Riverside News The Free Methodist Mission ary society met at the church recently. The Free Methodist Mission on a program during the church services Sunday morning. Mr. and Mrs Art Busshardt and family called at the Dave pollock home last Thursday eve ning. Mr and Mrs. Mike Cronin of Denver, Colo., were supper guests Tuesday, May 22, at the IJonel Gunter home. Mike was called here as his mother, Mrs. Minnie Cronin, had suffered a heart attack She entered Ante lope Memorial hospital Wednes day afternoon, May 23, for ob servation. Tuesday afternoon, May 22. Mike received word that his sister, Mrs. Karl Brockman, of Sheboygan Falls, Wise., had died of a cerebral hemorrage in the hospital that morning. She is survived by a husband and two sons. Mr. and Mrs. Otto Retge are staying at the Z. H. Fry home in Newman Grove and the Frank Emsic family in Omaha Mr. and Mrs. George Mont gomery called at the Rol Hord home Monday evening, May 21 Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Fry en tertained a group Wednesday af ternoon, May 23, in honor of Mary Napier’s birthday anniver sary. Guests were Betty Napier, Margaret Fry, Mrs. Darlene Ruby and children. Mrs. Ralph Munn and children, Bessie Na pier and Jessie Retke. Mr. and Mrs. Wendell Switzer and family visited at the L«o Miller home Friday evening. Little Connie Montgomery spent Wednesday afternoon, May 23, with her grandmother, Mrs. George Montgomery, while her mother, Mrs Lorraine Mont gomery, took Larry, Gary and Ijnda for their polio shots. Deemer Conner went to Sioux City Friday for a checkup re turning that evening. Lana and Rodie Cleveland had a tonsilectomy last Tuesday at the Plainview hospital. Tuesday night Sandra Shrader stayed with Janell Hoke and Clayton Hoke was an overnight guest of Douglas Shrader. Janell Hoke spent Thursday night with Sandra Shrader and Douglas Shrader was an overnight guest of Clayton .Hoke. Sandra Shra der and Janell Hoke taught at vacation church school the past week. Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Fry and children and Mr and Mrs. Rich ard Napier and family were supper guests Wednesday eve ning, May 23. at the Lynn Fry home honoring Mrs. Richard Napier’s birthday anniversary. George Montgomery and Rol Hord attended the farmer’s bar bercue Thursday evening in the park. Mrs. Montgomery and Mrs. Hord ate supper in a cafe and later attended the program giv en in the park for the public. i ! ! Ellingson was put far behind with his spring work when he ; suffered a painful abdominal at tack while working in the field. Me was taken to St. Anthony’s hospital and, presto, the appendix j was removed on an emergency | basis. He was released from the hos pital about two weeks ago. Besides those pictured, others ! helping in the project were Boyd | Boelter, Gerry Sauser, Morris ] Harmon, Don Adamson, Norman Wayman and Marvin Clouse. Book Review to be Presented— The Friendly Neighbors Pro I jeet club met Tuesday, May 22, at the home of Mrs. Betty Kip ple. Mrs. Geraldine Strong served as cohostess. Mrs. Kipple gave the lesson on sewing new fabrics. A baby shower was held for Mrs. Mary Ann Wichman. The next meeting will be held June 26 at the home of Mrs. Rae Whited. Each member is to bring i a guest for guest night. A book ! review will be given. Mr and Mrs. John Robertson of Alliance are spending a few days here visiting Mr. and Mrs. George Hartford. Star News Mr. and Mrs. Ewalt Miller and Barbara spent Monday evening, May 21, at the Gerald Waring home. Mrs. Hattie Boelter was also a visitor there and spent the week at the Waring home. She is Mrs. Waring's mother. Many from this community at tended the funeral services in Verdigre Wednesday, May 23, for Mrs. Walter Vonasek, a sister of Mrs. Ben Vonasek, of Star. Mr. and Mrs. Lysle Johnson and Wyn, Mr. and Mrs. Max Le Masters and family and Mr. and Mrs. Elvin Hamilton spent Sun day at Ft. Randall, S.D. Mr. and Mrs. Soren Sorensen, jr„ and Mr. and Mrs. Max Le M asters sponsored the dance at the Ash Grove hall Saturday evening. Stourals furnished the music. There will be a dance for the teenagers Friday, June 1, and also a dance June 3 with the Mullen orchestra furnishing the music. Mr. and Mrs. Ewalt Miller and Barbara and Larry Johnson spent Sunday sight-seeing near Long Pine, Miss Diane Snyder is spending some time at the home of her aunt, Mrs. Charles Russel, and family in Lincoln. There will be an auxiliary meeting Tuesday afternoon, June 5 at the Ash Grove hall. Bible School Ends with Program— AMELJA—The daily vacation Bible school closed Friday eve ning with a program. The senior group was taught by Mrs. Vern Sageser and Mrs. Ernie Johnston. Mrs. Margie Sammons and Mrs. Blake Ott had charge of the junior group. Other teachers were Mrs. Clyde Widman and Mrs. Marvin Doolittle. V. Robertson place west of Chambers. Mr. Robertson is president of he newly-organized rural fire i-:: :ct. Other officers are: Vera Sageser of Amelia, viee-presi dent, and Clyde Widman, also of Amelia, secretary and treas urer. The organization, comprising some nine or 10 townships, i contemplates the purchase of a rural fire truck in the near fu I ture.
