O’Neill Legion lounge on Thursday

were dinner guests of Mr and
Mrs. Floyd Ritts on Friday.
Mrs. Joe Winkler was a guest of

Mr. and Mrs. Don Meyers and
family visited at the Lew Meyers
home at Lynch on last Thursday
evening.
Miss Mary belle O’Connor, RN,
of St. Catherine’s hospital, Omaha,
came home on Sunday morning to
visit her parents, Mr. and Mrs.
Jim O’Connor, and her uncle, Tom
Perkins. She went back to Omaha
late Monday night;
Miss Mary Lou Conard, of
Wayne State Teachers’ college,
came home over the weekend to
visit her parents, Mr. and Mrs.
John Conard.
Mr. and Mrs. Frank Schaaf and
baby daughter and Mrs. Arthur
Humpal, all of Atkinson, visited
Mr. and Mrs. Bob Cole and sons
on Wednesday evening, Febr. 16.
The ladies of the Alter Society
of the Epiphany church held a
meeting on Tuesday afternoon.

The Vernon Hoxsie family were
guests at the Gilber Fox home

district 20 was unable to reach the
school Monday forenoon on ac
count of badly drifted roads.

are from Norwalk, Calif.
A card party is to be held at
St. Michael’s hall of the Church
of the Epiphany at Emmet Sun

Mrs. Henry Hesse, who are mov
ing into the home that was vacat
ed by the William Parks family at
Orchard. The E. E. Cleveland
family made that house available
over the weekend.

land, Friday evening, where they
will spend some time in the home
of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Con

Pvt. Carl Goldfuss, Page, and
Pvt. Elmer Schwager, Chambers,
went to Storm Lake, la., Wednes
day, where they visited the latter’s
brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and
Mrs. H. Thompson, returning to
their homes Thursday evening.
The GGG&G card club were
guests of Mrs. Alta Finch Friday
afternoon. Mrs. Anton Nissen held
the high score, Mrs. Arnold Stew
art, low score, and Mrs. Clarence
Dobbins received the traveling
award. The hostess served lunch.
Mrs. C. P. Leach will be the
March 4 hostess.
The RNA family supper was
held at the lodge hall. Routine
business was taken care of and
Mrs. Alton Braddock and Mrs.
Herbert Steinberg served lunch to
sixteen members.
“Swords Into Pruning Hooks,”
was the topic of the lesson, led by
Mrs. Cordes Walker, assisted by
Mrs. Lisle Mewmaw and Mrs.
Harold Heiss, at the regular meet
ing of the WSCS at the Methodist
church parlors, last Thursday.
Plans were discussed concerning
the annual WSCS meeting at Hast
ings March 1-2. The nominating
committee with Mrs. H. S. Harper,
Chairman, was approved. Mrs.
Merwyn French and Mrs. Lou
Heiss served lunch.

Newlyweds Go to Mardi Gras
Mr. and Mrs. Charles Fox, jr. (above), were married Wednes
day, February 16, at St. Patrick’s Catholic church in O’Neill. Upon
their return from New Orleans, La., where they participated in the
Mardi Gras festivities, the couple will make their home in O’Neill.
Mrs. Fox is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Mullen of Emmet.
He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Fox, sr., of O’Neill and Nor
walk, Calif.—O’Neill Photo Co.

ruary 13. Miss Jo Ann Braddock
was one of the members of the

Mr. and Mrs. William Ragland
and family were Sunday guests
of Mr. and Mrs. Merwyn French,
sr., and Miss Bette.
Merwyn French, jr., went to
Oakland and Omaha Monday. His
wife is staying with her parents,
Mr. and Mrs. Orville Olson, at
Oakland for the present.
The men who operate the road
maintenance machinery were on
the job early and late once the
drifting stopped. Most of the main
roads were opened in time for
school and mail.

Mr. and Mrs. John Honeywell,
Mrs. Charlotte Honeywell and her
guest, Mrs. Eva McCloud of Min
nesota received a message Satur
day, February 12, of the sudden
death from heart attack of the
latter’s son. They all departed on
Sunday, February 13 for Minne
sota, returning Sunday, February
20.
Joe Dowling of Iowa was an
overnight guest in -the Wayne
Rowse home on Thursday, Feb
ruary 17. Mr. Dowling and Mr.
Rowse were buddies in an air
plane factory in New York during
the war and was enroute to Cal
gary, Can., where he had employ
ment.
Mr. and Mrs. Earl David moved
Thursday, February 17, to Neligh.
Mr. and Mrs. Paul Doud spent
Sunday evening in the Ernest
Thorin home.
Mr. and Mrs. Duane K. Miller
were Sunday dinner guests of Mr.
and Mrs. Lloyd Wintermote and
Norma Rae.
Mr. and Mrs. William Russ left
Monday for their home at Fern
dale, Wosh., after visiting rela
tives and friends here at Butte
for about 10 days. They were call
ed here by the death of his brother
at Norfolk.
There were no church services
held at the St. Paxil’s Lutheran
or Methodist churches in Cham
bers Sunday because of the weath
er conditions. Memorial Baptist
held services with about 30 pre
sent.
No sciiool was neld in Valley
Center school 107 Monday, where
Mrs. Kenneth Adams is teacher,
due to closed roads.
Clarence Grimes, living three
miles west and three miles north
of Chambers, cleared the road
from his place to the highway
early Monday, also cleared the
driveways. There was not much
snow on the roads running north
and south.
Mrs. John Butler
Dies in California
CHAMBERS—Mrs. John But
ler of Long Beach, Calif., died at
her home Sunday, February 20,
following a long illness.
She was the daughter of Mrs.
Alma Farrier of Chambers and
sister of Hylas Farrier, Ernest
Farrier and Mrs. Alvin Tangeman,
all of Chambers.
