Tibbetts escaped with only minor hurts about 1:30 a.m., Wednesday when his south bound tractor-trailer outfit over turned on U.S. highway 75 about, one mile from the north outskirts of Sioux City.. Driver of the passenger car in volved in the head-on was Roy L. Vermilyea, 37, of Merrill, la. Vermilyea pleaded not guilty to charges of driving under the in fluence of liquor. 31 Grid Candidates in Eagles’ Camp Coach Marv Miller of the O’ Neill high Eagles has announced that 31 prospective gradders have already reported for pre-season checkout of equipment. An add itional 10 candidates are expected to sign on at the beginning of the school term. Practice sessions are being held each evening this week. Cardinals Prepare for Opening Tilt The St. Mary’s academy will open their football season Friday, September 9, when they take on the Spencer Pirates in an eight man Niobrara Valley conference game to be played at O’Neill. Already 31 prospective gridders have reported to check out equipment with the prospect of several more at the beginning of school. According to Cardinal Coach Don Templemeyer, this year’s squad will be considerably heav ier than the one last year. Returning letter men include: Tom Head, back; Ray Donohoe, end; Matt Hynes, halfback; Jim Froelich, end; Jim Hickey, guard; Tom Schneider, halfback; Bruce Weier, center; Gary Holly, quart erback; and Jim Enright, half back. Sick & Injured PAGE—Eighteen stitches were required to close the wound when Gerald Goldfuss injured his hand when his ring caught on a nail as he jumped down off his truck last Thursday. . . Keith Kennedy en tered a hospital Saturday and was released on Sunday. It was thought he may have become too hot. . . Mrs. Gerald Goldfuss is on the sick list and is at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Wulf, near Clearwater while she is not able to care for herself and son. EWING—A. M. Beelaert, who has been a surgical patient at the Antelope Memorial hospital, was released Thursday. He is conval escing at his home near Orchard. . . Visitors at Star P eted at Affairs STAR—Mr. and Mrs. Vince Cunningham and daughters, Kay and Sharon, of Erie Pa., were honored several times this past week, during their visit here. Registration for Swim Meet Begun The O’Nrtll city swim meet will be held Sunday, September 4, at the O’Neill Municipal swimming pool. Contestants from East O’ Neill will register at Dr. H. D. Gildersleeve’s office, and those from West O’Neill should report to Petersen’s Clothing before Fri day, September 3. Events to be held include: Free style, back stroke, diving and re lay. Contestants will compete in four classes, with medals and cer tificates being awarded to the winners, according to Pool Man ager Don Templemeyer. New Yorker Here— Joseph M. Monteverde of Brooklyn, N.Y., was a guest of Mr. and Mrs. Carroll (“Cal”) Stewart from Monday until Wed nesday morning. Mr. Monteverde and Mrs. Stewart were stationed in Furth, Germany during the lat ter part of World War II. Mrs. Robert Mathis and child ren visited Friday noon at the Elvin Hamilton home at Ewing and in the afternoon at the Ewalt Miller home near Star where they visited Mr. and Mrs. Vincent Cunningham of Erie Pa. Chambers News Mrs. Weldon Woods returned Friday from Los Angles, Calif., where she had visited since June 10, with her son and daughter-in law, Mr. and Mrs. Clayton Wood and boys. Mrs. Wood’s brother in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. A. C. Styles of Lincoln brought her here from Lincoln and at tended a day at the fair. Her brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Martin and daughter of Lincoln were also here for the fair. Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Nelson and daughter of Plainview were din ner guests on Saturday, August 20, in the Steve Shavlik home. They attended the fair in the af ternoon. They are cousins of the Shavliks. Miss Dorothy Koci of Norfolk is spending two weeks vacation with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Koci, and brother, Bob. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Tracy and children drove to North Bend, Kans., Saturday to visit her grandmother, Mrs. Short and uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Short. They returned Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. C. E. (Bus) Brit tell of Neligh were Saturday night and Sunday guests in the Glen Adams home. Mr. and Mrs. Omar Bratton and son of Toulon, 111., came Sunday, August 21, for a week’s visit with her brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrss. Lyman Covey and brothers and sisters-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Leon Hertel and Mr. and Mrs. Seth Hertle and family. Mr. and Mrs. Louis Bealer of Beaver Crossing were weekend guests in the Vrnon Whitaker home. Mr. and Mrs. Jim Parker of O’ Neill were supper guests Satur day, August 20, in the John Hon eywell home. Their granddaugh ter, Katheryn Rubeck, spent the weekend with them. Karen Ermer j was a Saturday overnight guest. Mrs. Joe Koci and daughter, Dorothy Koci, left Tuesday morn ing on a 10-day vacation trip through the East. They were ac companied by a friend, Miss Rose Mary Bender of Humphrey. Their attendants were Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Harley of Cham bers, friends of the couple. Following the ceremony Mr. and Mrs. Adams left for a trip to the Black Hills.
