Mr and Mrs. Graydon Hutton and family left Wednesday morning, May 23, for Glacier national park where they will spend the summer vacation after visiting in the T D. Hutton home a few days. Miss Frances Rotherham of Ewing was a dinner guest in the James McMahan home on Wed nesday evening, May 23. Later she accompanied the McMahans to Page where all attended a postmasters' get-to-gether at the home of Postmaster and Mrs. B. H Stevens. Coach and Mrs. Robert Loom er and sons, James Coventry and Fred Appleby of O’Neill took the Inman high school baseball club to Lincoln on Wednesday where thev played Springfield and were defeated 2-3 in a 12 inning marathon The boys returned home Thursday evening. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Burg strorn and family of Worthing ton, Minn spent several days the past week visiting in the homes of Mr. and Mrs. Karl Keyes and Mr and Mrs. Donald Keyes and other relatives. Mr. and Mrs. Milton McKath nie and family of Atkinson and Walter Rouse of St. Paul spent several days the past week visit ing their mother, Mrs. Blanch Rouse, and brother, Marvin. Mr. and Mrs. Earl Miller spent several days the past week vis iting their son and daughter-in law. Mr. and Mrs. M. M. Mrs. Dora Townsend went to Hartington on Tuesday, May 22, where she spent the week in the home of her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Weir, where she expected to participate in the program pre sented at the grand lodge of the Rebekahs in convention there. Mr. and Mrs. Keith Shelton and son of McCook were over night guests of their aunt, Mrs. Celia Terrill, on Tuesday, May 22, and were supper guests of Mr. and Mrs. Otto Terrill. They were enroute from Lincoln where they consulted medical advice for their son back to their home. Guests from Duchesne College— Miss Mary Ellen Froelich was hostess at a swimming party and luncheon Saturday at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Froelich. Her guests were 16 classmates at Duchesne college in Omaha. They returned to Omaha the same day. Lynch Alumni Banquet Held— LYNCH — The Lynch school alumni banquet was held Tues day, May 29, at the Lynch ball room. Almost 300 places were laid. Mrs. Rich ards and Mrs. Neilson are cousins. Last Thursday morning, Mrs. Neilson’s mother, Mrs. Carrie Holloway, who is 93-years-old, was taken for her first plane ride by Mr. Rinehards. Mr. and Mrs. Neilson, Mrs. Hol loway and Mr. and Mrs. Richards on Wednesday, June 23, called on Myron Carpenter and last Thurs day visited the Clyde Kiltz and Herman Cook families before leaving for Salina, Kans., where his brother and sister-in-law live. Mr. Richards planned to go on to Wichita, Kans., to purchase a larger plane. Wheat Allotment Deadline July 16 Farmers on land on which no wheat was seeded for grain for any of the years 1954, 1955 and 1956 may apply for a 1957 wheat acreage allotment, according to Harry E. Ressel, chairman of the Holt county agricultural stabiliza tion and conservation committee. Mr. and Mrs. George Beatty and Mr. and Mrs. Richard Beatty and family, all of Madison, were Sunday dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. William McIntosh and fam ily Mrs. Ben Batterman of Oiis, Colo, returned to her home after visiting her sister, Mrs. Lura Wright, recently. Mrs, Edna Jackson Burial at Valentine PAGE — Funeral services for Mrs. Edna Hobson Jackson, 63, were held Sunday afternoon, May 27, from the Methodist church at Valentine with Rev. James K. Irwin officiating. Mrs. Jackson suffered a stroke while in the school room at Ral ston Wednesday morning, May 23, and died a few hours later. Mrs. Jackson was born near Valentine November 6, 1892, one of a family of 10, having seven sisters and two brothers. Two sisters and a brother preceded her in death. She was united in marriage with Frcdric Charles Jackson in 1915. He died on Thanksgiving day, 1918. Mrs. Jackson taught in the Cherry county schools and was elected to the office of county superintendent. She served 12 years in that post and went to Lincoln as an assistant to the state superintendent of public in struction during Mr. Taylor’s tenure. She was well-known throughout the state through her visitation program when with the state office. Mrs. Jackson taught in the Cherry county high school, Wayne State Teachers college, Fairbury public schools as a specialist in the handicapped field, Fairfield (la.) college, Compton, Calif., and in the Ralston school system. She was teaching at Ralston when she died. Survivors