Recently it was ruled by the Nebraska attorney - general that county boards of supervisors could appropriate funds for local soil districts with a levy up to one-fourth of a mill. The county supervisors have allotted one thousand dollars for part-time clerical help for the fiscal year of 1957. Meanwhile, the SCD supervis ors have decided to enter the Sioux City permanent agriculture contest and set Monday, August 6, as the date for determining the three fanners or ranchers who will represent Holt in the Sioux City competition. Halva and daughter, Kathleen, arrived in O’Neill last Thursday to visit with Mr. Halva’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Victor Halva, until Sat urday. Mrs. Charlotte Honeywell re turned home Sunday from a vis it at the Seymore Harkins home. Mrs. Eva McCloud, who cares for Mrs. Honeywell .returned Sun day from a visit with relatives in Minnesota. The Better Ways extension club met Tuesday evening, July 17, at the home of Mrs. Wayne Smith with nine members pres ent. Also present were two vis itors, Mrs. George C. Smith of Chambers and her mother. Mrs. Kenneth Hunt of O’Neill. The lesson on “Your Friends, the Herbs,” was presented by Mrs. Lloyd Hilligas. Lunch was served. MARKET REPORT “The Old Reliable” Tucisday, July 24th AUCTION Cattle receipts: 456 head. Stockers and feeders followed closely the sharp advance In fat cattle prices this week and sold fully 75 cents to $1.(X) cwt. higher. Butcher cattle sold fully steady and were in strong demand on a market that reflected the most buyer interest to date. Only a fewr load lots present with the day’s top on loads going to Hex Coleman on fancy 740 lb. steers at 18.25. Other loads and part loads of steers from $17.50 to $19.00 cwt. Bulk of the heifers from $15.50 to $16.50, a few part loads of lightweights up to $17.00 cwt. A few two-year-old feeding heifers from $13.00 to $14.50 cwt. Butcher offerings were plentiful and found a good outlet at fully steady prices; beef cows, $10.50 to $12.00; commercial cows, $9.50 to $10.25 cwt. Canner and low cutter kinds, $8.25 to $9.25 cwt. Beef bulls, largely $13.00 to $14.00 cwt. Special Notice August 14 is the date of our First Special Carlot Auction of the Fall season.
