Retiring After Heading Boys’ Home— CHAMBERS— Felix Carpenter of Omaha is being honored Sat urday, September 22, with a chuck wagon lunch and open house at the Cooper stock farm, Omaha. Mr Carpenter has been farm manager and 4-H leader of the Omaha Home for Boys for the past 14 years He is retiring. His brother, E. R. Carpenter, and his sister, Mrs. Floyd Whit aker, also Mrs. Carpenter and Mr. Whitaker, plan to attend the affair arranged by the board of trustees. He is recov ering from an attack of rheumatic fever. When he returns to school h< will be in the eighth grade. . . Mrs. Edward Tellier went to Lin coln Sunday to get braces. . . W. C Whited was expected home on Wednesday from Douglas county hospital in Alexandria, Minn., where he had submitted to an emergency appendectomy while cn a fishing trip. . Ed Flood is home and “feeling fine.” He has to return to the Veterans hospital in Grand Island September 24 to have his eyes checked. . . Guy Cole was ill the first of the week. . . . Mrs. Letta Conrad is a patient at University hospital, Omaha. . . VENUS—Billy Walton, son ol the Cecil Waltons, underwent an appendicitis operation at the Lundberg Memorial hospital at Creighton on Wednesday, Sep tember 5. . . Leonard Reisinger accidently tore the ligiments in his leg while working cattle at his farm, Tuesday September 11. His father took him to Creighton for medical aid. CHAMBERS—Fred Smith fell a few days ago and was taken to Tilden for X-rays. No bones were broken but a nerve in his spine was injured. He is hospitalized in Tilden . . Mrs. Charles Fauquier, Mrs. A. B. Hubbard and Mrs. Fred Ermer visited Mrs. Ed White at the Atkinson hospital Monday. LYNCH — Willard Barta of Verdol came Saturday after his father, Otto Barta, who was dis missed from the Sacred Heart hospital. Mr. Barta had lost his ai m to above the elbow in a si lage cutter accident several days ago. RIVERSIDE—Mrs. Walter was on the sick list and was in Ne ligh for a medical checkup Fri day. . • Wilson Spangler has been home on sick leave from his work and is under a doctors care. ROCK FALLS — Mrs. Mamie O'Neill, who was ill last week, has been recuperating at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Blake Ben son, and is much better. LYNCH—Joe E. Slechta enter ed the Veterans hospital in Grand Island on Tuesday. He injured his back recently. EWING — Mrs. John Archer consulted a doctor in O’Neill Monday, September 10. Frosh Initiation Friday at Inman INMAN — Freshman initiation will be held on Friday, Septem ber 21, at Inman high. The fresh men will wear outfits -to school and will be formally initiated that evening. The public is invit ed. The senior class is in charge. The junior class has received playbooks and next week will begin working on the 3-act play, "Quit Your Kidding”. The Band has resumed prac tice, working on numbers for the fall’festival concert and parade. There are several beginners and there is hope of several more. Bergan, archbishop of the Omaha Roman Catholic diocese, will open the 3'2d annual convention of the Omaha Archdiocese Council of Catholic Women at St. Bernard’s church, Omaha, Tuesday, October 2. Attendance is expected to reach 1.500 with representatives from each of the deaneries: O’Neill, Albion, Creighton, Fremont, Hartington, Jackson, Lindsay, Norfolk, Omaha and West Point. Convention theme: ’’Know Christ, Live Christ.” After the convention officers will be honored at a tea at the St. James orphanage. Gideon Meeting Well Attended— The annual banquet and rally of the Gideons, a Christian busi nessmen’s association, was well attended at the Methodist church Friday evening, September 14. Gideons from five different Net braska camps and ministers from four towns gathered. Special singing included a duet by Rev and Mrs. E. E. Cum mings of Spencer and a solo by | A. L. Nyquist of Wausa. Rev. Glenn Kennicott extend ed the welcome. Maurice Kiemer, I state president of the Gideons, gave the address. Mr. and Mrs. Leon Asher of Omaha visited over the weekend with his mother, Mrs. Ann Asher.