include; Son— John of Seattle, Wash.; daughter—Mrs. William (Harriet) Schneiderwend , of Omaha; five grandchildren; : five sisters and one brother. Services were held in Omaha on Saturday afternoon. Burial was made at Valentine. Among out-of-town persons at tending the funeral were Mrs. Merle Brouse of Lincoln, Mr. and i Mrs. N. D. Ickes, sr., and Mr. and Mrs. Neven Ickes, jr., of Page and Mr. and Mrs. Soren Sorensen of Star. 2 O’Neill Youths Treated for Hurts Four young people, including iwo from O’Neill, suffered bruises in a one-car crash about midnight Saturday one-half mile east of Norfolk at the intersection of state highway 35 and a county road. Darrell Strong, 19, of O’Neill was driver of the car. Strong and three passengers were treated at a Norfolk hospital and dismissed. Passengers were: LeRoy Knep per, 19, of O’Neill; Pat Brock house, 19, and Delores Heesacker, both of Humphrey. The car failed to make a turn, knocked down some posts, and traveled 66 feet between the time it left the road and came to a stop. ---- Regional Deaths Mrs. Laura Williams BASSETT — Funeral services were held Tuesady, May 22, for Mrs. Laura Williams, 76, whc died Sunday, May 20. Survivors include three daughters and three sons. Phillip Scheer CLEARWATER— Funeral ser vices for Phillip Scheer, 90, whc died Tuesday, May 22, in a Nor folk hospital, were conducted Saturday, May 26 John Wunner, 72, Burial at Stanton Merchant at Ewing 37 Years EWING—Funeral «>rvices were held Friday. May 25. at the Meth odist church for John Wunner, 72, longtime resident of Ewing Rev. Lee Brigden officiated. The late Mr Wunner died Wed nesday, May 23. in a Norfolk hos pital. Honorary pallbearers were R G. Rockey, Everett Ruby, Emmet Wright and William Spence. Ac Mr. Wunner . . . veteran. live pallbearers were Hermit Jefferies, Ralph Munn, Gail Boies, R H. Shain, Arthur Kropp and Elmer Bergstrom. Burial was made at Stanton with Rev. Samuel Cushing offi ciating. Mr. Wunner was well-known in Ewing and community, lie had been in poor health for several years hut until alHtut two years ago he was able to be active about his home earing for his garden and flowers. The late John Wunner was born September 2, 1883, at Pil | K«*r He was reared at Stanton and l received his education in the Stanton school, graduating in the class of 1899. Later, he attended the University of Nebraska. He was confirmed in the Lu theran faith at Stanton. On September 2, 1909, he was united in marriage to Effie Mc I Kinsey. They established their 1 home in Ewing. Two children I were born to this union. There were nine children born to Mr. Wunner's parents, five of whom preceded him in death, school board for 10 years. : a Ewing merchant for 37 years, ! retiring in 1946. He served on the j school boar dfor 10 years. Robertson, retired Consumers Public Power district employee, to look after the pumps on a temporary basis. Robertson has had many years of experience with municipal light, power and sewer equipment. Mission Head Was Houseboy for Rev. McKeown PAGE—Rev. James H. Nimene, I superintendent of 10 missions in the Liberia, Africa, mission field, spoke to those attending Bible school on Tuesday afternoon, May 22. He was guest speaker at the Page Methodist church that evening. He talked on living conditions in Africa and of the work being done there throuhg missions. Reverend Nimene was a guest in the Merwyn French, sr., home. Ey coincidence, the fact was re vealed that he had been a house boy for Rev. Sam McKeown dur ing his stay in Africa and had known Mrs. McKeown when she was a missionary before her mar riage. He learned English from Reverend McKeown in the first grade, while he was a member of his household, and was one of the few who were privileged to get an education and become a min ister. Brownies Take Gifts to St. Anthony’s— The Brownies of troop II met at the hospital on Monday, May 28, to give the scrapbook and sup plies needed to the children in the hospital. The Brownies then visited the radio station, after which they played at Ford’s park until the meeting was over. The hostess was Sally Herley, who served cake. Brother-in-law Dies in Bridgeport— AMELIA—Arthur Hiatt receiv ed word of the death of his brother-in-law, Will Mulligan of Bridgeport. He received the in formation too late to attend the funeral. A short musical program was given as a farewell to Re\ and Mrs. J. M. Hodgkin and a gift was presented them from the two churches. Fellowship and lunch followed in the church par lors.
