CAROL ANN PETER 24p50 Negro Soprano in Concert at Chambers CHAMBERS— The Chambers Methodist church was filled near ly to capacity on Sunday evening, October 10, by music lovers who gathered to hear Miss Wilma Fletcher, noted Negro soprano and songwriter. Miss Fletcher, who has present ed concerts in hundreds of Nebras ka towns and has appeared on both radio and television, sang sacred and secular songs as well as Negro spirituals, several of which she had written. She was accompanied by Rev. Gertrude McCallum of Bladen and the pi anist, Miss McGee of Edgar. Miss Fletcher’s home is at Galesburg, 111. Other Chambers News Attending the fall seminar held at the Methodist church in Atkin son on Tuesday, October *>, were Mrs. J. M. Hodgkin, Mrs. Joe Daas, Mrs. Raymond Beed, Mrs. John Kellar, Mrs. C. Mr. and Mrs. Bill Lofquest and children accompanied Mr. and Mrs. Bill 'Hobbs, jr., to Yankton, S.D., Sunday. They visited the Gavins Point dam and crossed the Missouri river by ferry at Nio brara enroute home. I— -— ~ Pinch - Hits for Brother in Rural School at Chadron CHAMBERS— Mrs. Clifford Potter returned recently from Chadron where she was called because of the illness of her sob. Ralph. Ralph and his sister, Vesta, are teaching in a two-room rur al school near Chadron. During Ralph’s illness, Vesta took over the entire teaching job. Her brother is “improving" and is expected to be back to work soon. Mrs. McMahan Named President of Auxiliary_' St. Anthony’s hospital auxil iary met Monday evening at the hospital in regular session. An election of officers was held with the results as follows: Mr*. James McMahan of Inman, pres ident; Mrs. Andrew Ramold of O’Neill, vicepresident; Mrs. Ver non Lorenz of O’Neill, secretary; Mrs. John Shoemaker of O’Neill, treasurer, and Mrs. Robert Lang don of O’Neill, publicity chair man. Miss Bernadette Brennan is the retiring president. Business meetings are held on the second Monday each month. All women in the O’Neill vicinity are welcome to attend.
