James Svatos and Mrs. Mary Fusch will look after the chores at the farm dur ing their absence. Mr. and Mrs. John Goodenrath of Grand Island spent several days here visiting at the Kalk owski homes. The Lynch seniors plan to! have their pictures taken at O’ Neill Thursday, Ootoher 10. Mrs. Frank Weeder went to -"-( Grand Island Thursday, October 3, where she met her son, Carl, who had spent sev eral days visit ing friends in Arizona. Mr. and Mrs. Mel Lueken were Spencer visitors Sunay. Mr and Mrs. James Maly, sr., and Mrs. Joe Slechta, sr., called at the James Maly, jr., home in O'Neill Sunday. Vince Jehorek left for San Diego, Calif.. Thursday, October 3, where he plans to spend the winter with his son, Albert, and family. Mr. and Mrs. Bob Connelley and son of Lincoln .spent the weekend at the Martin Jehorek home. Mr. and Mrs. Joe Halva were in Spencer Sunday. Scavenger Hunt at Searles Home— The Grattan Flats 4-H club met at the Searles home Saturday evening, September 28. for the annual picnic supper. All mem bers were present and all except one of the parents. They gather ed for supper on the lawn. Weather was rather chilly and and windy l>ut seemed to improve appetites. Mdml>ers and their dads were divided into groups and they be gan a scavenger hunt. The 4-Hers, were given a list of three articles to find. The Frontier stated that her father, the late Ed ward Joseph, was a New York policeman. He was a real estate broker and at one time was associated with five real estate corporations. At the time of his death he served in an administ rative capacity in a leading firm. He was also a professonal engin eer and spoke five languages. Named Business Manager— Miss Ellen Corkle, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James M. Corkle, has been appointed business manager of the "New Leaven", the campus publication at St. Mary college, Xavier, Kans. Miss Corkle, a junior at the college, is a graduate of St. Mary’s academy. They watched the world series on tele vision. Mrs. W. P. Hiltabrand of Bos ton, Mass., left Sonday after visit ing her sister, Mrs. Mabel Mc Kenna, who accompanied her to Sioux City. Miss Marilu Wilson was home for the weekend from the Uni versity of Nebraska. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ed Wilson. William W. McIntosh took his mother, Mrs. Maude McIntosh of Meadow Grove, to Omaha Tuesday where his mother consulted medi cal specialists. Mr. and Mrs. Richard Smith and infant daughter, who reside on East Adams st., will move No vember 1 to Huron, S. D. They have been residing here six months. Mr. Smith is a federal employee in map work. The Smiths returned Sunday from a vacation in southern Minnesota. Miss Mary Elizabeth Gat? visited her parents, Mr. and Mrs C. J. Gatz, for the weekend. She is a student at St. Mary’s college in Omaha. Her cousin, Eddie Gatz, was also home from Creighton university in Omaha.
