Arra smith and boys of Spalding, for rr.erly of Grand Island and O' Neill, arrived Saturday to attend the Arlene Walters-Gene Libby wedding Sunday at the Assembly of God church They were guests of Mr. and Mrs. Ben Wetzler. Mr and Mrs. R. J. Byers of Omaha brought Mrs. C. E. Yantzi home Friday, June 15. She had visited them for a week. They visited Leonard Lorenz at the ■ "1 Veterans hospital while she was; in Omaha Mr and Mrs. J Robert Bengan were in Omaha Saturday and Sunday. Mr and Mrs. William Turner of Chambers called Sunday after noon on Mrs. Vannie Newman. Miss Kay McCarthy left last Thursday to spend a week or more in Omaha with her sister, Miss Beverly. Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Watson attended the funeral in PLainview Sunday of Leo Rehberg of Royal. Mr and Mrs Duane Summerer and family of Ewing were Sunday afternoon callers at the Weston 1 Whitwer home Mrs. Helen Rourke attended a meeting in Omaha. Mr. and Mrs. Dwayne Philbrick and Mr. and Mrs Joe Sivesind and their families held a picnic Sunday evening at Grove lake, north of Royal. Mr and Mrs. Leonard Honke and Patty of Omaha arrived on Monday to visit his mother, Mrs. Mildred Honke, and the John R Gallagher family. Overnight guests Wednesday, June 20, of Mrs Vannie Newman were Mrs. LaVonne Painter and daughter, Paula, of Clearwater, Fla. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Summers were in Norfolk Monday. Mr. and Mrs George Janousen left Saturday evening for a few days’ vacation in Minnesota. Their children stayed with their grand parents, Mr. and Mrs. Earl O. Cassel of Ainsworth. “Always the bridesmaid but never the bride," muttered Jasz kowiak when he hung up his cleats. H. J Lohaus won consolation ■ ionors in the championship flight at Ainsworth. Paul Walker won first flight consolation honors. Gordon Drayton of Orchard, member of the O’Neill Country club, captured second flight hon ors and Marv Johnson won sec ond flight consolation laurels. Bill Kelley was runnerup in the sixth flight. Other O’Neill golfers partici pating were Max Golden, Ben Gradv. Fred Appleby, Jim Ear ley, Fritz Yantzic, Ron Borg and John Conard. Service Promotions Robert ( 'Bob") Clements, son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Clements, has received a promotion at Low ry air force base at Denver, Colo, to technical sergeant. Bob, who reenlisted, has served five \ears with the air force. Clarence J. (“Junior”) Worth, son of Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Worth, to airman first class. He is serv ing in Japan. Jack Dempsey of Denver, Colo., was a weekend guest of Mr. and Mrs. Phillip Dempsey. SPORT NEWS Ainsworth Wins in 8-7 Thriller O’Neill’s Tying Run Dies on Third The Ainsworth entry in the North-Central day - and - night league defeated the O’Neill Roek etse, 8-7. Sunday night in a thriller at Ainsworth. O'Neill went ahead in the first when Dick Tibbetts scored on Maynard Morrow’s single. Ains worth tied the score in the sec ond on Lacy’s single after Stolt enberg walked. O'Neill went ahead again in the third on singles by Tibbetts, Player-Manager I>iek Tomlin son and Darel Graham. Ainsworth took command in the fourth. 4-3, on Staab's double with the bases full. (Staab is Ainsworth high’s new football coach.) The count was tied again, 4- all, in the seventh on Lowell Nesbitt’s single, two stolen bases, and Morrow's long fly. Two singles in the last half of the seventh and an O’Neill error enabled Ainsworth to take a one point lead, 5-4, but the Rockets bounded back to tie it up again, 5- 5, in the first of the eighth on singles by Morrow and Fritz Holz Ainsworth jumped to an 8-5 lead in the ninth on three hits and an O’Neill bobble. O’Neill started the ninth with a triple by Tomlinson, who scored on Nesbitt’s double off the cen terfield wall. Nesbitt scored on Graham's single. The Rockets had the tying score, Graham, on third, but he died there. Tomlinson got three hits in four trips to lead the Rockets Batteries; Ainsworth — Staab and Clark; O’Neill—Larry Heiss and Jerry McGinn. O’Neill entertained Spalding on Wednesday night, June 27, in an outside of the league game and the Rockets will entertain Ains worth here Sunday night in a bonus game which will not figure in league standings. \Deckers Hosts— Dinner ana supper guests Sun day at the Art Noecker home were Mr. and Mrs. Reinold Beck er of Hartington and Mr. and Mrs. Don Becker and family, Mr. and Mrs. Don Marx and family and Mr and Mrs. Dick Valondoeren of Sioux City. Mary Becker, who had spent the past two weeks in the Noecker home, returned to Hartington with her parents. ■ — ■1 T—mm Buff Track Star Practices Hurdles Larry Chace, former O'Neill high athlete who just finished an outstanding sophomore year at Colorado U. as a dash man, is working out daily at home this summer. In addition to keeping in trim on the sprints, he is prac ticing 80-yard low hurdles. He is also playing baseball with the Butte town team "I guess they got tired of haul ing me BOO miles in any direction to make one short run."
