OYSTER SUPPER CLEARWATER — A large crowd attended the annual oyster supper held Friday evening at the Legion hall at Clearwater. GEORGE OETTER 38p50 Mothers’ March Is Planned at Ewing EWING—The American Legion auxiliary met last Thursday eve ning at the Legion club and made plans to sponsor a mothers’ polio march on Thursday evening, Jan : uary 26. Porch lights are to be turned on at the homes. Mrs. Alfred Napier was ap pointed secretary to fill a vacancy caused by the resignation of Miss Fern Pruden. It was voted that each member give 25 cents to the little red school fund. Miss Pruden was appointed chairman of the American essay contest. A girl from the junior class of the Ewing school was selected to attend Comhuskers girls’ state in June and the application was forwarded. Twelve auxiliary members were joined by the Legion for a social hour and refreshments were served b y Mesdames Delbert Stonebraker, Walter Woeppel and Loyd West, jr. The county Legion and auxil iary meeting which was to be held in O’Neill on Monday was dis cussed and several planned to attend. Ewing Plans July Fun Day Celebration EWING — The American Le gion, Sanders post 214, met last Thursday evening for a regular session at the Legion club. A boy from the junior class of the Ew ing high school was selected to attend Cornhuskers boys’ state in June. An alternate was alio chosen. The Legion distributed 10 bas kets to families in Ewing at Christmas time. Notes of thanks were read from recipients. There was a discussion of a Le gion fund day celebration some time in July. Plans were partial ly made for this affair. Wayne Shrader is commander of Sanders post. On adjournment, the members joined the auxiliary for a social hour and refreshments. WCTU Protests Displays— PAGE — Mrs. Dora Townsend was hostess to the Women’s Christian Temperance Union on Friday afternoon. The group ad opted a resolution protesting the excessive display of alcoholic beverages. The business session was conducted by Mrs. Rose Chichester, who was also observ ing her 79 th birthday anniver sary. Admitted to Club— Mrs. Floyd Sanders was hostess to the Grattan Farmerette exten sion club Wednesday, January 11. The new president, Mrs. Kenneth Ellingston, was in charge, The yearbooks were filled out. Mrs. Anson Closson was admitted into the club. The next meeting will be February 15, with Mrs. Mar vin Clouse. 81st Birthday— Mrs. J. R. Harmon was enter tained on her 81st birthday anni versary Tuesday evening at the home of Mr. and Mrs. M. L. Har mon. Mr. and Mrs. Victor C. Johnson were also guests. Supper and evening guests of Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Johnson on Sunday, January 8, were Mr. and Mrs. Lowell Johnson and son, Roland. 400 to 500 Head of Cattle Expected • There will be from 400 to 500 head of cattle at the reg ular weekly sale today (Thursday) at the O'Neill Live stock Market. The run will consist largely of calves and year lings. • The hog sale will start promptly at 12 o’clock, so please bring your hogs in early. • The dairy sale will be held Saturday night, January 21. There will be 50 head of choice dairy calves and 15 springer cows. One calf to be given free. • Plan to be with us today and for the Saturday sale.
