O’Neill to Share
Class B Tourney
Four teams will compete a*
O’Neill and four wrill compete at
Chadron for finalist berths in the
district Claiss B tourney this year,
according to the Nebraska High
School Activities association.
Games will be played simul
taneously at both places during
the week of February 25.
Finals will be played Friday,
March 1, at Valentine.
Assigned to the O’Neill portion
are Ainsworth, Bassett, Neligh
and O’Neill. Competing at Chad- j
ron will be Chadron high, Craw
ford, Gordon and Hemingford.
Pairings, dates and times for
the show will be fixed at Val
entine this weekend. Officials al
so will be named.
The district meet was split be
cause of tile vast distances in
volved. Heretofore, O’Neill us
ually has been the site of class
B competition.
Atkinson will be host to the
-lass C tourney. Competing
teams will be Atkinson high, St.
Joseph’s hall of Atkinson, St.
Mary’s of O’Neill, Verdigre,

county champs, the St. Mary’s
academy Cardinals, 61-52, on the
Pirates’ floor.
Backers of both teams were
treated to a well-played, hard
fought and perfectly officiated
game, plus a sensational scoring
duel between the Pirates’ Don
Edwards and St. Mary’s Jim
Becker.
Edwards scored 25 points on

Dies Suddenly
ATKINSON Henry Gottchalk
of Silverton. Ore, died suddenly
Wednesday. January 30, while
helping his brother, Herman,
with some work. He was the son
of Mr and Mrs. Frit/ Gottschalk.
Tin- late Mr. Gottschalk mar
ried Mollie Schwindt in 1928 in
Atkinson She died March 4,
1945.
They lived in the Celia com
munity on a farm, where he was
reared. When their oldest girl
was ready for high school, they
moved into Butte.
About eight years ago ho and
children moved to Oregon, where
he lived at the time of his death.
Funeral services were held
Tuesday, February 5, in St.
John s Lutheran church at 2 p.m.
Survivors include: son — Ivan
of Silverton, Ore.; daughters—
Mrs. L. C. Bergerson of Silverton;
Mrs. John Wolf and Mrs. Rudy
Haskins, both of Phoenix, Ariz.;
four grandchildren; brothers—■
Fix'd and Herman; sister — Mrs.
Louise Johns, all of Silverton.

Mother’s Burial
EWING — Funeral services
were, conducted Monday, Feb
ruary 4. at 10:30 am., in St.
Michael’s Catholic church at
Spalding for Mrs. Jacob Bauer,
67, who died Thursday, January
31, in St. John's Memorial hos
pital.
Mrs. Bauer had been in ill
health for about three years and
had reentered the hospital fol
lowing a stroke, which she had
suffered before her death.
She was bom at Ewing on May
