Delinquent Tax List

Notice is hereby given that on
the first Monday in November,
1954, being November 1st, there
will be a public auction of all
lands and town lots in Holt
County, Nebr., on which taxes
are delinquent for the year 1953
or any prior years. That at said
sale so much of the tracts of land
or town lots will be sold as be
necessary to pay all delinquent
taxes, interest and costs thereon
at date of sale. That said sale
shall continue from day to day
until all property has been offer
ed.
Following is a list of all tracts
of JanH and town lots on which
taxes are delinquent for one year
The amount of the 1953 delin
quent tax follows each descrip
tion, but does not include interest
or advertising charges.

Missionary Coming
Herbert L. Griffin (above),
missionary to the Belgian Con
go, Africa, for more than 21
years, will be guest speaker at
the Assembly of God church, on
Sunday, October 17. Reverend
Griffin will relate some of his
experiences and will tell of the
progress of Assemblies of God
missions in the Congo. He will
show slides of the field. It was
in 1931, Reverend Griffin first
went to Africa and, with the
I exception of furlough periods,
since has been located there.
At the conclusion of his fur
lough period he plans to return
to the Congo. The public is
invited to hear Reverend Grif
fin at 8 p.m.

Lt. Berigan Meet—
Miss Mary Louise Birmingham,
American Red Cross worker in
the Far East, telephoned her par
ents, Mr. and Mrs. 'H. J. Birm
ingham, Sunday from Hong Kong,
where she is on leave.
She also spoke to her • grand
parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles E.
Stout, and to her cousin, Mrs. J.
Robert Berigan.
Miss Birmingham reported to
her relatives she and Lieutenant
Berigan had met in Tokyo several
times. Lieutenant Berigan landed
in Japan a fortnight ago for Far
East duty with the air force. He
is a communications officer.
Upon her return to Korea, she
expects to be stationed with a j
hospital unit.
Mrs. Birmingham said the con
1 nection was “excellent.” The call
was completed at 7 p.m., Sunday
and in Hong Kong it was 9 a.m., I
Monday. The telephone company
gave 30 minutes’ notice a trans
oceanic call was forthcoming.
Honors Daughter—
Mrs. Ray Lawrence honored her
daughter, Virginia, in a birthday
anniversary party at her home
Saturday. Indoor games were play
ed and refreshments were served.

The Ewing School band went to
Norfolk on Wednesday afternoon,
| October 6, to attend the concert by
the marine band. The 14 members
were accompanied by Supt. L. M.
Carter.
The Thursday Bridge slub was
entertained Tuesday, October 5, at
the home of Mrs. Perry Saiser.
Miss Francis Rotherham a guest
held high score and Mrs. Earl Bil
lings, second high. Mrs. Lyle
Dierks will be hostess for the next
meeting on Thursday evening, Oc
tober 14, the club will hold a 6
o’clock dinner at O’Neill.
Mrs. Myrtle Kimes, who is a
guest at the home of her daughter,

ing a few days at the home of Mrs.
Edna Lofquest in Ewing.

ner with her aunt, Mrs. Lillie
Myers, at Clearwater on Friday.

aunts, Mrs. Myrtle Kimes and Mrs.
Carrie Bernhardt.
The forum group of the United
Presbyterian church met Thursday
evening. Mr. and Mrs. Wendell
Switzer had charge of the devotion
als and presented the lesson on
“Our Children’s Friends and Their
Influence”. Rev. W. J. Bomer
presided. Topics discussed were
a party for Halloween and a fence
for the Presbyterian cemetery.
Miss Ina Bennett was the hostess
with Mrs. William Bomer as the
assisting hostess. Lunch was served
to the 14 members and the 10 child
ren in attendance.
Merton Dierks took his grand
father, M. H. Dierks to Ogallala on
Thursday where he will be a guest
at the home of his daughter, Mrs.
Walter Tressler, and family for the
next month. Merton returned home
Thursday.
Mrs. Anna Stillson of Lewistown,
Mont., was an overnight guest on
Friday at the home of Mr. and Mrs.
Emmet Wright.

nard Hales held Friday at Bruns
wick in the Congregational church.
Burial was made in the Tilden
cemetery.

and they spent the weekend with
relatives at Ewing.

reside at Omaha. They visited at
the farm home of Mr. and Mrs.
Thomas Kaczor and family over the
weekend.

Loys Depart for
West Coast—
Mr. and Mrs. D. N. Loy departed
Wednesday for Seattle, Wash., and
expect to spend about three months
with relatives in the West. Enroute
they will stop at Salt Lake City,
Utah, The Dells and Eugene. Ore. *
Later they will visit California
points, and possibly in Arizona
Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Kennedy of
Ainsworth took the Loys to Grand
Island from where the O’Neill
couple left by train.
Saturday the Loys went to Nor
folk where they attended the 60th
wedding anniversary celebration
of Mr. and Mrs. W. B. Lamm. One
hundred thirty-one persons were
served dinner in Ta-ha-zooka park.
Mr. Loy and Mrs. Lamm are bro
ther and sister. Mr. Lamm is a
veteran member of the Norfolk
police department. The Loys’
daughter, Mrs. Ray Lawrence of
, O’Neill, also attended the celebra
tion.
ATTEND KIN’S FUNERAL
EWING—Mr. and Mrs. Kermit
Jefferies attended the funeral of
| of Mrs. Jefferie’s brother-in-law,
Francis Rachwitz of Omaha, which
was held Friday, September 29, at
St. John’s church. Mr. Rachwitz
had been in poor health the past
year. He is survived by his wife.
Vlasta Krachie Rachwitz, and three
sons.
