Sunday morn ing they went to Valpraiso where they attended the golden wedding anniversary of Mrs. Kaiser’s uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Adolph Kliment. There were 200 attend ing the observance. Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Jones spent Saturday afternoon in Norfolk on business. Mr. and Mrs. Joe Langan and family of Columbus visited from Wednesday until Thursday eve ning with Mr. and Mrs. M. M. Langan and family and Mr. and Mrs. John DeWitt and family. Mrs. Goldie Liddy left Tuesday for her home in Lincoln after spending the holidays visiting her son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. T. L. To Wed at Norfolk Mr. and Mrs. Clem Ackerman of Stuart are announcing the engagement and approaching marriage of their daughter, Miss Lavon Ackerman (above), and William Webbert, son of Mr. and Mrs. H. J. Webbert of Salt Lake City, Utah. The be trothed couple are both em ployed in Norfolk. The bride elect is a graduate of St. Mary’s academy with the class of 1954. They will be married January 19 at Sacred Heart Catholic church in Norfolk. Marlatt Rites Held at Spencer SPENCER — Funeral services were conducted at the Methodist church here Friday, January 6, for Mrs. Marlin R. Marlatt, 78, who died Wednesday morning, January 4, at the Lynch hospi tal. She had suffered a stroke late Friday, December 30, and as taken to the hospital on Sunday, January 1. Rev. Clyde Wells, church pas tor, was in charge of the ser vices, assisted at the graveside by Rev. Anna Nelson of Lynch. Music was furnished by Mrs. Harold H a u n , Mrs. William Stanton, Dave Landholm and Or chard Friedrich, who sang “The Old Rugged Cross” and “Abide With Me.” Mrs. Stanton sang a solo, “Beyond the Sunset.” Mrs. Orchard Friedrich was accom panist. Pallbearers were Algot Sand berg, Bob Carr, Don Drickey, Walter Hornback, Charles Pe cena and Morris Johnson. Gertrude Peck, daughter of William and Nancy Peck, was born November 1, 1877, at Blakesburg, la. In 1903 she was married to Marlin Marlatt at Blakesburg and they moved to Spencer and lived here until 1936 when they moved to Bristow. To this union were born three children. She joined the Methodist church in her youth at Blakes burg and later transferred her membership to Spencer and then to Bristow. Survivors include: Widower — Marlin; son—Delbert of Norfolk; daughters—Mrs. Frank (Bernice) Loocks of Spencer and Mrs. Mel vin (Marguerite) Hiatt of Bris tow; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
