Center Union Affair Attracts Homecomers Among those from a distance attending the Center Union church, golden jubilee celebrat ion during the weekend were: Mr. and Mrs. Ed Orindorff of Twin Falls, Ida. (Mrs. Orindorff is the former Nellie Dillon); Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Bendke of Bradshaw; Mr. and Mrs. John Bellar of Beemer; James Bellar of Omaha; Ralph Bellar of Oma ha; Mr. and Mrs. Will Shoemaker of Stanton, also their three daughters and one grandson. Rev. and Mrs. Earl Dix and Richard of Butte; Mr. and Mrs. George Hollingshead of Long Pine; Mr. and Mrs. Glen Haw thorne and family of McCook; Rev. and Mrs. A. W. Marts of Long Pine; John Stauffer of Meadow Grove; Mr. and Mrs. Earl Homack and family of Spencer; Rev. and Mrs. M. H. Groesnbach and daughter of Gordon; Rev. and G. M. Hubby of Rudd, la. The Hubbys and Reverend Grosenbach are former pastors of the church. Mrs. Homer Ernst, who direc ted arrangements for the com bonation jubilee - homecoming, made a replica of the church in the form of a cake. The model includes such details as Venetian blinds and electric light meter. Largest crowd at a single ser vice was on Sunday afternoon when 125 persons jammed the small auditorium in the church. There was a service Saturday evening; three on Sunday morn ing, afternoon and evening. Rei mer and Elayne. Friday the Holt county eighth graders took their exams in O’ Neill, then on Monday the Wheeler county eighth graders took exams at Bartlett. Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Paul and Larry spent Sunday evening at the Stanley Bartak home. Mr. and Mrs. Ewald Spahn and Doris Ann went to Omaha on Friday. Don Spahn returned home with them, he has been in service in Austria. Bud Bartaks are remodeling j their farm home. Mr. Loeske and son and Bill Tagel are helping with the foundation. Billy Day visited Richard Days’ on Monday. Mr. and Mrs. S. M. Huffman were dinner guests Wednesday evening at the Paul Dwyer home. Mr. and Mrs. A. E. Bartak were guests Monday evening at the Frank Kruntorad’s. Rev. and Mrs. Bomer and fam illy called at the A. E. Bartak home Friday afternoon. The wind is still blowing and still no moisture. Over 110 attended the singspir ation at the Christian church in Clearwater Friday evening. Guests were from Wayne, Albion, Norfolk and other towns in the Elkhorn valley. James Squire was a business visitor in Ewing on Saturday. Mrs. H. Reimer and Elayne at tended the singspiration in Clear water on Friday evening. Vera Dell Funk accompanied the St. Mary’s seniors on their sneak to Chicago recently. Mrs. Zoe Huffman of Elgin is visiting her daughter, Mrs. Hen ney and family in Omaha. Leonard McDonald of Omaha spent the weekend at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles McDonald. Mrs. Hazel Kimes and son returned to Omaha with him Sunday evening ° Sunday, April 24 Florence Butler and Anna Van Zandt of Ewing were dinner guests at the R. M. Tomjack home in honor of Mrs. Butler’s birthday anniver sary. Mr. and Mrs. Earl Rossow held open house at their home Sunday, May 1, in honor of their 25th wedding anniversary. The Clearwater Creek club cleaned and redecorated the Clearwater rest rooms on Thurs day, April 28. Mr. and Mrs. R. M. Tomjack were supper guests Thursday evening at the Henry Reimer home. Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Tomjack went to Mission, S.D., on Sunday where they visited relatives and went fishing. Lynch News Mr. and Mrs. Tom Bowers have left for Omaha where Mr. Bowers will look after business and Mrs. Bowers will attend the district rural homemakers’ recognition banquet Thursday as Boyd coun ty’s chairman of the home exten sion clubs. Rev. Laurence Kratz, field missionary of the St. Augustine Indian Mission of Winnebago, spent Sunday in Lynch. He preached at the Catholic church about the missionary work there. Keith Stewart returned to his base in California after a fur lough with his parents and friends here. Mr. and Mrs. Merle Zimmer man of Crofton spent Sunday at the parental Andrew S e d i v y home. Mrs. Allan Koskan and child ren of Butte were Sunday, April 24, visitors at Wallace Courtney home. Mr. and Mrs. Dale Barta of Verdigre were Sunday dinner guests at the Albert Kalkowski home. Mr. and Mrs. Ed Johns visited Sunday at Phillip Hammon’s, north of Bristow. « Mr. and Mrs. Eldon Sedivy and family of O’Neill were Lynch visitors Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. George Sedlacek of Spencer and son, Gary, of the Great Lakes training center visited with Mrs. Lettie Sedlacek Sunday, April 24. Ernest Vomacka and a friend of Gregory, S.D., were Sunday visitors at the Martin Jehorek home west of town. Rev. Charles Kamber departed for Omaha Saturday and will be gone for two weeks. Mrs. Lena Johnson of Lincoln is visiting at the C. W. Christen sen home. Mr. and Mrs. Ben Nelson are in Denver, Colo., this week. Dr. J. A. Guttery returned home from a week’s visit in Omaha and Pilger. The minstrel show presented by the junior business men and women proved to be a “grand success”. Requests were made for a thir perfoqnance. Both per formances entertained a full house. Rev. Su Takes Part in Mission Parleys O’Neill Church Site of Meet Tonight STUART—Rev. D. D. Su, pas tor of the Community church here, departed Tuesday to take part in a series of information in stitutes in the Presbyterian synod of Nebraska. Rev. Su is representing the board of foreign missions and the synod and is teamed with Dr. Barney N. Morgan as a represen tative from the board of national missions. Rev. Su, born in China of Bud dhist parents, became a Christian through a Presbyterian mission school. This team will hold one of their meetings in O’Neill tonight (Thursday) at 7:30 in the First Presbyterian church. Other meeting places are Bridgeport, Valentine, Grand Is land, St. Paul, Norfolk, Omaha, Lincoln and Fairbury. — Riverside News Billie and Kathy Lofquest, Joanie Miller and Jackie Fry re ceived Salk polio shots at Neligh Wednesday, April 27. Riverside school picnic will be held Friday, May 13. All friends are invited. Jeanne Welke has been contracted to teach the Riverside school next term. Mr. and Mrs. Willie Shrader and family and Mr. and Mrs. Lee Fink and sons were Sunday din ner guests of the Archie John stons. ‘Makeup Date’ Set for Polio Shots Those 111 to Receive Inoculations A “makeup date" has been set for Tuesday, May 10, for those first and second grade pupils who missed the first round of the Salk vaccine polio shots, which were administered in O'Neill and At kinson last week. Pupils who were ill or for some other reason failed to appear for the initial inoculations may re port for “makeup shots” at O' Neill at 9 a.m., on Tuesday, May 10. The “makeup” date for At kinson will be announced. A total of 619 first and second graders were administered inocu lations here—395 at O’Neill, 224 at Atkinson. Dates for the second round fol low: Atkinson—Thursday, May 26, 1 p.m.; O’Neill—Friday, May 27, 9 a.m. Detailed schedules will be told later. “There were tears from only four at the shot center here,” ex plained one of the clerks. One O’ Neill boy looked at the needle and scooted for home. Later, he returned with his mother and went through the “operation” without batting an. eye.
