Howard Helps Fight Forest Fire— Army Pvt. Joseph F. Howard 17, son of Mrs. Elizabeth How ard of O’Neill, recently helped fight forest fires in the Klamath national forest near Yreka, Calif. Private Howard, a member cf the Second infantry division at Ft. Lewis, Wash., was returning to the fort from Camp Roberts, Calif., where he had helped with summer reserve training. His convoy stopped at the disaster and he was on the fire lines for five straight days. Howard is a member of com pany F in the division’s 23d reg iment. He was well-known here among people connected with the telephone company. -- PAGE—Louis Waterman of Orchard, driving a tractor north, and Ronnie Summers, traveling west in a car met in collision at the Dorr school intersection Tuesday morning, September 13. Damage was confined to the car and no was seriously hurt. 61 Students Enroll at Page High School PAGE—Supt. Stanley F. Gross reports the enrollment of 61 high school pupils, 24 in the primary department, 25 in the intermed iate grades and 19 in the sixth, seventh and eighth grades. New desks and chairs have been installed in the English and in the sixth, seventh and eighth grade rooms. The primary department has been moved to the basement into a room previously used for lunches. The floor has been cov ered with tile. The windows were repaired during the summer and the doors were changed to open outward to comply with fire department regulations. Edd Stewart is the new cus todian. He took over at the close of last school year. Stanley Gross replaces Ralph Brostrom as superintendent of schools and George Austin of Wooster, O., is the only new add ition to the school faculty. During the summer, storage closets were built in all the grade rooms. A set of Americana encyclopedias was purchased for the high school and a Britannica, jr„ set for the grades.
