He also received top showmanship honors and earned a purple ribbon on an Angus breeding heifer. Supt. Henry Wood said there were 175 livestock entries in 4-H—an all-time record.— The Frontier Photo. Kenneth Hoerle of Chambers exhibited the grrand champion Hereford female and grrand champion female in the open class with “Beauty,” a 16-months-old breeding: heifer. It was a repeat per formance for Hoerle, who grabbed similar honors with a different entry at the Holt county fair in 1954.—The Frontier Photo. Miss Beverly Linquist of Star received a purple ribbon with this Shorthorn breeding heifer. There were three other purples in the dariy breeding group. Miss Linquist said the Shorthorns were outntumbeed by Herefords and Angus.—The Frontier Photo. Miss Willa Mae Madsen of Amelia won champion honors in the stocker-feeder division at the Holt fair with this Hereford heifer, also the Chambers Commercial club trophy and Holt County Here ford Breeders’ association trophy. This marked Miss Madsen’s first year at the fair with an entry and she grabbed top honors.—The Frontier Photo. Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Hooper and Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Riggle and sons of Valentine visited Sunday evening with Mrs. Van nie Newman. Mrs. Leslie Perry of Bird City, Kans., were Thursday guests at the Dale Perry home. Mrs. Mertie Clute of David City was a guest Thursday at the home of Mrs. Iva Hopkins. Diane Perry was a Friday over night guest of Mary Etta and Kathy Perry. Lt. Allen Porter of Scott Field, 111., is home on a 10-day leave. Mrs. Stanley Soukup was call ed to Omaha Sunday on the death of her mother, Mrs. Sarah E. Sparks. Mrs. Soukup returned home that evening. The body was taken to Markleville, Ind., for burial.
