Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Coven try and Bob left Friday for Den ver, Colo., to spend the labor day weekend with their brothers-in law and sisters, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Colman and Mr. and Mrs. Francis Dempsey, and families. Mr. and Mrs. James M. Mc Mahan left Friday for Lyons where they spent the labor day weekend visiting relatives. Mr and Mrs. F. E. Keyes of Valentine came Monday to visit their son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Hansen, and family. Mr. and Mrs. Howard Jackson entertained at a surprise party at their home Saturday evening, August 28, in honor of their son, Douglas, who was celebrating his 18th birthday anniversary. There were 20 guests present. The par ty also honored Douglas and Yvonne Smith before they de parted for college. Douglas will attend Chadron State Teachers college and Yvonne will attend Norfolk Junior college. rhe WSCS met on Thursday, I August 26, at the Maxcy Memori al addition for a regular semi monthly session. Members having birthday anniversaries during June, July and August were hon ored. Mrs. Gerald Nelsen and Mrs. Harry Snyder joined the society. Mrs. Herbert Rouse and Miss Elsie Krueger were host esses. Mr. and Mrs. David Morsbach and girls spent Sunday in Neligh where they attended a reunion of the Brittell family at the Neligh park. Mr. and Mrs. Merlin Luben and family of Oak spent the weekend in the Charles Luben and Mrs. May Fraka homes. Miss Yvonne Smith, who at tends Norfolk Junior college, spent the weekend with her fa ther, K. F. Smith, Beverly and Bert. Mr. and Mrs. Donald Wolfe and family of Amelia spent Sun day in Inman. Ronnie and Jean ette Ann remained in Inman where they will attend high school. Mr. and Mrs. Bill Morsbach and family of Clearwater spent Sunday visiting Mr. Morsbach’s mother, Mrs. Elizabeth Morsbach. Mrs. Ira Watson received word Saturday, August 28, of the death of her mother, Mrs. Anna B. Pierson. Mrs. Pierson had been a patient at the Green Gables hospital in Lincoln for the past five weeks. Mr. and Mrs. Vaden Kivett wera called to Madison Sunday, August 29, by the illness of Mrs. Kivett’s father, Mr. Penwell. They returned home late that evening. Mrs. Helen Sholes and son, Bob, and Mrs. Violet Sholes and Rufus Sholes went to Grand Is land Tuesday, August 31, to meet William Sholes of Buhl, Ida., who came for the funeral of his grand father, Nels Christiansen, which was held Wednesday, September 1, at Ewing. On Sunday Mrs. Helen Sholes and Bill returned to Idaho. Mr. and Mrs. M. M. Crosser and sons of Neligh were Monday callers in the home of Mr. and Mrs. David Morsbach and girls. Pvts. Lawrence Stevens, Law rence Scholz and Harold Nielsen, who are stationed at Ft. Sill., Ok la., spent the weekend in the Bill Butterfield, Alva Scholz and Herbert Nielsen homes. Mr. and Mrs. I. L. Watson re turned Saturday from Lincoln v/here they attended the funeral of Mrs. Watson’s mother, Mrs. Anna B. Pierson, on Wednesday, September 1. Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Johnson of Mead were Wednesday afternoon, August 25, callers in the home of Mr. and Mrs. James Coventry and family. The Johnsons for merly lived here. Mr. and Mrs. G. P. Colman and son, George, left Friady, August 27, for Denver, Colo., to visit their son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Colman, and family. They returned home on Sunday evening, August 29. Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Cates and Mr. and Mrs. Harlan Cates, Sandra and Randy of Lyons were August 28-29 weekend guests in the home of Mr. and Mrs. James M. McMahan. Mr. and Mrs. John H. Mattson were additional din ner guests. Mr. and Mrs. Leon Tompkins left Tuesday, August 31, for Om aha where they will spend three weeks with Dr. C. A. Tompkins and sons while Mrs. Tompkins visits relatives in Washington. Mr. and Mrs. Roy Tjessem and daughters left Saturday for their home in Maywood, 111., after spending several days in the home of Mrs. Tjessem’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. E. E. Clark. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Moore and Mrs. Marye Hartigan drove to Osmond on Sunday, August 29, where they visited Mrs. Etta I Geary at a nursing home. Mrs. I Geary is “very cheerful” in spite I of the fact she cannot see. Mr. and Mrs. Victor Snyder I and family of Atkinson were Sunday evening, August 29, call ers in the homes of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Snyder and Mr. and Mrs. L. F. Kopecky and Dicky. Miss Doris Rumsey of Hot Springs, S.D., and Miss Carol Odden of Hill City, S.D., accom panied Harlan Nielsen, who is employed with a telephone com pany in South Dakota, to Inman Friday night, August 27. Miss Odden visited in the home of Mr. and Mrs. David Morsbach and family on Saturday and Sunday, August 28 and 29. Miss Rumsey was a guest in the Nielsen home. They returned to South Dakota Sunday evening, August 29, ac companied by Miss Delores Niel sen, who was to spend a week of her vacation in Wyoming. Miss Delores Nielsen returned Friday morning, August 27, from Freeport, Tex., where she had been employed. Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Coon and family of Beemer were Saturday, August 28, guests in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Barlow and family. P-TA Outlines 1954- 55 Program The O’Neill Parent - Teachers’ association will meet on Wed nesday, September 15, at 8 o’ clock in the O’Neill public school band room. This first meeting will be a reception for the teach ers. Rev. Wayne Hall will open the session with the invocation and the flag salute. The program will include a clarinet solo by Alta May Lyons, and a skit entitled “School Days” by Linda Gilder sleeve, Donnie Loy, Terry Tom jack, Sandra Thomas, Dianne Gillespie, Ken Peacock, Jean Marie Lohaus and Billy Joe Pruss. Parents of both grade and high i school pupils are urged to attend this meeting because it gives an opportunity for parents and teachers to meet, a spokesman explained. Officers are: William Brewster, president; Dr. H. D. Gildersleeve, vice-president; Mrs. Elroy Lieb, secretary, and Mrs. Reed Herley. treasurer. Mr. and Mrs. Payder and fam ily returned to their home in Oregon on Friday. Mr. Payder was out of work due to a strike, but work was resumed last week. Elizabeth Payder attended school in the Urban district for a few days. Visitors on Tuesday afternoon, August 31, at the Fred Harpster home following the Thiele-Star man wedding were Mrs. Carl Thiele, Mrs. Leo Vanidersnick, Mrs. Pete Rose of Grand Island, Elizabeth Scheuth of Elgin and Frances Thiele. Mr. and Mrs. Mel Lodge and daughters and Mrs. Alice Lodge of Norfolk visited at the Lam bert Bartak home Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Cliff Lodge and family of Petersburg visited the Wayne Paul family. Don Larson and Bonnie Rossow returned to Wayne college this week. Mr. and Mrs. Lambert Bartak recently spent a weekend at Ft. Sill, Okla., visiting their son, Kieth. They also drove into Tex as and report everything looking very dry. Mrs. Carl Thiele was hostess to tne Deloit Pinochle club last Thursday. Mrs. Wayne Paul had high score and Mrs. Harold Werkmeister low. Traveling prize went to Mrs. A. Koenig. A lunch of sandwiches and coffee was served. Mr. and Mrs. Gene Ray and daughter of Omaha spent last week at R. Tomjack’s. Mr. and Mrs. Jewell Tomjack and son of Hastings spent the weekend at home. Mrs. Fred Harpster and Mrs. H.
