President Presented Friendship Quilt— EWING — The Women’s Mis sionary society of the Free Meth odist church was held on June 17, at the home of Mrs. Walter Mil ler. Mrs. Fay Doty was in charge of the devotions, which included hymns, scripture and prayer. The business session was conducted by Mrs. F. A. Hand, the president. The reading credits, earned by members for reading the Bible and other religious articles, was counted. Compar able weight and quality heifers sold mostly $17.00 to $18.50 with these kinds fully $0.50 cwt. higher than a week ago. Good kinds of heifers $15.00 to $16.75 cwt. Not enough cows with calves to test the market. Prices continued to slacken off in the cow trade with most classes fully $0.50 cwt. lower than a week ago. He has been hospitalized since June 20. DELOIT—Duane Filsinger, who is attending Wayne State college, has been having mumps. . . La Vern Spahn, 2-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Spahn, was hospitalized a few days last week in Neligh. The doctors reported he was suffering with a light case of polio. CHAMBERS—Mrs. James Platt returned Wednesday, June 22, from Lincoln. She had undergone major surgery at St. Elizabeth’s hospital on June 9 and after leav ing the hospital had stayed for several days with relatives in Lincoln. STUART — Raymond MeUsch entered the Atkinson Memorial hospital Friday and submitted to an appendectomy Saturday morn ing. . . Mr. and Mrs. Don Engler went to Grand Island Monday where Mr. Engler had a checkup at St. Francis hospital. His knee shows improvement. ROCK FALLS—Linda Johnson visited at the Lloyd Gallagher home on Monday evening. Pat Gallagher was injured recently to the extent of skins and bruises here and there when her ankle turned as she was going down the steps from the doorway. Sixteen members answered roll call. Com mander Stanley Lambert presid ed. Plans for the coming July 4 celebration were discussed. The celebration will be held at the fair grounds. The Commercial club, firemen and Legion are co operating in this “old - time” Fourth celebration. There are ample picnic facilities. Kids will entertain with foot races and other juvenile sports. There will be a donkey barrel race and a donkey baseball game between the East and West. In the evening there will be a movie at the theater at 7, fire works display at 9, and dancing at 10.
