Dan DeBacker Home From Navy— Daniel DeBacker, son of Mr. and Mrs. G. C. DeBacker, arrived home Friday after having re ceived his discharge from the pavy. Dan served four years and went across to the Far East four times. His wife, the former Donna Davis, gave birth to a daughter last week. 'Miss Birmingham Back from Far East— Miss Mary Louise (“Lu”) Birmingham, daughter of the Hugh J. Birminghams, arrived home Wednesday. Miss Birming ham, an Amercian Red cross worker, served in the Far East for 18 months. Mrs. W. J. Franta and her daughter, Mrs. James Godfrey, Jimmy and Betsy of San Jose, Calif., visited over the weekend at the home of Mrs. Franta’s daughter-in-law, Mrs. Henry F. Spells Word Correctly During Competition— In The Frontier’s report on the recent Holt county rural school spelling contest, it was stated Bonnie Clifford, third grader, triumphed with the word “neigh bor’s”. In a tape-recorded interview, Little Bonnie made the word possessive by adding an apos trophe. Sick & Injured INMAN—Mr. and Mrs. Otto Retke returned from Omaha on Sunday evening where Mr. Retke spent the past week in an Omaha hospital receiving medical treat ment. They also visited their son, Bob, also a patient in an Omaha hospital. They report he is “slow ]y improving”. . . Mr. and Mrs. George Laney, who have spent the past six months in Genoa at the Genoa haven rest home, re turned to their home here on Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Joseph La ney, their son and daughter-in law of O’Neill, drove to Genoa and brought them home. EMMETT—Jerrold Dusatko was taken to Sioux City on Monday, April 25 where he entered the St. Joseph’s hospital. Mr. Dusatko is “much improved”. Mrs. Dusat ko, Mrs. Henry Benze and Leon ard Dusatko drove to Sioux City on Friday to visit Jerrold. . . The Fritz Brockman family on Sun day visited Mrs. Maude Goo’s, who is a patient in the hospital at Burwell. . . Pat Cole, small son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Cole has been ill with infected ears. CLEARWATER—William Sch lecht, Clearwater school custo dian, was reported in good condi tion at Tilden Community hos pital Friday morning where he is receiving treatment for a stroke. Mr. Schlecht suffered the stroke Thursday noon at the home of his brother, Henry Schlecht, in Clear water. EMMET—Mrs. William Grothe, sr., is in bed with an attack of pneumonia. CHAMBERS — Walt Richards was taken to St. Anthony’s hos pital Saturday for medical care . . .Mrs. J. A. O. Woods is a patient in St. Anthony’s hospital . . .Lyman Robertson returned Friday from the Tilden hospital where he had been a surgical patient. VENUS—Mrs. Clarence Faul haver of the Venus neighborhood underwent surgery, Monday at St. Anthony’s hospital, O’Neill. Mrs. Faulhaver was the former Evelyn Auten and was reared at Page. STAR—Mr. and Mrs. Ewalt Miller received word from their son, Arnold, stating that he is out of the hospital and is back with his company again. He was hos pitalized for three weeks. RIVERSIDE—Dal Kimes, son of Mrs. Hazel Kimes, was to un dergo sugery on his feet, Wednes day in the Childrens Memorial hospital, Omaha. Dal was strick en with polio when 17-months-old and has undergone several opera tions since. His 14th birthday is Friday, May 6. , . Neil Jensen of Newman Grove, formerly of Ew ing, received a broken leg Sun day, April 25, when he jumped on hard ground. STUART—Mrs. John Strode fell from a ladder last Thursday and fractured her ankel. She was taken to Atkinson Memorial hos pital and later was removed to Methodist hospital in Omaha. O’NEILL—Miss Ruth Hamish received a badly smashed thumb on Tuesday when a car door was shut on it. She was bidding goodby to her sister, who h*ut been visiting here. EWING—Mr. and Mrs. Earl Billings, acompanied by her mother, Mrs. Myrtle Kimes, of Clearwater were Neligh visitors on Friday. Mrs. Kimes had a physical checkup.
