side funeral services were con
ducted at 11:30 a.m., Tuesday,
July 17, at St. Boniface cemetery.

three brothers and sisters; grand

Kaup and Mr. and Mrs. John
Hytrek.

went surgery on July 12 at Twin
Falls. Ida , where he is a pa
tient at the Magic Valley Me
morial hospital. . Dean Kimes,
who has been working at the
home of his brother-in-law.
Merle Filsinger, became ill Sat
, rdav afternoon and was taken
to the doctor, who diagnosed his
trouble as appendicitis. He enter
ed Antelope Memorial hospital
ihat evening and underwent sur
gery on Sunday morning. His
condition is reported •‘satisfac
tory." Mr and Mrs. R. G. Roekey
and Mrs. Willis Roekey went to
Neligh on Monday evening to
visit Willis Roekey at the Ante
lope Memorial hospital. He is
showing improvement from the
injuries received in a tractor ac
cident recently. . . Dr and Mrs
William H Ross went to Smith
Center. Kans., to visit his sister,
who fell recently and broke her
hip.
O'NEILL—Dale Perry, who in
jured his foot memorial day, had
the cast taken off Saturday.
Harry Lansworth, who submitted
to surgery at St. Vincent's hospi
tal, Sioux City, is ‘‘improving
slowly.” . Mrs. G. E Miles was
able to walk Sunday after an op
eration at St Vincent’s hospital,
Sioux City, Tuesday, July 10.
She is ‘‘doing well.” . . Mrs. Dick
Doiel, daughter of Mr and Mrs.
Sylvester Zakrzewski, is ill in the
Seward Memorial hospital. She
entered Friday. Mrs. Ralph
McKlvain went to Omaha Tues
day, July 10, for a checkup on
her arm. It is improving but is
not normal yet. She returned last
Thursday Miss Carol Fox,
who fell and broke her leg re
cently, is “improving” and ex
pects to be up in a wheel chaix
soon. . . Mrs G. E Miles will be
dismissed from a Sioux City
hospital today (Thursday) fol
lowing recent surgery.
LYNCH—Mrs. Joseph Mican
ek, sr., underwent major surgery
at Lynch hospital Wednesday,
July 11 She is reported pro
gressing “nicely.” . . Mrs. Martha
Schindler was dismissed from
the Lynch hospital Sunday, July
8 Her daughter, Mrs. Bessie
Walker of Washington state, ha>
been here for several weeks and
plans to remain to take care ol
her mother. Reports came to
Lynch friends of Mrs. Frank
Vomacka, sr, stating she suffered
a fractured pelvic bone in a fall
at her home in Gregory, S.D
Mrs. Vomacka is in a Sioux Falls,
S.D., hospital. The Vomackab

returned Friday evening from
St. Anthony’s hospital in O’Neill
where she had been a patient
since Tuesday, July 10, suffering
from a virus infection. . . Elwyr
Robertson went to Omaha Mon
day for a checkup of his arm
His mother, Mrs. C. V. Robertson,
accompanied him. Roland
Harvey and sister, Mrs. Donald
Green were called to Rochester
Minn., Saturday evening, July
14, by the serious illness of their
father, Ed Harvey. Last repoH
was that he was improved.
INMAN— Mrs. Ira L. Watson
drove to Omaha Monday, July It.
Tuesday, July 10, her daughter,
Carolyn, a student nurse at Im
manuel hospital, underwent mi
nor surgery on her hand. She
was able to return here with her
mother Tuesday evening and re
mained until Saturday when she
returned to Omaha to resume her
nurse’s training. . . Miss Helen
Sobotka, eldest daughter of Mr
and Mrs. James Sobotka, entered
St. Anthony’s hospital Wednes
day, July 11, where she under
went an appendectomy.

comb, Laverne and Beverly were
Burwell callers Monday where
Laverne consulted a doctor. .

Lake, submitted to an appendec
tomy at the Burwell hospital last

DELOIT — Mrs. Charles Mc
Donald was hospitalized last
week in Norfolk for the removal
of a toe. She was able to return
home the latter part of the week

tient in the Neligh hospital last
week. She was suffering with
throat infection. . . Mrs. Henry
Trennepohl was able to leave
the Antelope Memorial hospital
at Neligh on Friday, having un
dergone major surgery two weeks

NORFOLK—A Negro prison
er. not immediately identified,
escaped from a guard ih a truck
Wednesday afternoon while be
ing transferred from Niobrara to
the state penitentiary.
I iic Negro overpowered the
guard in a melee. The guard
tired and wounded the convict
in the back. However, the pris
oner escaped and authorities
were pressing a search at the
DeGroot orchard area about 10
miles south of Norfolk on U S.
highway 81. The Negro who
weighs about 250 pounds, es
caped with the guard's 32-calibre
pistol.
