Ewing News Mr. and Mrs. R. H. Shain and son, Richard, his sister, Mrs. Fred Lanthere of California, and Mrs. Harriet Welke went to Oakdale on Sunday where they attended a re union of the Springer family, honor ing Mrs. Lanthere. A picnic dinner was enjoyed at 1 o’clock. The after noon was spent informally. Jepthah chapter 35, Order of the Eastern Star, held a regular meet ing Tuesday evening, October 12, when initiation work was exem plified with Mrs. Henry Fleming, worthy matron, and Mrs. William Spence, worthy patron, in charge. •On adjournment of the session, a social hour and refreshments, served by Mrs. Waldo Davis and Mrs. Harriet Welke, was enjoyed. Mrs. Dora Townsend of Page was the out-of-town member in atten dance. Guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ray Butler were his nephew, Shirley Jacoby and wife. Terry and Patty Lofquest were guests at the home of their grand mother, Mrs. Edna Lofquest, on Thursday while their mother, Mrs. William Lofquest shopped in O’Neill. Mr. and Mrs. Wesley Cook and family were guests on Tuesday, October 12, at the home of Mrs. Edna Lofquest. Dick Edwards, Everett Ruby, Clifford Hahlbeck and Coach Dick Lane were among those from Ewing who attended the Bassett Valentine football game at Bassett on Thursday evening. Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Tomjack moved Wednesday, October 13, to the H. R. Porter residence which they have purchased. Considerable remodeling has been done as well as redecorating. Leo Spittler and his father-in-law, John Ahrens of Omaha, are guests of Mr. Spittler’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lee Spittler and other rela tives in Ewing over the weekend. Mrs. Charles Grim of Venus is a guest at the home of her son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Grim. Mr. and Mrs. Ben Batterman of Otis, Colo., visited Mrs. Guy Wright several days recently and other relatives in the Ewing vicin ity and at Norfolk. Mr. and Mrs. Harold Harris and daughter, Bertha, and Mrs. H. C. Shaffer of Onawa, la., were 6 o’clock dinner and evening guests on Sunday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ray Butler. Mrs. Eva Kaczor entertained the following guests at her home on Sunday: Mr. and Mrs. Joe Nick olite, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Morgan of O’Neill, Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Chmiel and Mike and George Nickolite of Ewing. Dr. and Mrs. Wilfred I. King of Long Island, N. Y., were recent visitors at the home of his sister and brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Eacker, and other relatives in the Ewing community. Miss Joellyn Eacker, a sophmore of the University of Nebraska, has been chosen as a member of the University singers to perform the I opera “The Consul.” Miss Eackei ! is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs Ralph Eaeker. Guests at the home of Mr. anc Mrs. Vearl Tuttle on Sunday were Mr. and Mrs. Joe Sinkule, Mr. anc Mrs. Victor Casper and daughtei of Omaha; Mr. and Mrs. Johr Honeywell of Chambers; Mr. anc Mrs. Elvin Rubeck and daughtei of O’Neill; Mr. and Mrs. Ed Urban, Mr. and Mrs. Victor Bollwitt and family of Ewing. Mrs. Joe Sinkule of Omaha visited at the home of Mrs. Han nah Tuttle and Mr. and Mrs. Ed Urban and other relatives in the Ewing community last week. Mr. and Mrs. Ed Urban returned home recently from a trip which took them through Kansas*, Arkan sas, Missouri and Iowa. They also visited relatives in Omaha. Mr. and Mrs. Leland Welke and family, accompanied by her father, R. H. Jefferies, spent Sunday with her sister, Mrs. Jay Hixson, and family at Long Pine. Mr. Jefferies remained for a longer visit. Mr. and Mrs. J. L. Vandenberg of Boulder, Colo., were guests at the home of their neice, Mrs. Lyle Dierks, and family last week. Merton Dierks attended the Oregon State-Nebraska football game at Lincoln Saturday and re mained overnight with friends. “Cappy”, as he is known by his friends, will leave October 29 for service in the air force at Smoky Hill base, Salina, Kans., upon his graduation from the University of Nebraska in 1954, he recieved the rating of second lieutenant. Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Gragert and family of Elgin were weekend guests at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Rotherham. Mrs. Richard Edwards and child ren, who have been visiting rela tives at Harlan and Irwin, la., returned home Sunday. She was accompanied by her aunt, Mrs. Harold Jacobsen of Harlan, and her daughter, Mrs. Merwin Brown and son, Gaige, of Council Bluffs, la., who were guests at their home until Wednesday, October 20. They all spent Monday afternoon at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Merle Shilousky at Orchard. On Tuesday they were guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Arnie Tuttle at Neligh. The Young Matrons Pinochle club was entertained Tuesday evening, October 12, at the home of Mrs. James Boies with Mrs Ray Funk as cohostess. Mrs. Hazel Kimes was a guest. Score winners were Mrs. Richard Edwards, Mrs. Kermit Jefferies and Mrs. Thomas Eaeker. A social hour and refresh on e n t s were enjoyed after the game. Guests at the Ray Sedivy home over the weekend were Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Saane and sons of Mason City. Jim Tinsley of Ewing, Alvin Tin sley and Roy Vandersnick of Clear water, Charlie Bennett, and Bill Sannee of Neligh all spent Friday and Saturday at Merriman hunting ducks. Mr. and Mrs. David Huston and son, Steve, of Hutchinson, Kans., are spending this week visiting with Jim Tinsley. Mrs. Helen Hut son of Gordon also was a guest the first of the week.
