Inman Lodge „ Shares Trophy IN M A N — Arbutus Rebekah lodge met in regular session Wed nesday evening, December 14, at the IOOF hall. Karl Keyes, noble grand was in charge. Twenty five members of Deborah Re bekah lodge 63 of Norfolk came by chartered bus to present a special program and to bring the secret work trophy to Inman. During a special drill, Mrs. Edwin Jones of Norfolk presented the trophy to Karl Keyes of In man. The trophy is an annual award presented at the district meeting held in June and pre sented to the winner of the secret work contest. At the district meeting held last June in Inman, Mrs. Edwin Jones, vice grond of Deborah lodge in Norfolk, and Karl Keyes, noble grand of Arbutus lodge, tied for this honor. Mrs. Ruth Hughes, then assembly president, ruled that Norfolk should keep the trophy six months then bring it to Inman for the remaining six months and that they should also furnish the entertainment for the evening. An interesting program was presented by the Norfolk group, refreshments were served by Mrs. Melvin Lorenz, Mrs. K. F. Smith, and Mrs. Albert Reynolds. Other Inman News Mrs. E. E. Clark entertained the Young Mother’s club at her home on Tuesday, December 13. Mrs. Clark served served dinner to the group. In the afternoon they enjoyed a social time, fol lowed by an exchange of Christ mas gifts. Mrs. H. E. Smith and Mrs. James Coventry were guests. Miss Marilyn Gallagher return ed home from Denver, Colo., and will spend the Christmas holidays with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. P. Gallagher, and family. Marilyn attends Colorado State university. Kenneth Coventry spent Satur day in Herman on business. Miss Vicki Hutton of Omaha spent the weekend here visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. T. D. Hutton. Terry and Gaylene Anthony spent Saturday in Page visiting their grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Otto Matschullat. Mr. and Mrs. Leo P. Mossman returned home Sunday morning after spending the past month in Lawrence, Kans., visiting in the home of their son-in-law and daughter, Dr. and Mrs. Robert Gillahan, and making the ac quaintance of the new grand daughter. Postmaster and Mrs. James McMahan were guests Tuesday evening, December 13, in the home of Postmaster and Mrs. B. H. Stevens at Page. Miss Carolyn Watson returned home Sunday evening from Om aha, where she is a student nurse, and will spend the Christmas holidays with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. I. L. Watson, and Sam. Mrs. Donald Keyes entertained the Woman’s department of the RLDS church at her country home on Tuesday evening, No vember 13. Alter the regular study hour period a social time was enjoyed followed by an ex change of Christmas gifts. The husbands and children were guests. Mrs. Keyes served re freshments. Mr. and Mrs. Ort Bereuter of Bloomfield were Sunday guests in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Al bert Anthony and children. O’NEILL LOCALS Army Pvt. Duane Weier arriv ed home Saturday night for a holiday leave with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Weier. He has just completed basic training at Camp Chaffee, Ark., and will report to Ft. Bragg, N.C. He is in the ordnance corps and expects an early overseas assignment, probably Germany. Fred Fetrow and Jack Hollen back drove to Hastings Thursday evening to get Lyle Fox, who is attending college there. Mr. and Mrs. Archie May and children of Bristol, Ind., arrived Monday to visit her parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Gallagher at In man and her brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. A1 Hamik and family. Club Members Do Needlework— VENUS — The Work and Fun club met at the Blanch Risinger home Wednesday, December 14. The members arrived at 10 o’ clock and needlework was done for the hostess during the fore noon. There were 15 members and one visitor, Mrs. Leonard Risin ger, present. At noon a no-host dinner was served. In the afternoon a Christ mas party was held. Mrs. Max LeMasters and Mrs. Lavine Hines had charge of the entertainment. Several prizes were given. A grab bag gift exchange was held, each one receiving a gift. The January meeting will be held at the home of Mrs. George Haggemeyer. Celia News Jim Lauridsen was a Spencer visitor Saturday. Isla Ruda spent Sunday with her parents at Bristow. Mr. and Mrs. Earl Schlotfeld were last Thursday morning vis itors at the Ray Pease home. