Mrs. Herman Dorr was surpris
ed Sunday evening, October 30.
when a group of neighbors came
to help her celebrate her birthday
anniversary. Draw pitch was
played. Winning the men’s high
was Herman Dorr and Franklin
Ulhir, low. Ladies high went to
Mrs. Fred Ulhir and low to Viola
Pospeshil. A lunch was served,
brought by the guests. Mrs. Dorr
received several gifts. Those pre
sent were Mr. and Mrs. Albert
Pospeshil, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph
Brookhouser, Mr. and Mrs. Fred
Ulhir and family, Misses Vlasta,
Viola and Rita Pospeshil, and Mr.
and Mrs. Herman Dorr.
Mrs. Ethel Frisch and sons of
O’Neill spent last weekend with
her sister and family, Mrs. Ar
thur Ennen and family.
Those from Venus attending
the funeral of Mrs. John Herout
at Verdigre Thursday forenoon
were Mr. and Mrs. Howard Tyler
and Mrs. R. Brookhouser.
Mrs. Ora Caskey and Mrs. Har
ry Caskey were O’Neill visitors
Thursday.
A box social was held at the
district 54 school Monday eve
ning, October 23. A nice crowd
attended. Games, under the direc
tion of Mrs. Kenneth Caskey,
were played. 'Many prizes were
given.
Joe Forman and sons, Emil
Forman and Ralph Brookhouser
were helping Fred Ulhir brand
cattle last Thursday.
Dennis Von Seggron, who is a
student at Wayne State Teachers
college, visited his parents, the
Art Von Seggrons, from Wednes
day evening, October 26, until
Monday.
Arthur Von Seggron has been
carrying mail for the past two
weeks, during Lester Raff’s vaca
tion. j
Mr. and Mrs. Archie Moser and
daughters and Mr. and Mrs. Har
ry Caskey attended a family din
ner gathering at the home of Mr.
and Mrs. J. Jacot of Verdigre on
Sunday, October 23, given in hon
or of their son, Charles, who re
cently arrived at Verdigre for a
15-day furlough after finishing an
eight-weeks’ school at Norman,
Okla. He leaves for Norfolk, Va.,
on November 4.
Visiting at the home of Mr. and
Mrs. Harold Pospeshil and family
of Sioux City from Thursday un
til Saturday were Vlasta and Vi
ola Pospesbil and neice, Rita.
Overnight visitors at the Her
man Dorr home were Mr. and
Mrs. Elmer Ervin of Bassett. Mrs.
Dorr is Mr. Ervin’s sister. On
Saturday the two families attend
ed the funeral of Mrs. Orville
Stolp at Creighton, who died ear
ly Wednesday, October 26, at a
Norfolk hospital, where she was
a patient since June 1.

Gather Pennies
AMELIA—The WSCS sponsor
ed a Hallowe’en party Monday
evening for the children of the
community. Groups of children
with their sponsors called on
homes throughout the community
and instead of tricks or treats
asked for pennies to be sent to
foreign countries to benefit the
children there.
The groups then returned to
the school where they were
shown a film and given treats.

Ivan Heiss Heads
Holt Farm Bureau
PAGE—The new officers of the
Holt county farm bureau took
office last Thursday evening at
the first meeting of the new year.
They are: Ivan Heiss, president;
Alfons Beelaert, vice-president,
and Dale Stauffer, secretary and
treasurer.
The meeting was held at dis
trict 57 or the Wood school.
The resolutions adopted at the
Neligh meeting of the Antelope
farm bureau, attended by Ivan
Heiss, Merwyn French, jr., and
Dale Stauffer, were read and dis
cussed.
Ivan Heiss and Mike William
son were chosen as delegates to
attend the state convention at
Lincoln November 14, 15 and 16.
It is intended that the local,
county, state and national gov
ernment departments in which
the farm bureau has an interest
shall hear its opinions and that
the opinions may have some in
fluence on legislation.
Mrs. Ralph Larson, chairman
of the women’s division, was in
charge of the lunch arrangements.
Plans were made to meet with
the fann bureau of the south half
of Holt county to organize a Holt
county farm bureau instead of be
ing a unit of the Antelope coun
ty division.
Miss Mildred Crabb, who is at
tending Wayne State Teachers
college, spent the weekend visit
ing relatives in O’Neill.
