after January '
1, 1958. j
The great plains program has "
been set up under public 1021 and i
allows cost sharing of needed con \
servation practices for a contract i
periods of from three years to 10 [
years. ! i
The contract covers the deve- |
lopment of a complete conserva
tion plan on an individual farm or I
ranch basis.
Sixty counties in Nebraska have |
been designated in the Great
Plains area, but the program has i
been set up for only 35 of these as 1
designated by the state program |
committee. !
If Holt county is approved, more I
details on the plan will be made ]
available as they develop locally. I

CHAMBERS The Woman’s So
ciety of Christian Service met
Thursday, December 5, at the
Methodist church with Mrs. Ray
Beed and Mrs. Glenn Grimes
hostesses. There were 23 mem
bers and one visitor present.
The first of the study lesson
on "Disciples to Such a Lord" was I
presented by Rev. Harold Bonath.
The business S(*ssion was in
charge of the president, Mrs.
Darrel Gillette A report on the '
World Federation of Methodist
Women was given by Mrs. Guais
Wintermote.
Lunch was served by the hos
tesses.

Annual Yule Party

Garden club held its annual
Christmas party at the home of1
Mrs. J. W. Walter Wednesday.

Pickup Overturns i

was driver of a vehicle that 1
struck loose gravel about 9:15 i
p.m., Wednesday one mile south "
of O’Neill 114 miles west. The
pickup, eastbound. upset in the
ditch on the soufTT side of the
county road.
Keith McKim was a passenger.
Neither was hurt. State Patrol
man Eugene Hastreiter said dam
age amounted to approximately
5150. The top was smashed, also
the right door.

A nativity scene was unveiled
A covered dish supper preceeded
evening at First Methodist church,
and lighter with ceremony Sunday
the unveiling and a sing of carols
followed.
TRAIN IS TARDY
The westbound Chicago &
North Western passenger-mail
express train 13 Monday was five
hours late reaching O’Neill The
delay was blamed on locomotive,
trouble at Omaha.
Mrs. Emil Statsman
LYNCH — Mrs. Emil (Ruth' j
Statsman, 62, died Thursday in
Sacred Heart hospital. She enter
ed the hospital October 30. Sur
vivors include her husband.
ATKINSON Sandra Gettert. 4
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Floyd
Gettert. last week started a ser
ies of anti-rabies shots. She was
bitten by a skunk.
