ATKINSON NEWS Mr. and Mrs. Merlin Quigley and son, Larry, of Omoha came Saturday for a visit with her mother, Mrs. Joe Mlinar' and other relatives. Mr. Quigley and Larry left Sunday morning for Orchard where they visited be fore returning to Omaha that night. Mrs. Quigley left Wednes day for home. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Hendricks and family of McPherson, Kans., arrived Sunday for a visit with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Mark Hendricks, and family and other relatives and friends. Mr. and Mrs. Jim Czerny of Naper were Monday visitors at the O. A. Hammerberg home. Mr. and Mrs. Lesile Watt and children of Upton, Wyo., arriv ed Saturday, October 1, for a weeks’ visit with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Fullerton, and family. Mrs. Frank Dvorak and daughter, Kay, went to Kimball Friday to spend the weekend with Mr. Dvoark, who is working near there. Venus News Mr. and Mrs. C. O. Knoell and Larry Brookhouser of O’Neill were Sunday dinner guests at the Ralph Brookhouser home. Eve ning visitors were Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Finch and supper guests were Mr. and Mrs. Emil Bartos and family. Mr. and Mrs. Art Von Seggem celebrated their 20th wedding anniversary Sunday. The guests were a large number of their rel atives from Dodge county. Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Caskey moved during the weekend to the Tony Asimus house in West O’ Neill. Mr. Caskey has employ ment at O’Neill. Mrs. Caskey is teaching district 54 north of Ve nus. The farm vacated by them was sold to T. Kennison. Mr. and Mrs. Donald Kennison of Winnetoon plan to move there in the near future. Mr. and Mrs. Marlin Tusha gave a supper Friday in honor of their daughter, Genille, on her third birthday anniversary. Those present were Mr. and Mrs. Ed ward Tusha, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Brookhouser, Mr. and Mrs. Ru dolph Tusha (the great-grand parents), Mr. and Mrs. Marlin Tusha and Russel and Johnnie Valguardsen. The Help-U club met with Mrs. Kenneth Waring in O’Neill for an all-day session Wednes day, October 5. Present were 13 members and three visitors—Mrs. Kenneth Heiss, Mrs. Arnott Bux ton and Mrs. Clarence Stevens. Mrs. Waring served dinner. The afternoon was spent in doing fancywork for the hostess and Mrs. Clarence Finch had charge of the entertainment. Mrs. Bryan Finch received the door prize. The next meeting will be with Mrs. William Buxton. Ewing News Hans Peterson and son, El wood, returned home Wednesday from Scottsbluff, where they had transacted business since Mon day. Miss Shirley Doud returned to her home in Ewing on Saturday after spending a few days assist ing at the home of Mr. and Mrs. James McDonald near O’Neill. A family get-together was held Sunday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Eddie Kaczor and family. A one o’clock dinner was served followed by an afternoon of vis iting. In attendance were Mrs. Eva Kaczor and daughter, Irene, Joe Kaczor and daughter, Jolene, Mr. and Mrs. Tom Kaczor and family, Mr. and Mrs. John Kaczor and children, Miss Benita Boll witt, all of Ewing, Mr. and Mrs. Tony Kaczor of Omaha, Mrs. An na Sehi of Elgin. INMAN—Jimmy Allen, son of Mr. and Mrs. James Allen, was hurt on Wednesday, October 5, while playing on the teeter-totter at school. He was taken to St. Anthony’s hospital where he was found to be badly bruised. Mrs. Allen, who teaches in the high school spent some time at the hospital with her son. Mrs. Nel son substituted for her at school. Jimmy was able to return home Monday. Sick & Injured O’NEILL—Mrs. Fred Holsclaw underwent surgery Wednesday morning at Bryan memorial hos pital in Lincoln. . . George Peter son suffered a heart attack while on a train enroute to Michigan to visit his daughter. He is in a De troit hospital where he will re main for a week. . . Mrs. Francis J. Gilg returned Friday from St. Joseph’s hospital in Omaha after undergoing treatment there. . . . Mrs. Joe Bartos received word Monday that her brother, Everett Siders, had been in an accident and is in “serious condi tion” in a Douglas, Wyo., hospit al. Mr. and Mrs. Bartos left Mon day for Douglas and reported Tuesday that Mr. Siders is suf fering from four broken ribs, a fractured collarbone and a crush ed left side. He is in an oxygen tent and is resting. . . C. R. (“Bob”) Hill returned to work Monday at the soil conservation office, having been laid up for 10 days with a back ailment. . . Edith Castleman is in a Sioux City hospital this week receiving medical treatment. . . Fay Miles entered an Omaha hospital early this week. . . Gordon Johnson submitted to an appendectomy Friday at St. Anthony’s. was hospitalized at St. Anthony’s was hospitalized at St. Anthonys in O’Neill from Monday to Fri day while tests were being made. . . . Mrs. Merwyn French sr., en tered the St. Anthony’s hospital where she was put in traction for a back and hip ailment. . . Floyd Frahm is reported as making a satisfactory recovery from his skull injury received from a fall ing tree limb and expects to be able to go home soon. . . Mrs. Darwin Murfin received a severe scalp wound recently when a pa tient became unmanageable and struck her over the head with a pop bottle found in the hall out side his room door. Mrs. Murfin, a nurse and a niece of Mrs. John Gray, is recovering at her home at Cairo. The Murfins were Page residents for many years. AMELIA — Mr. and Mrs. Al fred James accompanied by Al fred’s mother, Mrs. Mary James of Atkinson, went to