Sick & Injured
EWING— Mrs. Cora Canaday,
Mrs. Hazel Kimes and son, Dal,
were taken to Omaha by Clifford
Hahlbeck on Wednesday, June 8.
Mrs. Canaday entered the Uni
versity hospital for treatment of
eye trouble. Dal had a check-up
and new casts on his feet. He
and his mother returned home the
same day. . . Deemer Conner is
convalescing from a recent op
eration. . . Joe Kaczor went to
Norfolk last Thursday where he
had his tonsils removed. . . Mrs.
Maud Boies is showing some im
provement from her recent illness
and is able to be in her own home
now. . . Mrs. Pauline Noffke went
to Omaha Sunday where she wifi
have a physical checkup. Her
health is “much improved.”
O’NEILL— Dr. H. L. Bennett
suffered a heart attack shortly af
ter noon on Saturday and was
taken to St. Anthony’s hospital.
His condition is “improved.” . .
Mrs. Ray Bettenhausen recently
scalded her right leg below the
knee in a household accident. . .
Mrs. F. J. Biglin became ill Mon
da afternoon and was taken to St.
Anthony’s hospital. . . Frank O’
Donnell of Dallas, Tex., who has
been ill several months, last week
was flown to Omaha and brought
to O’Neill where he entered St.
Anthony’s hospital. . . H. J. Ham
mond is “seriously ill” in St. An
thony’s hospital. He has been
hospitalized several times in re
cent years.
LYNCH—Leon Malcolm, 8, son
of Mr. and Mrs. DeLoss Malcolm,
received a deep gash on his face
Sunday when he was using a corn
knife. He was brought to Lynch to
the doctor and several stiches
were taken. . . Lemon Huber un
derwent surgery at the Picks
town, S.D., hospital and is now
recuperating at his home here. . .
C. A. Rutledge was brought to
the Sacred Heart hospital Tues
day, June 7, after being in Omaha
taking treatments for 10 days.
ATKINSON—Mrs. D. F. Scott
went to Omaha Tuesday evening,
June 7, to visit her daughter, Mrs.
Gene Livingston, who entered
Clarkson hospital that morning,
Mrs. Scott came home Friday
morning. Mr. and Mrs. Gene Liv
ingston came home Friday eve
ning. . . Mrs. Stanley Johnson,
who has been in Methodist hos
pital, Sioux City, several weeks,
returned home Monday, June 6.
AMELIA—Mrs. Bertha Sam
mons, who recently suffered a
fractured hip and was taken to
O’Neill by ambulance and later
removed to a Sioux City hospital.

visited Floyd’s sister, Mrs. Tom
Murray, who has been ill and in
the hospital when they went to
O’Neill Sunday to take their son,
Don, to meet the bus to return to
school at Seward.
STUART— Mr. and Mrs. Don
Engler and children came Sunday
evening for an extended visit
with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. B.
C. Engler. Mr. Engler underwent
surgery recently in St. Francis
hospital at Grand Island to have
his kneecap removed. He was dis
missed Monday, June 6. He will
have to wear a cast six weeks.
CHAMBERS—Mrs. James Platt
entered St. Elizabeth’s hospital in
Lincoln last Thursday where she
submitted to surgery on Friday.
She suffers a back ailment. .. Du
ane Carson left Sunday, June 5,
for Rochester, Minn., for medical
care. . . Charley Brown is on the
sick list. He is being cared for at
the home of his sister, Mrs. Mary
Neimand.
PAGE — Mr. and Mrs. Gene
Mudloff went to Norfolk last
Thursday where Mrs. Mudloff
went for treatment for an ear in
fection.

Mrs. Gertie Adair accompanied
her daughter, Joan, to her home
in Lincoln on Sunday. She re
turned home Tuesday.
Mrs. Stella Sparks and Lonnie
and Billie Hansen attended the
rodeo in O’Neill Sunday.
Mrs. William Bowker enter
tained 14 guests for her daughter,
Beth, in honor of her eighth birth
day anniversary on Tuesday, June
7.

anti-aircraft artillery battalion at
Camp Lucas, Mich.
Private Varilek, a rifleman in
the battalion’s headquarters bat
tery, entered the army last Jan
uary and completed basic training
at Ft. Ord, Calif.
Before entering the army, he
was a farmer.

Lynch and Miss Lenore Sandfast
of Humboldt were married at
Humboldt Thursday, June 2. The
ceremony was performed by Rev.
Richard Monroe of Knoxville,
Tenn.
Carl is the son of Mr. and Mrs.
Fred Spencer and was graduated
from the Lyn<h school.

June 7, after spending the past
three weeks here visiting rela
tives and looking after business

of Mrs. Juracek’s parents, Mr.
and Mrs. Ray Siders and Marilyn.

home Saturday evening from
Chanute air force base in Illinois
and will spend a 21 -day leave
with his parents, Mr. and Mrs.
Ken Coventry, Dick and Bob.
Ronnie will report to the air force
base at Seattle, Wash., for further
training.
Mr. and Mrs. James R. Coven
try drove to Lynch on Monday,
taking Mrs. Coventry’s mother to
the hospital there for medical
treatment. They also called on
their sister-in-law, Mrs. Glen
Tomlinson, a patient at Sacred
heart hospital.

spent from Thursday through Sa
turday visiting in the M. L. Har