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Mick and son were Sunday dinner guests at the Perry Terwilliger home. Mr. and Mrs. Lee Terwilliger were Sunday visitors at the Jack Winings home and brought their grandson, Jarrel Winings, home with them for a few days’ visit. Thelma Summers in S.C. Hospital— VENUS—Harold Summers went to Sioux City a week ago to be with his daughter, Thelma, who is there at a hospital receiving medical aid. Thelma was serious ly injured in a car accident last May. Not much hope was held for her at the time but she has recovered, although it will be some time before she is complete ly well. Miss Thelma plans to go to school during the coming year. She was a rural teacher in Holt county last year. Miss Summers was hospitalized at St. Anthonys’ several weeks following the accident and had been at home several months be fore entering a hospital at Sioux City recently. School Program Scheduled Tonight— RIVERSIDE—Rural school dis trict 42, taught by Jeanne Welke, presented a program Wednesday evening. The program at district 8 will be held tonight (Thursday). Mrs. Elmer Maulding is teacher. Patty Mosel and her pupils of district 26 will present a program Friday evening. Frontier for printing! Riverside News Mr. and Mrs. Robert Montgom ery ate dinner Sunday with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Milford Wehenkel, in Neligh. They also attended the Christmas vespers service presented by the Neligh city schools in the school gymna sium. Mr and Mrs. Rol Hord called on Mr. and Mrs. Clay Babcock Friday afternoon. Raymond Turner of McPherson, Kans., came Saturday to spend the holidays with his parents. The Ora Switzer family visited at Lloyd Switzer’s Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Bill Lofquest were O’Neill shoppers Wednesday, De cember 14. Mr. and Mrs. Bert Fink spent Friday at the Lee Fink home near Page. Wednesday afternoon, Decem ber 14, Mrs. Wayne Fry enter tained in honor of the birthday anniversaries of Julie and Jody. Guests included Mrs. Duane Jen sen and daughters of Newman Grove, Mrs. Richard Napier and girls, Mrs. Dale Napier, “Grand ma” Fry, Patty Lofquest, Jackie Fry and a group of children who came after school. Lou and Mar cia Vandersnick spent the eve ning. The Wayne Fry family, Lou and Marcia Vandersnick and Keith Gibson ate dinner with A1 Gibson Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Dale Raasch and Renea of Omaha visited at Dave Pollock’s Saturday. Stevie Miller visited Riverside school Monday, December 12. Linda Larson spent Sunday night with Sharon Mott. The Free Methodist annual tur key feed will be held at Grant Mott’s Monday night. The Vic Vandersnick family called Tuesday night, December 13 at Johnny Miller’s. The Bill Lofquest family spent Sunday at the Lee Fink home I near Page. Mr. and Mrs. Ben Miller of Star visited Sunday at the Bert Fink home. Rock Falls News The Pleasant Day club met on Friday, December 16, at the home of Mrs. Albert Sterns after two unsuccessful attempts earlier, due to bad roads. Seven members in cluding Mrs. Sterns were present for the noon day meal, another coming later in the afternoon. Others could not get there and very little business could be tak en care of as the secretary-treas urer was one of the absentees. This being the Christmas party meeting, mystery gifts were ex changed, however, there were two or three who failed to receive a gift. The next meeting will be at the nome of Mrs. Floyd John son on January 11, weather and roads permitting. Mr. and Mrs. Wesley Taylor and children were evening visit ors on December 15 at the Lou Brown home. , Mr. and Mrs. Leslie Strong of Omaha spent a week at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Al bert Sterns. Miss Evelyn Sterns returned to Omaha with them. Terry and Cindy Brown spent last Saturday night with their cousin, Lynda Hynes. The Hynes family brought them home on Sunday and spent the day with the Browns. Mrs. Glen Bailey of Los Angeles, Calif., spent several days last week visiting at the home of her sister, Mrs. Floyd Johnson, and family. Mr. and Mrs. Lyle Vequist and children were Tuesday evening, December 13, visitors of Mr. and Mrs. Albert-Sterns. Mrs. Floyd Johnson and sister, Mrs. Glenn Bailey, were dinner guests at the John Schultz home on December 14. The Eagle Valley Card club met on Friday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Lou Brown with twelve players present. High scores were won by Floyd and Linda Johnson, lows by Mrs. Floyd Johnson and Ray Johnson, while Gordon John son won the traveling prize. It seems to have been a lucky night for the Johnsons. The next meet ing will be on January 14, at the i home of Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Johnson. Mr. and Mrs. Albert Sterns spent Saturday evening at the Lyle Vequist home. Linda Johnson was a Sunday evening visitor of the Lloyd Gal lagher family. Roy Johnson also spent the afternoon there. Mr. and Mrs. Lyle Vequist call ed on Mrs. Celia Grutsch on Sun day morning. From early morning until the sun was casting lengthy shadows over the hills, there was consider able activity along and near the Eagle creek, during the past few days of deer hunting season. The eager hunters, including several women, found it pretty tough going when they left their cars and proceeded to stalk the wary animals on foot in the deep snow. However, there were several deer taken from the timbered area along the creek regardless of snow and cold. Mr. and Mrs. Blake Benson were guests of honor at a birth day dinner Sunday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Benson, for their little granddaughter, De Maris Joan. Mr. and Mrs. Bud Molar visit ed at the Dave Molar home on Monday. They passed the time of day playing cards, forgetting tern porarily at least, the biting cold on the outside. Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Vequist and children of Omaha spent the weekend at the home of Ray mond’s parents, Mr. and Mrs" Henry Vequist.
