Jamey Gunter was released from the Neligh hospital Wednes day, May 8, and was taken to the Will Shrader home for a few days. He was taken for a check up Friday and he was alright. Mr. and Mrs. Will Shrader, Eddy and Alice took Johnny and Jamey to their home in Crook ston Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Will Shrader stayed for a longer visit at the Verl Gunter home. . . Mr. and Mrs. Bill Fry accompan ied Otto Retke to Norfolk Sat urday to visit Mrs. Retke in the hospital there. Her condition is “improved”. . . Bert Finks re ceived word that Eldon Fink was badly hurt about the face when the car jack gave way while he was working under the car. He suffered a broken nose and cheek bones. He had moved with his family to California just a few weeks ago. . . Mrs. Grant Mott took her father, Frank Wonder check, back to the Tilden hospital Saturday evening. He is suf fering from a bloodclot in his leg. His daughter, Nancy, of Newport and John Deringer of Plattsmouth spent the weekend ' at the Mott home. Mrs. James Rotherham, who under went surgery recently at St. An thony’s, is making “satisfactory” progress. . . Mrs. Alta Meyers has returned to her home in Ewing. She has been convalescing from a recent operation at the home of her son, Richard, and family at Clearwater and with her daughter, Mary, and family at O’Neill. . . Mrs. Sis Ebbengaard , has been suffering a strep throat 1 the past few days. O’NEILL — Mrs. Theodore Strong went to Sioux City Mon day where she submitted to sur- | gery Wednesday at the Lutheran j hospital. . . Gertrude Howard j was admitted to St. Vincent’s hospital in Sioux City Monday . . . Mrs. Arnie Mace, jr., went to Neligh Monday to see her father, C. E. Brittell, who is a patient at the Antelope Memorial hospital. Mr. Brittell, a former Chambers resident, entered the hospital Sunday. . . Dick Laursen will return to Sioux City for treatment on his leg. AMELIA — Mrs. Charles Ed- j wards returned home Sunday from Atkinson Memorial hospit al. Her infant son, Russell Dean, was not able to come home until Tuesday. . . Mrs. Bob Adair and infant daughter, Dianne Marie, returned to their home Tuesday after visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Art Doolittle, since their release from the Atkinson hos pital. . . Harold Fullerton took Mrs. Bertha Sammons to O’Neill Thursday to see her doctor. CHAMBERS—Mrs. Carrie Hol loway was ill the first of the week. Mrs. Holloway, who is 94, makes her home with her son in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Louis Neilson. Tom jaek went to Omaha Tuesday, May 7, and returned Sunday. She was assisting her daughter, Mrs. Gene Ray, and family. Mrs. Ray recently submitted to major surgery. VENUS—Three small sons of Mr. and Mrs. Francis Montgom ery underwent tonsilectomies Friday, May 10, in a Norfolk hospital. DORSEY—Mrs. H. H. Miles is again in the hospital in Lincoln Johnson Haight Face Knox Charges Kenneth E. Johnson, 21, of Plainview and Clarence A. Haight, 24, of Butte were arrest ed Thursday by Police Chief John N. Schmit. Haight was fined $25 and $4 costs for operating a vehicle without a driver’s license. Mr. Held, fanner living 20 miles east of O’Neill, said John son and Haight rifled his parked car while he was plowing in a field. Held gave chace. Schmit found a tire and wheel jack, wrenches and chains which Held had reported stolen. Johnson was taken to Center Saturday by the Knox county sheriff to face larceny charges. Haight was turned over to Knox authorities Wednesday to face the same charges. New Machine To Be Demonstrated— A new machine has been placed on the market that wil take a lot of the work out of cultivating trees. In cooperation with the Harry R. Smith Implements of O’Neill, the Holt soil conservation district is holding a demonstration of this tree cultivator on the A. T. Crumly farm, located eight miles east of the northeast corner of O’Neill on the Page-O’Neill high way. The demonstration will be held Tuesday, May 21, beginning at 2 p. m. EWING—Thirteen eighth grade students of the Ewing public school toured points in interest in O’Neill. Mrs. Anne Asher spent Wed nesday, May 8, in Norfolk. Ross, of the United Presbyterian church delivered the baccalaur eate sermon for the senior class at the school auditorium on Sun day evening, May 12. His theme “Your All for Christ.” Rev. P. F. Burke gave the in vocation and benediction. The girls’ trio—Ruth Scott, Janell Hoke and Virginia Mc Donald—sang a song; Ray Tur ner sang “The Lord’s Prayer”. Jannell Hoke and Virginia Mc Donald were accompanists. VEHICLES COLLIDE Vehicles driven by Miss Mary L. Luebcke, 15, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gerhardt Luebcke of Page, and Warren Cronk, also of Page, collided at an intersection on a county road 1% mies north and one mile east of Page about 4:20 p. m., Friday, May 10. Miss Luebcke was driving on a school permit and was on her way home from school. The left side of the Luebcke car and the front end of the Cronk car were both damaged to the extent of $100. They recalled they had attended a vaudeville show one evening and while he was escorting her home in a top buggy the proposal was offered. Ten days later they were ; married at her father’s home, five miles west of Pierre. They kept house on a farm | seven miles west of Pierce for three years and their oldest child, Earl, was born there. Later they farmed near Valley and in 1920 they moved onto a ranch near I Emmet, where they resided seven years. Between 1927 and 1952 they lived on several different ranches in the O’Neill area, mov ing into O’Neill in retirement five years ago. The Strongs have nine chidren: Sons—Earl and William, both of O’Neill; daughters—Mrs. Merle (Lottie) Conley of Midwest, Wyo.; Mrs. William (Alfreda) Perry, Mrs. Albert (Mae) Dennis and Mrs. Lettie Calkins Tucker, all of O’Neill, and Mrs. Joseph (Mar tha) Prokop of Omaha. There are 29 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. One daughter, Mrs. Herbert (Daisy) Urban of O’Neill, is de ceased. Ewing high school alujmni ban quet, Tuesday, May 28. Tickets: $1.50. Ewing school auditorium. Please make reservations early. H. F. Plank, 75, Burial at O’Neill Funeral services for H. F. Plank. 75, of Spearfish, S. D., who died Thursday. May 9, at Spearfish, were conducted at 2 p m., Tuesday, May 14, at First Presbyterian church here. Burial was in Prospect Hill cemetery near the grave of his wife, the former Ella Mae Shaw, who died in 1952. Rev. J. Olen Kennell officiat ed. Biglin's were in charge of arrangements. The couple was married Oc tober 10, 1911 at Neligh. They had no children. Mr Plank was a mortician and furniture dealer for 35 years. He retired in 1936.
