The Frontier SPORTS George Haun Sparks Ainsworth Victory Smoothie Accounts for 18 Points A smooth one - man basketball machine by the name of George Ilaun was the decisive factor Fri day night at the Ainsworth high Bulldogs rilled to a 60-32 victory over the O’Neill high Eagles in a North - Central Nebraska con ference game. The first period was played on fairly even terms with Ainsworth holding a 15-12 advantage. Haun lired four fielders in the second period to stretch the Bulldogs’ lead to 13 points. Going into the final stanza the visitors were in front by 24 points. Coach Bill Edwards Eagles had trouble jarring anybody loose in the scoring column. Fred Eby, forward, paced the pack with a skimpy six to compare with Haun’s 18. The O'Neill reserves fashioned a 34-29 victory, however, over the Ainsworth seconds with Jerry Schaaf and Bob Eby pumping in nine apiece. The Albion high Cardinals finished strong, notably at the freethrow line and won over the O’Neill high Eagles, 40 36. /\unon Dum a t-z iirst period lead with two fielders by Dick Stillengen. O’Neill moved ahead in the second period and never re linquished until the closing min utes. Three long heaves that went wild during that period broke the Eagles’ back, because the Cardin als captalized on each misque, moved ahead and won it. Bob Young fired seven points in the second to spark the Eagles’ surge to the fronts Young potted two and rolled in a nifty yet unorthodox one to keep the Eagles in front during the third. The Blues led, 26-21, with three minutes remaining in the third. Four freethrows made it 30-24 at the end of the period. Albion’s Stillengen made five freethrows in the first three min utes of the final period. Albion finally went ahead, 33 32, with 5:45 minutes remaining in the game; later stretched it to 35-32. With five minutes remaining, it was Albion’s lead, 36-34. O’Neill’s captains muffed a technical gra tis shot apeice and that coupled with a wild pass sealed the win for Albion. Albion’s Howard Beckenhauer, a tall boy, added two freethrows, 38-34, and Fred Eby popped one in from the corner, 38-36, with one minute left. Beckenhauer, who had goofed five freethrows earlier, dropped a pair and that ended it, 40-36. Night before Albion was scut tled by Aurora while the Eagles were being punished by Ains worth Hardworking Bob Young pro duced 17 points to lead the scor ing effort for both teams. In a preliminary game, the O’ Neill vollyball gals defeated the Page girlies, 38-20.
