Auctions Have Advantages, Too ROCK FALLS— Nice autumn veather and public auctions! Sounds like an odd combination, \ but nevertheless, a good one be cause they afford a swell chance to get out and enjoy the outdoors, meet friends and neighbors, and grab a few bargains. Mr. and Mrs. James Moss of Sioux City came Friday to spend the weekend with home folks, the Albert Sterns family. Mr. and Mrs. Wesley Taylor, Norman and Barbara spent a so cial evening at the Floyd John son home on Friday, October 7. During the evening the gathering • * was interrupted by a phone call from Mrs. Gordon Johnson tell ing the parents that Gordon had submitted to an appendectomy and hour or so earlier. It was a surprise to all as he had been helping in overhauling the tele phone line for more than a week. Mr. and Mrs. Lou Brown and children had dinner and spent Sunday at the Austin Hynes home. Other dinner guests were Mrs. Ethel Brown and son, Arlen, of Atkinson. They had attended first communion services for Ter ry Brown. Little Marty, Danny and Doug . las Drueke, sorts of Mr. and Mrs. O. Drueke, have been staying at the Lou Brown home the last few days while their mother is in the hospital. She was to go home on Wednesday with their new baby sister. Tommy Joe and Carol Ann had supper on Monday night at the Brown home with their little brothers. Mr. and Mrs. Don Hynes and Lynda spent Sunday at the George Calkins home. Norma Widtfeldt was an over night guest on Wednesday, Octo ber 5, of the Lyle Vequist children, and on Saturday Lynda \ ; Hynes spent the night there. Mrs. Floyd Johnson, Linda and Mrs. Lowell Johnson went to Norfolk on Monday to visit a hospital patient, who recently underwent surgery. Trudy Schultz visited school on Monday, October 10. She will be * a regular attendant after Christ mas. Spend Two Weeks at GraUd Island— Mrs. Wayne Fox and Mrs. Wil liam Kelley returned Sunday from a two-week’s vacation to Grand island, where they visited with Mr. and Mrs. Joe Luth and at Hastings, where they visited with Mrs. Fox’s mother, Mrs. * Stella Kendall, and her brothers, . Dale and Ray Kendall. Highway 7 Stretch Is Dedicated— SPRINGVIEW — A stretch of state highway 7, south of Spring view, was dedicated Monday af ternoon. State Engineer L. N. Ress of Lincoln was the principal speaker. The Rock county (Bas sett) and Ainsworth high school bands furnished music. Relocation of the highway cost nearly one-million-dollars, in cluding a 371-foot bride across the Niobrara and a 165-foot span across Bone creek. Returns to O’NeiH— Mrs. Leon Sargent arrived home Sunday evening after spending four weeks with her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Parks, in Scottsbluff. She took her grandson, Dennis Lee, home after he had visited with her since August 13. Society to Meet— St. Patrick’s Altar Society will meet Thursday, October 20, at 8 o’clock in St. Mary’s gym. St. Ce celia’s guild will entertain. Mrs. Harold Weier is chairman of the guild. Riverside News Sunday dinner guests at the Will Shrader home were the Wil lie Shrader and Verle Gunter families, Mrs. Mollie Brunner, Mr. and Mrs. Lionel Gunter and Paul and James Gunter. Mr. and Mrs. Milford Wehen kel of Neilgh visited at the Rob ert Montgomery home Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Rol Hord were Friday evening visitors at the George Montgomery home. Mr. and Mrs. Howard Miller called at the Fay Doty home in Ewing Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Duane Jensen and family of Newman Grove spent Saturday night at the Bill Dinner guests at the Bill Fry home Sunday were Duane Jen sen and family, the Richard Na pier family and Henry Emsic. The Missionary society of the Free Methodist church met at the parsonage Wednesday for a quilt tieing for the mission. Mr. and Mrs. Bert Fink visited relatives at Fremont Sunday. Mrs. Edna Lofquist and Beverly Meyers joined them at Neligh and visited at the Bob Lofquest home at Fremont. Mr. and Mrs. Gail Wilcox of Clearwater visited at the Wilson Spangler home Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. Verl Gunter and children of Crookston arrived late Saturday evening to spend Sunday with relatives. Forum met at the church an nex Friday evening. Mr. and Mrs. Willie Shrader were hostesses. They were assisted by Mr. and Mrs. Lynn Fry. Alice Shrader had charge of the lesson which was about “Paradox for Parents”. Wilmer Mosel and Raymond Schmidt called on Lionel Gunter Friday evening. Mr. and Mrs. George Mont gomery attended a sale at Cham bers Wednesday. Sergeant Boyle Back from Germany— Army Sgt. Don Boyle, who has been stationed at Aschaffenburg and Schweinfurt, Germany, for the past two years, arrived in New York City Friday and drove to O’Neill, arriving Tuesday night. He will go to Ft. Riley, Kans., today (Thursday) where he will reenlist. Upon reenlisting, he will return to O’Neill to spend a leave with his wife and baby, also with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. James Boyle. — — ■ __—. _ .. Merwyn Frencn, sr., spent Monday night at the home of Mrs. Gertrude Deaver at Des Moines, la., on the return trip from Flint, Mich., whre he had taken their daughter, Mrs. Duane Dorr, and children. Mr. Dorr is an instruct or in the English department at a Flint college. The members of the Rebekah lodge held their regular meeting at the IOOF hall Tuesday eve ning. The installation team will meet at the hall on Sunday. eve ning to practice for installation which will be held October 25, when Mesdames Gerald Wettlauf er, Melvin Carson and Frank Cronk will become lodge mem bers. Mrs. R. F. Park and Mrs. Clarence Stevens were hostesses. Mr. and Mrs. Dan Troshynski and son, Hugh, were Sunday din ner guests of Mr. and Mrs. George Head at O’Neill. Mrs. Louise Hesse and sons, Harold and Duane, attended church at Orchard Sunday and were dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Vern Riege. Oswald Goldfuss accompanied Bill Hauf and son, Dick, and Bill Timmerman to South Dakota for a week’s fishing. They returned home Tuesday and reported a “good catch” of fish. Loren Park, Lynn Larson and Harold Hesse went to Tilden on Sunday to see the ball game be tween Elgin and Tilden in which major league players participated. Mr. and Mrs. William Plautz of Lincoln came Saturday for the weekend with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. George Clasey. They re turned to their home Sunday. Mrs. Goldfuss and Johnny and Mr. and Mrs. N. D. Ickes and Denny were Monday evening vis itors of Mr. and Mrs. Soren Sor enson, jr., at Star. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Beelaert were Sunday afternoon callers at the Frank Bohn home at Deloit, where they visited his mother, Mrs: Marie Beelart. Mr. and Mrs. Willard Frericks and family were Sunday after noon callers at the Joe Beelaert home. The Golden rule project club held a twice postponed picnic at the Page park on Sunday. Rain was the reason for the change of date. A weiner roast was enjoyed. All except three families were present. A birthday dinner honoring her father, Otto Matschullat, was served Sunday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. A1 Anthony at In man. Her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Matschullat and her brother, Dale, and family were guests. Mrs. Frank Belmer of Ewing accompanied Mrs. Dora Town send on a business trip to New castle, Wyo., Monday. After an eight-day absence, Mr. and Mrs. Judd Russell re turned to Page on Monday eve ning. They visited their son-in law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert Lampshire at Polk, their son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Russell at Har vard and made the acquaintance of their great - granddaughter, Gwendolyn Ann, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Don Brurning at Has tings. They were guests of their son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Nelson, at Lincoln and of Mr. Russell’s brother-in-law and sister, Mrs. Clara Botsford and many old friends, and Mr. Russell’s brother and sister-in law, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Russell. Mr. and Mrs. Norman Trow bridge had her parents, Mr. and Mrs. R. F. Park and her brother, Ron, for Sunday dinner guests! Ron is a student at Wayne State Teacher’s college and was home for the weekend. Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Juracek and family of Star were Sunday guests in the home of her broth er, Edd Stewart, and family. Mrs. Hattie Carson and the Harold Kelly family had the fol lowing guests for Sunday dinner: Mrs. William Carson and daugh ter, Mrs. J. F. Wickham of Lin coln, and Mesdames Carrie Hunt er, Mary Wolfe and Miss Lizzie Carson, all of Redbird. The visit ors were afternoon guests of Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Carson and daughter. Mrs. Carson served lunch. The Lincoln guests went to Redbird that evening for a longer visit with the Carson sis ters. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Beelaert went to Omaha Thursday where they were overnight guests of Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Harper and daughters, Sandra and Jeanette. They made a business trip to Ida Grove, la., on Friday and return ed to Page that night. Mrs. Bertha Reed served a 2:30 o’clock dessert lunccheon to members of the Just-a-Mere club on Friday afternoon. Rook and visiting were the entertainment. Mrs. O. B. Stuart of Cozad, a former Page resident, and her - daughter, Mrs. Richard Knapp and son of Orchard were guests. Mrs. Carrie Townsend will be the October 21 hostess.
