Reverend Meyer* Will Not Return AMELIA—The board of trust ees of the Methodist church met at the home of Mrs. Edith An derson Monday evening This was the final meeting of the church year before the annual conference. Rev. Harry Meyers, who has been serving the Chamebers and Amelia churches for the past year, told the board he would not be able to return to this pastorate next year because of plans to attend school. Dr. LaV'ern Jay of O’Neill, district superintendent, will be at the Methodist church here Sunday evening, May 12, to apeak and show films taken on their trip to Hawaii. There will be lunch and a social hour. The Methodist youth fellow ship had a weiner roast at the home of their sponsor, Mrs. Lloyd Waldo, on Thursday eve ning. Vern Sageser, accompanied by his mother, Mrs. M. L. Sageser, also Mrs. Ralph Reis and Mrs. Lew Baekhaus went to O’Neill Wednesday, May 1, to attend an REA meeting. Vern was reelect ed a director for this district. Mrs. Tommie Doolittle, Mrs. Stella Sparks and Mrs. Eldon Ballagh helped Mrs. Jim Bil stein do some papering last Thursday. Mrs. Lew Baekhaus and Mrs. Link Sageser went to O’Neill last Thursday. They purchased baby chicks while there. Miss Sharon Prewitt went to Atkinson Friday to take eighth grade examinations. Jeanette Clemens went to Chambers to take the exams. Mrs. Margie Sammons and Mrs. Blake Ott were O’Neill cal lers Tuesday, April 30. Mrs. Alice Prewitt, Janice and Sharon spent Sunday with Mrs. Edith Andersen. k Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Berry, Mrs. Stella Sparks and Lonnie went fishing at Holt creek Sun day. Mrs. Weaver Brotherton of Greeley, Cok>., returned to her home Monday after a visit with her sister, Mrs. Margie Sam mons, here and with her par ent*, Mr. and Mrs. Ned Alder son, at Chambers. Lonnie Sparks visited Ronnie Thompson Saturday. Mrs. Elsie Doolite ha* been hired to teach in the grade school in Atkinson next term. She taught the second grade in Chambers the past term. Raymond Wickham visited his daughter, Raedee, at the Frank Pierce home Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Reis were O’Neill callers Satruday. Mr. and Mr*. Paul Johnston the weekend with her parents, and son, Mark, of Lincoln spent Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Peterson. Mr. Johnston returned to Lin coln Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Barnes and family of Scottsbluff visited Sunday with Mrs. Etta Ott and were dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Blake Ott. Mrs. Helen Pokomy, Donnie and Edyfthe went to Osmond to visit Mr. and Mrs. Gene Schmit. Mrs. Schmit is the former Elsie Pokorny. Miss Phillis Fullerton attend ed the Methodist youth rally in O'Neill Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Johnston went to O’Neill Sunday after noon to attend the dedication of the new Methodist manse for the district superintendents. To Wed May I 9 Mr. and Mrs. Edd Stewart of Page announce the engage ment and approaching mar riage of their daughter, Miss Sherry Kay, (above) to How ard O. Hill, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ray Hill of Orchard. Miss Sherry is employed at San Jose, Calif., and “H. O.”, as he is referred to in familiar circles, is in the navy at Mof fet air base. The wedding date has been announced as May 19 at the Page Methodist church. Engaged to Doctor Mr. and Mrs. B. C. Eng ler of Stuart announce the en gagement of their daughter, Miss Patricia Jean (above) to Dr. John Waken of Enid, Okla. Miss Engler is a graduate of St. Joseph school of nursing, Oma ha, and is now employed by Mrs. DeMagnus and Kerber at Glendale, California. Doctor Waken is a graduate of Creigh ton university, Omaha, and has taken his internship at Los An geles county hospital, Los An geles. Calif. He is now with the navy at Formosa. No definite date has been set for the wed ding. O'Neill Seniors Off to Lincoln on Sneak The senior class of O’Neill public school went to Lincoln for their sneak day Thursday, April 18. Willard H. Solfermoser, prin ipul, Miss Viola Haynes, class advisor, Thomas L. Liddy and Marvin Johnson, parents, ac companied the class. The itinerary included guides through the state hospital, Mor rill hall, penitentiary, -capital and Robert’s Dairy. They ate at Gold’s cafeteria. Because of their study of American prob lems, the class appreciated the state hospital and its problems. To Grand Chapter— EWING—Mr. and Mrs. John A. Wood will go to Lincoln next week where they will attend the grand chapter meeting of the Ord er of Eastern Star. The affair will be held in Pershing Memorial auditorium, starting Tuesday and lasting three days. Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Ruzicka spent Sunday in Clarkson, visit ing his father, Anton Ruzicka. ' SMA Seniors Have Look at Chicago The seniors of St. Mary’s a cademy left for Chicago, 111,, Friday by bus and car for Sioux City, where they boarded a train. They saw “The Seven Won ders qf the World" in Cinema scope and went through the museum of Science and Industry. They tcok a guided bus tour of Chicago which included the Loup. Skid Row, Merchandise Mart, where they had luncheon, Union Station, the airport the Shore drive and the business district. The temperature was 47 de grees. Mr. and Mrs. Ed Hoag are back again after spending several days with their son and daughter-in 1 law. Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Hoag, and family at Omaha. Miss Joellyn Hacker of Louis ville spent the weekend with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Eaeker. Guests at tin home of Mr and Mrs. Ralph Eaeker on Sunday were his brother and wife, Mr. and Mrs. John Eaker, of Broken Bow, who were accompanied by their daughter, Mrs. Lyle Crosby of Spalding. Mrs. Eva Kaczor returned home Friday from the home of her son, Eddie Kaczor, and family, where she had been assisting during the illness of Mrs. Eddie Kaczor. Mrs. Van Conet and daughter, Nettie, were O'Neill visitors on Sunday. Leave for California— Mr. and Mrs. Lyle Lawler and family left Friday for San : Bernardino, Calif., to visit rel j atives and friends. ■ Mrs. Marlin Wickman and ' children visited Sunday with her parents, Mr. and Mrs Ed Bouska of Atkinson.