Chicago, 111., Tuesday, October 4, where they visited his sister, Vera, who is ill. . . Miss Phillis Fullerton was able to come home Friday from the O’Neill hospital- where she had submitted to major sur gery. . . Mr. and Mrs. Paul Fish er received word from their daughter, Dorothy, who is at tending school at McPherson, Kans., stating that she is suffer ing from rheumatic fever and has been confined to her bed. . . Mrs Kay Joy, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Glenn White, was hospital ized in O’Neill this week. Rever end and Mrs. Joy have been visit ing here from Asoten, Wash. EMMET — Mr. and Mrs. G. I Owen Cole took their son, David, to Lincoln last Thursday where he entered the Lincoln General hospital to have a brace put on his leg. The Coles went to Lin coln Tuesday to bring him home. . . . The Raymond Richards chil dren were sick during the week end of stomach flu. EWING — Andrew Olson was taken to the Antelope Memorial hospital Friday evening where he underwent an emergency opera tion for appendicitis. He is mak ing “satisfactory progress”. STUART — Mrs. Ray Rhodes accompanied Mr. and Mrs.' George Keidel to Lincoln Satur day to Lincoln where she visited her husband, who is a patient in the Veteran’s hospital. CELIA—Mrs. D. F. Scott and Dorothy and Mrs. Charles Dobias went to Pickstown, S.D., to visit the Scotts’ son, Delbert, who is in the Pickstown hospital. CHAMBERS — Lannie LaRue returned last Thursday from St. Anthony’s hospital. . . E. V. Sag eser entered St. Anthony’s hospi tal Friday for medical care. LYNCH—Mrs. Edward Heiser has spent some time with her mother at the Neligh hospital. Her mother fell, fracturing her hip bone. She is resting easier. ATKINSON—Mrs. Rose Mon- ! ahan is improving after surgery performed two weeks ago at St. Joseph’s hospital in Omaha. Mrs. Don Allen Group Chairman Retiring Head Is Bristow Woman LYNCH—The Boyd county ex tension club council met at Butte Tuesday afternoon, October 4. Mrs. Don Allen of Lynch was elected group chairman; Mrs. Phillip Hammon of Lynch, secre tary, and Mrs. J. Price of Bris tow, treasurer. Retiring chairman is Mrs. Tom Bowers of Bristow and Mrs. John Fernau of Butte, who has been group chairman, automatically becomes chairman for 1956. Achievement day October 18 at Spencer was planned by the council. Other Lynch News Mrs. Inger Levi of Norfolk is visiting relatives here this week. Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Barta of Dorsey visited at the George Barta home. Mr. and Mrs. Ray Hurley of Creighton were recent visitors here. Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Betts of Maywood, 111., visited at the Ed Johns home last week. Mrs. Betts is the former Miss Alice Nelson of Lynch, a sister of Mrs. Johns. Mr. and Mrs. Leland Moody ?nd family visited relatives in Norfolk Sunday, October 2. A group of men of the As sumption BVM church gathered at the church one day last week and painted the outside of the church building in about six hours. Mr. and Mrs. Leo Sedlacek and Mrs. Lettie Sedlacek visited Butte relatives Tuesday, October 4. Mrs. Don Allen and Mrs. Grace Edson were Creighton visitors on Wednesday, October 5. Miss Kate McDermott is in Wisner visiting relatives after visiting at the home of her sister, Mrs. M. P. Stenger and family. Mr. and Mrs. Martin Jehorek and Mrs. Thomas Courtney, sr., returned home Sunday from a several days’ stay in Omaha vis iting with Miss Maxine Jehorek. They also attended the wedding of a niece there. Mr. and Mrs. C. C. Courtney were recent visitors in Sioux City. Mr. and Mrs. Ed Hajek of Denver, Colo., visited old-time friends here this week. Mrs. Hannah Streit has rented her home here and has gone to Madison where she has employ ment. Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Bjomsen left Monday, October 3, for Den ver, Colo., where they plan to make their home. Mesdames Beryl Moody, C. C. Courtney, Clarence Kolund, Al bert Kalkowski, Anton Wasatko, Frank Weeder and Martin Je horek and the Misses Pauline Mulhair and Margaret Stenger attended a farewell party in honor of Mrs. Joyce Nelson last Thursday afternoon at the Nel son home northwest of town. The self-invited guests served ice cream and cake. The Nelsons are leaving for Chicago, 111., this week where they plan to make their home. Miss Esther Smeege, a mis sionary recently returned from Africa, showed pictures and gave a talk about her experiences in Africa at the Wesleyan Methodist church Sunday evening. There was a large crowd. Mrs. Ernest J. Darnell and aaughter returned to their home in Detroit, Mich., after a two weeks’ visit at the parental Er nest K. Darnell home here and Clarence Carson home in Santee. Miss Pauline Mulhair was hostess to the Altar society last Thursday afternoon with Mrs. Phyllis Mulhair and Mrs. James Maly as co-hostesses. Seventeen members were present. The Knights of Columbus banquet to be held at the Lynch ballroom on November 6, was planned. The re mainder of the afternoon was spent on reports by the ladies on the archdiocesan NCCW con vention held at West Point Sep tember 28. The next meeting will be held with Mrs. M. P. Stenger, Margaret Stenger and Mrs. Mar tin Jehorek. Omahans Here— Mr. and Mrs. E. R. Johnson. Mrs. D. J. Cronin and Julia Cro nin, all of Omaha, are visiting this week with Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Sauser. Mrs. Johnson, Miss Cronin and Mrs. Sauser are sis ters, Mrs. Cronin is their mother. On Tuesday they all were dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Tom Greene.
